I want to open a cat cafe that only has black cats in it (since they struggle so hard to get adopted). It would sell magic supplies and be witch themed. I’d name it “The Familiar Cafe”.

Please tell me each black cat is named after herbs because I’m living for the idea that I can walk in and find Devils Weed and have lit time playing with them while I eat food.

It got better

@orriculum

I’d donate so much to it tbh

Last night I dreamt that I walked into a 1950’s ice cream shop. There was a dull, listless betta in a little bowl on the counter. A beautiful girl who looked like a gay Rachael from Blade Runner was talking to me and trying to get my attention, but I kept glancing back at the betta. My milkshake was melting and the girl stole a sip and left a lipstick smear on the straw, but I was still watching the betta. Eventually I stood up, walked to the counter, grabbed the bowl, and took off running down the street.

I got back to my room and placed the betta in the beautiful aquarium I already had set up, where it instantly perked up and began swimming around.

This seems like something you would do in real life.

I almost did about a year ago, but I was camping in Tennessee at the time. Weirdly, it was also at an ice cream shop.

Weather Folk Magic

  • Cows lay down before a storm. (The tighter their group the worse the storm will be.)
  • Sheep seek higher ground before a storm.
  • Hornets build their nests higher if the winter is going to be harsher.
  • Tough skin on apples and thick corn husks mean very cold winters.
  • A snowy winter means a plentiful harvest the following Autumn.
  • Leaves on trees (maples being one) turn their undersides up before a thunder storm.
  • The number of harsh fogs in August will be equal to harsh storms in winter.

If you want to hear tons more and learn about where some of these folk sayings originated please support and check out the New World Witchery Podcast. It’s free and very informative.

Please no-

I know some people say “stop complaining about Seungbae chapters after we haven’t seen him in such a long time!” and so on, but geez, I wanna go back to theories and plot progression.
There’s plot progression in the sense of Seungbae’s character development which will indeed lead to plot progression, okay, but we had all already predicted something like this and it feels like it’s dragging a little too much to get to the point.
Last chapter felt a bit filler-y and repetetive in some parts, if you ask me.

I’m not saying it didn’t happen at all with Sangwoo and Bum this season, but it gets old even more easily when it’s only one main character (one that doesn’t even feel as much ‘main’ as the other two due to narrative choices) with little interactions with other relevant characters for two solid chapters (I hope not three).
I think chapters 47-48 could have been merged into one slightly longer chapter without much trouble …

Sorry for using your ask as a chance to let this out, I hope you don’t mind! :/

Same

For some reason I can handle a boring chapter with bum or sangwoo or both but not with “only”seungbae 🤨

I don’t mind Seungbae but I can only have so much of him at once. His story is getting interesting I think but I also I guess just overall prefer Sangwoo and Bum chapters.

Hey, sorry to ask, but what’s VHS?

VHS = Video Home System

“The Video Home System is a standard for consumer-level analog video recording on tape cassettes. Developed by Victor Company of Japan in the early 1970s”

The standard media throughout the 80s and 90s until DVDs became mature and available.

I work to resurrect the look of particular VCRs (Video Cassette Recorder) that I grew up with. All VCRs of various brands had particular “looks” to the footage during playback due to the hardware being slightly different. Magnetic tape is a great medium for storage but not a very precise one when applied to imagery.

I love this about analog video – the non uniformity is very pleasing to me. So I work to make my captures and posts feel as different in style as possible given the source material I work with.

“And remember: the sky is the limit! You can be anything you want to be!”

“Thank you. I want to be a secretary.”

That stopped them short. “What?”

“A secretary,” she repeated.

“But…” they trailed off, dumbfounded. “Why? You could be a CEO, a scientist, a law–”

“I don’t want to be a CEO,” she said. “I want to be a secretary.”

They scoffed. “You want to answer phones all day?”

She smiled. “Yes.”

“Schedule appointments?”

“I like organizing.”

“Be a second banana?”

An affirmative nod. “I’m skilled at helping.”

“I just don’t understand,” they said. “HOW could you be okay with all of this?!”

“I enjoy the work.”

“BUT YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE!”

“I know.”

“Then WHY?!”

She shrugged.

“Because I want to be a secretary.”

Honestly though, this is very similar to my mom’s experience. She’s always been super bright, but has realized as she’s gotten older that intellectual pursuits just aren’t her jam. She dropped out of her PhD program to have kids, and although she has her master’s and was a pretty good school psychologist, she hated having to make huge decisions. She’s a church secretary now and loves it, and she’s GOOD at it; she’s letting her school psych certification permanently expire this year with zero regrets. If you can be anything you want, that includes the things we don’t tend to value as highly as a society. Not everybody is built for or wants the “respectable” careers.

My grandma did this to me, saying that i didn’t want to get stuck on the outside, making coffee and filing papers. The thing is, that’s exactly what I’ve always enjoyed the most, making and organizing things. That would be enough for me.

Nobody seems to realize that if you tell people they can be anything they want to be they will. And not everyone WANTS to be doctors or lawyers or CEOs or scientists. Sometimes, they just want to be a secretary.

it took me a LOT of therapy before i was able to shrug off the effects of the Gifted Child Upbringing enough to realize that what i really wanted to be was a house husband and Local Queerdad who writes novels sometimes. god, i’m so much happier now.

ain’t nothing wrong with an ordinary life. don’t let anybody tell you you have to be the top dog to be worth anything.

…oh

“When they tell us we HAVE to be happy that ends up causing anxiety. All that stuff about having to be the number 1… Maybe I want to be a 4? Is there a problem? I’m good as a 4, let all the 1s go ahead and fight each other while I’m happy right here…”

Odin Dupeyrón

Holy shit, this

I hate that we shame jobs that aren’t “"careers”“, that people can’t just be allowed to be content where they are, or to pursue things that aren’t even job related.

If I had a job I liked, lived in an area I liked, and had friends to hang out with and things to look forward to, that’s all I’d need. I don’t like pressure!! I value free time and relaxing!! I don’t want to bust my ass aspiring to some lofty job where I’ll be constantly stressed and have no time. I’d be happy at an average job where I’m around good people.

This is also a reason why a minimum wage that’s a //living wage// is so important. When people say they don’t make enough money the answer they often get is “well get a better job”. But maybe they’re happy doing what they do, or maybe the schedule is what works best for them for things they care about outside of work. Not every job is a stepping stone or a waiting room to “bigger and better things”. Sometimes a job is just a job and that’s OKAY and everyone should be able to make a living where they work, wherever that is.

It fucking drives me NUTS when people argue that “if everyone had enough money to free them why would anyone work?”

Like dude, we’d work. Just… Doing stuff that we like. Even menial shit.

Harvard has a pigment library that
stores old pigment sources, like the
ground shells of now-extinct insects,
poisonous metals, and wrappings from
Egyptian mummies, to preserve the
origins of the world’s rarest colors.

image

A few centuries ago, finding a specific color might have meant trekking across the globe to a mineral deposit in the middle of Afghanistan. “Every pigment has its own story,” Narayan Khandekar, the caretaker of the pigment collection, told Fastcodesign. He also shared the stories of some of the most interesting pigments in the collection.

image

Mummy Brown

“People would harvest mummies from Egypt and then extract the brown resin material that was on the wrappings around the bodies and turn that into a pigment. It’s a very bizarre kind of pigment, I’ve got to say, but it was very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.”

image

Cadmium Yellow

“Cadmium yellow was introduced in the mid 19th century. It’s a bright yellow that many impressionists used. Cadmium is a heavy metal, very toxic. In the early 20th century, cadmium red was introduced. You find these pigments used in industrial processes. Up until the 1970s, Lego bricks had cadmium pigment in them.”

Annatto
“The lipstick plant—a small tree, Bixa orellana, native to Central and South America—produces annatto, a natural orange dye. Seeds from the plant are contained in a pod surrounded with a bright red pulp. Currently, annatto is used to color butter, cheese, and cosmetics.”

image

Lapis Lazuli
“People would mine it in Afghanistan, ship it across Europe, and it was more expensive than gold so it would have its own budget line on a commission.”

Dragon’s Blood
“It has a great name, but it’s not from dragons. [The bright red pigment] is from the rattan palm.”

image

Cochineal
“This red dye comes from squashed beetles, and it’s used in cosmetics and food.”

Emerald Green
“This is made from copper acetoarsenite. We had a Van Gogh with a bright green background that was identified as emerald green. Pigments used for artists’ purposes can find their way into use in other areas as well. Emerald green was used as an insecticide, and you often see it on older wood that would be put into the ground, like railroad ties.”

My long distance friend across the seas who I talk to every day and is so important to me. My dad who raised me and who gives me so much good advice and wisdom but also understanding.
