GET READY FOR NO PORN TUMBLR DECEMBER 17

Holy fuck

note to everyone: nsfw art and written works (erotica) will still be allowed, it says so in the TOS linked (if it’s explicit, it won’t be allowed)

but honestly, with how terrible tumblr is as a functioning site, i feel like whatever they code to deal with porn on this site is gonna get nsfw artists and writers caught in the crossfire nonetheless. that’s mostly me being negative but we all saw what happened in the purge tumblr recently did

A better, more positive Tumblr

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

why not get rid of like the last reason I’m on this hellsite

Yeah, I am positive Tumblr will be pretty much dead after this.

I’ve been searching for a better alternative already ^^

@xladymalice and @mellednsfw

Check out dreamwidth it is where most are migrating to.

Really Tumblr? You can’t deal with all the fighting so no nsfw content? Oh very mature!

shipping-isnt-morality:

TO BE FAIR:

This almost certainly is about app stores cracking down on NSFW content + yahoo facing pressure for having a major social media site that allows NSFW content. Tumblr wasn’t making much money to start with, but the deplatforming they were dealing with was going to be a big hit to their bottom line.

Of course, I think this is going to be an even bigger hit, but social media sites have survived explicit content purges before – and of course NSFW content will always be around on every site. Some people will still use tumblr, but I think this is its official fandom death.

Do you think they will take down a lot of witchblr stuff???

Yes and no, if they decide for one reason or another it is not seen as falling under their new policy. But a lot of witch blogs are at risk because if you have reblogged or posted those artistic images or gifs of the topless witches around the bonfire, or artsy nude photography it could be flagged as pornographic.

I have also seen that they may be planning to censor other parts of the site but that is the only known mention. But, one also must remember the main blood of this site is artists, fandom and writers. Most of those people are going to be censored, deleted or blocked in some way. If most of tumblr leaves or goes away, the site is going to fall aprt and that includes the witch community. And even more so, a lot of witchblr myself included have art blogs, writing blogs and aesthetics. If those go away then a lot of witches won’t stick around here just to be here.

tumblr is banning ALL NSFW content starting Dec. 17

So to any nsfw art blogs out there, time to post about your alternative art accounts on twotter/pixav/dovientart

(stares at the nsfw art blogs im following) 👀

SOURCE

Before you take this headline to heart, ACTUALLY READ THE POLICY.

It is ONLY in reference to what we’d call porn. Pics, GIFs & Vids of LIVE humans that are exposing themselves/nude.

Anything that is illustrated (fan art) or written (fanfic) is UNAFFECTED by this new policy!

This is aimed at getting rid of the pornbots that infiltrate this site.

Anything sexual (excluding erotica) is gonna be banned. Artistic nudity and “exposed female-presenting nipples” are fine.

This is incorrect, they are not allowing any exposed female nipples unless it is in sculpture or traditional art. Illustrations of nudity are not allowed and this includes fan art.  A direct quote

“Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.”

This means fan content and drawings are out and knowing tumblr seeing as they are already deleting webcomics and photography blogs and even drawn figure studies, they will be deleting fan content.

Dreamwidth

martienne17:

carmentalis:

There’s been talk about alternatives to Tumblr lately, so I’ve put together 7 basic little bits about Dreamwidth to help anyone who’s completely new to it get started. It’s by no means a complete list (see the FAQ for that), but it might help with your first steps and to get a general idea if you decide to sign up.

The big plus of Dreamwidth is that it’s been created by fans, and there’s some overlap between the DW and the AO3 teams. So for fannish content, it’s probably the safest space we can get at the moment. And the people in charge understand fandom and care about it in a way a corporation like Yahoo (who owns Tumblr) never will.

Anyway, here are a few bits and pieces to get you started:

1. Privacy options
In your journal you can decide who gets to see your posts:

  • Public – everyone can see the entry, even if they don’t have a DW account
  • Access List – Only those users you’ve granted access can see this post. This is a good option if you want to share something with friends, but not the entire world.
  • Private – only you can see this entry

2. Reading List
Your reading list contains the entries from all journals you’re subscribed to. Depending on the access you’ve been given, you’ll see only their public posts or also their access-restricted content.

3. Circles
Every journal has a circle. This is the collection of journals connected to you in various ways:

  • you’re subscribed to them, so their entries appear on your reading list
  • they’ve subscribed to you, so they read your entries
  • you’ve given them access to your locked content
  • they’ve given you access to their locked content

On your circle page you can administrate these settings.

4. Filters
If you’re subscribed to a lot of journals and communities, your reading page can turn overwhelming. You can create filters to group those journals, so you can choose between having your reading page display all journals or only the ones in this particular filter.
You can also filter for personal journals, communities and feeds in this way:

5. Communities
Dreamwidth has a special kind of journal – communities. More than one user can post here, so it’s a great way to share posts and discussions. Every community has administrators, who control who can join, who can post entries and what the community’s journal looks like. Anyone can create a community.
Comms are one of the things that made LJ so central to fandom, back when it wasn’t broken yet – they’re an incredibly easy way to keep track of shared interests and meet people who’re into the same topics as you. In this they’re similar to tags on Tumblr, only with admins to curate the content, keep it safe and keep out the false positives.

6. Feeds
Feeds let you subscribe to content from another site that has an RSS or Atom feed available. Good news – Tumblr does! So if you want to follow someone’s posts on Tumblr in your Dreamwidth account, you can add them as a feed and not miss anything.

7. Tags
Tags on Dreamwidth work a little differently from those on Tumblr. Here they’re mainly a way to organize your own entries and make it easier for visitors to your journal to find older content you’ve posted on this topic. You cannot subscribe to a tag.

Dreamwidth is different from Tumblr in some ways, and you’ll spend some time in the beginning to figure it out. But there are far more options for customisation and you get much tigther control over your content and who you want to share with.

(I’m at carmenta.dreamwidth.org over there; feel free to say hi!)

8. Bookmarking

Simply select the heart button in the top menu of any Dreamwidth entry to save the item in your memories. Memories can be tagged with keywords so you can find them later, and your memory entries can be made public or private when the memory is added.

According to the new policy, fanart and fanfic should be fine for posting on here. It’s just pics/videos/gifs that feature nudity or sexual content that might be removed.

Shall I remind you how my blog didn’t contain images and was still deleted? How the same happened to others?

How tumblr explicitly said: “We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.“
With the obvious mess that tumblr always does with screening bots?

How they also said: “Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content—including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations—that depicts sex acts.”

Bolded is mine. So yeah, explicit fanarts are out.

They say that written e rotica is fine, but where are the boundaries that cross the line into “harm to minors” in fiction? We’ve already seen how well fanon written content does on tumblr. Why risk it all when Ao3 already exists for fanfics with the certainty that you won’t get kicked out?

Art is NOT safe, written is fine, but since theyre kind of blocking any and all content from searching and tags like uhhhh whats the point I guess….. TO DREAM WIDTH

Have you seen the “Starting Dec 17, adult content will not be allowed…” ToS update? Do you think the “nudity in art, such as sculptures and illustrations” part possibly covers also erotic fanart/drawings, or just, idk, classical illustrations of naked deities and the like? Should artists back up their nsfw works and move them somewhere else asap, if they haven’t done that already?

freedom-of-fanfic:

  • Do you think the “nudity in art, such as sculptures and illustrations” part possibly covers also erotic fanart/drawings, or just, idk, classical illustrations of naked deities and the like?

in my opinion, going off past experience with this kind of thing:

in theory, this will be like DevArt’s policies about n sfw adult content I imagine: ‘tasteful nudes’ that be counted as ‘artistic’ are okay, but Doing the Do will not be okay. educational content about sexy stuff will be okay, but visual aids will not be okay.

in practice:

  •  images of naked (cis white) women will be okay, but everything else will get a banhammer.
  • same sex romantic content will be far more likely to be removed than anything interpreted to be opposite sex romantic content.
  • images of transgender bodies will be far more likely to be removed than images of cisgender bodies.
  • educational content about sex will get removed just as often as any other content about sex no matter what the context
  • content of any rating about LGBTQIAPN+/queer relationships will be treated as sexually explicit. content about straight relationships will not.
  • content of any rating about transgender/nonbinary/genderqueerness physiological changes/feelings and/or experiences will be treated as sexually explicit.
  • informational content about uterus/vagina/ovary reproductive systems will be treated as sexually explicit, as will anything about sexual development & awareness during puberty – particularly if related to non-straight/non-cismale feelings
  • people between the ages of 13 and 17 will not be allowed to talk about their own experiences irt sexual feelings, etc because all content that acknowledges minors can experiences sexual desire or interests will be treated as cp. (reminder that just b/c minors can experience these feelings doesn’t mean they can consent to sex, especially with an adult.)
  • 100% black & white treatment of potentially sexual content ensues. any attempt to elucidate the differences between adult n sfw content vs cp vs fictional depictions of csa vs l0li vs darkfic mentions of sexual abuse vs noncon vs rape fantasy vs …. you get the point … will be removed.

tl;dr: when a platform as big as tumblr says ‘no n sfw’, it inevitably enforces existing sociopolitical boundaries on what’s okay and not okay – which means the LGBT+/queer community, women (trans, cis, or otherwise), and young people suffer the most.

  • Should artists back up their nsfw works and move them somewhere else asap, if they haven’t done that already?

hell fucking yes.

Exactly if they are already deleting art blogs with lgbt characters kissing as being flagged as ‘adult content’ they’re going to likely start banning it far more often if not entirely. I’ve already seen body positivity blogs deleted for being ‘adult content’ for having someone in a sports bra.

I’m not gonna start the dialogue here, but PLEASE reblog this as far and wide as you can so people can begin backing up content.

Goodbye to several art blogs, webcomics, photography blogs and body positivity blogs. Oh no is that a titty, you gotta go! Yeah I’m going to set up a dreamwidth. I never came here expecting ut to bs a childrens site but because staff cant control pornbots they have to just screw everyone over.

Not only is there a rampant bully issue on this site and suicide baiting that tumblr never addresses, pro ana blogs fucking everywhere and the never ending problem of theft and reposting it is now being overly censored. Preventinv illegal content is one thing, censoring everything like we’re a church website is another. What about the pro nazi blogs? Pro kkk? Oh thats right theyre fine. No, fuck that.

Hopefully I will see some of you there.

themanicnami:

Honestly, I am thinking of moving to dreamwidth for numerous reasons at this point because tumblr is just over all incompetent. I understand why they want to remove all nsfw especially due to the pornbot plague but at the same time they are still removing art blogs, photography and now I have yet again seen more of my stuff stolen. Over all, from what I heard dreamwidth actually handles stolen things better. If i do leave I will let you all know first.

For those wondering what dreamwidth is, its a rather new blogging site that is set up to focus on people who create new content such as writing, art, photography, essays, ideas and over all day to day blogging. It was fundraised to be created from what I remember to replace blog sites and social media that were either rampant with stolen content (facebook and insta) or was just too broken to use with toxic communities (tumblr). Now with tumblr going full “protect the children” which includes removing even mildly suggestive art or references to sexual activity (ie kissing, shirtless characters, female breasts even if drawn) and have been purging out art blogs even ones with just figure studies on it this site allows that.

You set your own blog preferences on dreamwidth from my understanding including who can see your blog, what the age restrictions are, who can interact if they can interact at all (ie only see and interact with the actual post), who can see your things etc etc. And that their over all copyright settings are much more effective than most other sites with them removing all copyrighted material that is reported after investigating, with many artists saying that they prefer it over that of other sites.

Here’s their FAQ

https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=1

whats dreamwidth? I’m interested I just don’t know what it is

Its a new blogging site that I’ve heard good things about. You can set up a free account or you can set up a paid which has I heard the better features. It is mostly focused to people who write their own things, artists, photography and other self produced material. I heard that they have much stricter copyright guidelines due to it being a creative site compared to others like facebook, insta and tumblr and I heard that already most artists, photographers, writers and such that already got their tumblrs deleted have gone.

Here’s their main FAQ:

“Ew you’re an adult why are you in fandom”
Kid, if being mocked for fandom shit wasn’t enough to stop me when I was an actual 15 year old, hearing it from a 15 year old when I’m 30 is genuinely hilarious

mmm this post makes me. Uncomfy. people are allowed to like things with no age limit, but its important to not overstep boundaries and stay in your lane.

and chances are if a teenager is shaming you for being in a fandom, its their way of saying “i dont want you to interact with me. go away.” and thats that. dont try to start an argument or fight because there is a Very obvious power imbalance. just leave them be.

you, and all the other people in the notes saying similar things. you are adults. you hold higher societal power than teenagers and children. teenagers and children sometimes see adults in areas they consider “for their age group only” and their “stranger danger” instincts kick in and they immediately feel like that person is a predator.

its perfectly reasonable for those people to want to avoid ppl that are way older than them bc its uncomfortable, and bc theres an obvious power imblance.

like i said before, you are adults. you should know this. dont go off on me saying “what are you gonna? call your momma?” or some shit. dont do that petty shit.

i understand your frustration. but that doesnt mean you dont have to respect other peoples boundaries.

teenagers have time to learn. they have time to grow, and they have time to mature. you did too. show it by not being petty to someone under half your age.

Actually this post started well over a year ago because a fan of my fanfic sent me a glowing message about how good it is (and I write mature content) but then when they went through my blog and discovered that I was 32 and had a kid myself they sent me a rude message telling me that it’s disgusting that I’m still in fandom because fandom is for children and no-one else. This after reading my adult content.

This person literally read my 18+ fanfic on ao3. They came to an adult fanfic space, and then told me I shouldn’t be in fandom because I’m 18+. The point you are making is very valid, but I’ll tell you something in my experience – adults tend to keep to themselves and avoid children in fandom where they are. My main fandom I’ve written, every single friend I’ve made in the fandom is 24+, and the ones who are my fanfic friends in particular are all 30+. Just naturally gravitated towards each other because of mutual interest.

There is a huge wave of puritanical harassment in fandom at the moment (which rose to prominence after I made this post as it happens) where minors go into adult spaces in fandom (on ao3 it warns you and they go past that anyway) and then callout those adults. If you want to talk about ‘staying in your lane’, please take note of this huge anti movement against adult content and tell me who is the one doing so.

This entire thread is full of adults all the way into their 70s who have had young, newer entrants into fandom mock them purely for their age. Ageism in fandom is unbelievably prevalent – younger fans misperceive a lot about their fellow fandom members. Someone commented on this thread yesterday and called tumblr (and by extension, fandom) ‘a place for children’ (largest demographic on tumblr is 18-29 y/o, second is 30-35 so not sure where that perception comes from – my own tumblr blog is over 9 years old and when I first joined it was all early-adopting adults posting images mostly, fandom hadn’t actually made the move over from live journal just yet, though it was beginning) and how this is purely adults ‘circlejerking’ who need to ‘get a real hobby’ and ‘go look after their children or cats or something’. THAT attitude is why I posted it in the first place – the VERY persistent attitude from newer fans that adults don’t belong, aren’t allowed, are creepy and weird merely for enjoying media the same way they do.

We do respect boundaries. We enjoy, we post, we have fun. We tag mature content, because we make it for ourselves and we remember a time where that wasn’t possible and we casually came across adult content and knew it was wrong (the first piece of porn fanfic I came across I was 12 and I backed out of it and didn’t come back for a few years but it was just on a list with other fic, no content rating, nothing). We do not think that younger people don’t deserve to be in fandom – we embrace people joining and loving the things we do. However, when so many, many people on this post share the same experience of having been on the end of the same attitude and behaviour, you need to listen and see that there is a problem. Ageism is rife in fandom, because of the perception that enjoying media enough to want to connect with others about it is ‘just for kids’ the way cartoons are ‘just for kids’ and anime is ‘just for kids’. It’s not. It’s for everyone.

When I was younger, the idea of being in fandom (and especially a woman in fandom – there was mainstream male nerdism and then female nerdism and especially queer nerdism was quite underground, still, in 1997) and writing fic and (lesserly) fanart was seen as strange – my peers made fun endlessly and I had no real life peers who had any interest in fandom the way I did. However, I kept going. Now fandom is mainstream accepted, to the point that voice actors in some fandoms casually name ships for the fandom to use! But now, as an older fan, the mocking comes from younger fans who see adults in fandom as weird, perhaps because they feel that the fandom belongs to them? I don’t know. I’ve never understood the malice that goes into when younger fans make fun of older fans, given that we are present and a normal part of fandom, that we create zines and run cons and organise so much of fandom.

What you read in the notes of this post is a large group of people who identify with having been on the end of abuse of some kind. That is something we do not have to put up with, do not have to ‘have patience for’. Coming as a parent, I would never let my kid treat someone like the way many people here have treated other fans – I would reprimand, educate. I’m not perfect though, and sometimes an off the cuff reaction to being made fun of is natural, especially to repeated offences. Expecting adults to put up with this kind of rude behaviour and just sit back and go ‘oh, they’ll learn eventually’ is cruel – you’re asking people who are being purposely marginalised to just shut up and accept it because ‘well, let kids be kids’. We’re not talking about 4 year olds. We’re talking about teenagers, who should know the basics of ‘don’t make fun of someone for simply enjoying something’.

This tiny little post of ‘I’ve put up with being made fun of for being in fandom a lot, if I didn’t give it up then I’m not going anywhere now’ somehow managed to identify with a lot of people, showing that this kind of ageism is widespread and hurtful, but it’s also against a group of people who have put up with it enough in their lives to be resilient and not let it force them out.

^^^This. Every “what are you still doing in fandom” interaction I’ve ever had has come from some kid intruding on my adult space, and trying (and failing) to police me out of it. Which only makes sense to me; older fans have boundaries because learning to respect boundaries is part of maturation. Teens are still figuring that out, so they try to create lines where those lines don’t belong. The problem is that some of them then get pissed when they’re told to stop.  Getting angry when somebody says no is a childish reaction.  It means they aren’t mature enough to be here, yet.

Also, some of these kids are mistaking the nervousness and discomfort that comes of entering a new space – which isn’t age-related – for a threat.  Which really just means they don’t have the experience to tell the difference, yet.  And since their parents aren’t doing a good job of teaching them how to interact with strangers, it falls upon us to tell them what’s what.  So:  it is not reasonable for teens to do the “stranger danger” thing when they are the newbies coming into an established community. It is not reasonable for them to be uncomfortable around adults – not when they are entering an adult space. If they do have these reactions, then they’re not yet mature enough to be here. And rather than try and shove the adults out of their own space, they should probably go away for a while, get some life experience, and come back when they’re ready to hang with the big kids.

okay, offense, but you dont get to tell people theyre “creating [boundaries] where those lines don’t belong”, especially teens and children. other people laying down their own boundaries when it comes to interacting with you isnt immature

also, given that op is reblogging nsfw voltron art i think its safe to say you don’t actually give a shit when the space isnt made for you, like a goddamn kids cartoon, which, yes, adults can enjoy, but apparently can’t understand that they are not the primary audience for

How did you…. manage to miss the point so hard? There’s a HUGE difference between enforcing personal boundaries (good, important, necessary, 1000% agreed) and forcing everyone older than some arbitrary cut-off out of a public space. Teens should absolutely place boundaries and other people should absolutely respect them. But did you like… Even read the OP? At all? This is not about kids saying “I’m uncomfortable interacting with you”, it’s specifically the kind of entitled brats who actively bitch at people just for being too old and still in fandom.

But then you equate adults sharing nsfw content amongst eachother with not caring when a space is made for you (talk about bringing in completely irrelevant opinions and reachy assumptions), which is the most ironic shit I heard, considering modern fandom culture has largely grown out of the underground fan activities of grown women decades ago. Who’s really encroaching on space and crossing boundaries set to protect both author and consumer here. The cartoon is for kids + potential others, sure, but online fandom is for everyone.

I literally already addressed this, as the person above me has said, so I’m just gonna quote myself here:

What on earth about me reblogging mature content about any media subject invalidates that point, or is so wrong that it’s not allowed? If I watch a show and go ‘oh man, I love the connection between those two characters, I’m gonna write a fic about them in a romantic relationship and maybe include them having sex because it would be so great given the canon interactions they have’, what on earth is wrong about that? Because that’s what fandom IS. Fandom is when something someone else has created speaks to you on a level enough that you want to explore it more than the creator has done, accepting that everything else beyond the canon content is personal opinion and enjoyment. Whether it’s NSFW or universally appropriate for even a 3 year old to read, it’s all FANDOM. Fandom is the extension of when you watch a show with your friend and go ‘oh man, they are SO cute together’ and your friend goes ‘right!?!?!’ – it’s when you go and do something about it, discuss it, create art, write fic, connect with others. What does it matter what the source material is? As long as when you create content intended for adults only that you do your best to make sure that anyone not mature enough for it, or that it’s not aimed for, won’t accidentally come across it, then I fail to see the issue here, @nasappho.

There is a very large difference between ‘this thing I made is not suitable for children so I’m going to try to make sure they don’t come across it’ and ‘this person shouldn’t be allowed to even be in fandom because they’re adults’. Fandom is for everyone, but not every piece of content IN fandom is for everyone. That doesn’t mean that anyone should be excluded from fandom in general, only that unsuitable content should be ensured that it’s safely put in the right place. Think of it like music! Everyone is allowed to like music, but there’s a subset of people who make music that deals with mature themes, or has excessive swearing, so that music is warned for. Oh, and of course, some people enjoy listening to music while drinking alcohol, so there are spaces that are adults-only that stop those who aren’t allowed to drink alcohol from entering. Same as movies – movies in general are for everyone, but are graded so that mature movies don’t get shown to those it’s unsuitable, and the places that show movies or sell movies won’t do so to those too young for the content. There is zero difference between enjoying canon content, and fanon content. Everyone is allowed to enjoy the concept in general, but some of it is for adults-only. Adults work hard to create safe spaces that makes sure that fandom is a safe place for everyone to be able to enjoy and contribute and create and connect and share their love of something, whether it’s generally suitable or mature themed, so that the right people see the right thing for them. They introduce the tagging facility, they made add-ons that allow you to blacklist things long before the actual platform itself even thinks of that concept. Adults are the ones shaping fandom into a place where everyone can enjoy what they like, and avoid what they don’t or shouldn’t.

Also, as a point – this gets overlooked CONSTANTLY when people talk about Voltron specifically and call it a kids show – it’s not just a kids show. It has two distinct audiences – kids for whom it is suitable, but also adults who are nostalgic about the show of THEIR youth. The uproar over the hints of Allurance at the end of S7 were baffling to anyone older than 25 because that’s actually… canon in the older show, and the reason for its inclusion in the new show. Netflix’s key paying audience retention strategy is to hit them with redone versions of the shows from their youth – Voltron, She-Ra, Sabrina the Teenage Witch but EDGIER a la the comic (which was effectively a fucking fanfic to begin with), Lost in Space, Gilmore Girls – saying that these aren’t for adults and they are kids shows only is missing a huge part of who they’re being created for. The reason the kids shows themselves are chosen is not just for the nostalgia but because it means these adults, many of whom are at the age where they’ve probably had children, can share parts of their OWN youth with their family. It’s partly why I watched Voltron, why I lost my entire mind when they announced She-Ra. These ‘kids shows’ are for adults, too.

The most interesting part of this whole wave of puritanical outrage is that the “kids” who shame adults for enjoying their adult content, enjoy it too – most of them are here specifically for that content. (Please don’t pretend otherwise, tumblr is hardly a safe space, it’s a porn central of the Internet). They want the adult content – fanart, fanfic, meta, not all adult content is pornographic in nature, some is just mature, well written, etc, but without the adults attached to it.

Wanting to have their cake and eat it too.

All other entertainment venues protect the underaged audiences by barring them entrance and it’s only on the Internet that the “kids” are able so ignore the warnings and walls meant to keep them out and safe – yes, I’m over 18 is, skip warning, I want to see the content – and then complain they aren’t being protected enough, and blame it on the adults present.

It’s like a kid that sneaked into a strip bar, hid under the tables, watched the show and, when found out and questioned, blamed the strippers for preforming.

Its two faced and disingenuous, and, frankly, its bullshit.

And this pretty well sums up the insanity of the go away adults nonsense in spades. Without adults, kids can’t break the rules to read mature/porn based stories as the platforms where it is shared go away. Without adults paying for the sites to exist, they cease to exist.

If us old farts go away so do the fanfiction sites and all the things the little shits want so badly since it is the adult fandom group that pays for such sites to exist in the first place. It isn’t like kids can pay for sites like AO3 themselves, nor any of the rest of the hassles that come from being adults and creating everything that the ingrate kids want so badly either. Without adults in fandom, the internet content for mature and sexual relationships collapses. WIthout an adult’s money to make sites possible, and keep them going, the sites cease to exist children.

My generation helped create places like Fanfiction net back when internet was first developed. If folks like me leave fandom, the the kids can kiss all the major web sites and major archives for fandom goodbye because our money won’t be involved any longer. It is our adult fandom money that makes it possible for kids to read what we write. Without adults, fandom sites collapse and that’s the major reality at the end of the day.

If you can’t afford your hotel room and you can’t afford the incidental hold (that we put in bold letters during your reservation process on the website 3 times). Don’t. Book. The. Room. choose a more affordable hotel or something because I cannot change your rate at check in. I cannot just ‘let the incidentals go’ because I could get fired. I’m sorry but having you under pay us is not worth my job.

One of the groups in house at our hotel has been a nightmare. I don’t want to name them but the irony of the situation is… awful. All i can say it is a recovery group for alcoholics (not AA) and so far we’ve had so many drunken incidents its not even funny and its sad.

Holt shit

YES

I am scared and confused.

I love this….those kids are geniuses…and do they actually know how to play/tongue/bow the instrument they were playing in that video? Not doubting them or anything it just looked like they swapped instruments….

Ok, as the person in the blue shirt on the left, I can explain what is going on here.

On the far left, you see a clarinetist playing a broken cello.  She does not know how to play the cello.  (Nor does that cello have any intention of being played.)

My friend and I are collectively playing a frankenstein of an instrument that I like to call the “Eb bassooninet.”  It’s an Eb clarinet with a bassoon bocal attached. It sounds like a dying duck.

The bassoonist in the middle is the only one playing a normal instrument normally.

Second from the right, you see a clarinetist playing half a clarinet.

Finally, on the far right you see a clarinetist playing a Bb clarinet that is pulled out so far at every joint that it approximates an A clarinet.

The best part about this video is that everyone is actually a really accomplished musician, not that you’d guess it xD

au contraire, this is the kind of thing ONLY accomplished musicians are fucking weird enough to come up with

A few weeks ago I got into an argument with someone about why there aren’t chubby vampires shown in most anything, especially not female ones. They argued its because vampires are always beautiful which is bullshit.

So what am I doing now? Drawing a chubby vampiress waitress. Because she is adorable and wonderful and that’s that.

Update:

Still fixing her and anatomy here and there

this blog is a biphobia-free zone

asynca:

here are things you won’t find on my blog:

  • me telling bisexual folks what language they’re allowed to use to describe themselves
  • me telling bisexual folks they can’t say “wow I’m gay” when they see a hot same or similar-gendered person, or use ‘gay’ as a shorthand for their same-gender attraction whenever they feel it’s appropriate
  • me acting like lesbians are ‘more pure’ queer folks than bisexual folks
  • me acting like bisexual folks in other-gendered relationships aren’t oppressed
  • me acting like bisexual people can ‘choose’ what gendered person they fall for so have some magical way of choosing not to fall for same- or similar-gendered people
  • me in any way presuming to tell bisexual folks what they are or aren’t, what they can and can’t do, or anything about their own sexuality and oppression
  • me acting like there are Special Lesbian Words that bi women are not allowed access to
  • me acting like bisexual wlw are ‘lesbians lite’
  • me policing bisexual folks in any way at all

I’m getting REAL tired of the witch community telling: trans-witches, male witches, nonbinary witches, genderfluid witches and everyone else who is not cis female they can’t be witches.

NEWSFLASH

They can. Anyone can be a witch. Stop your gatekeeping bullshit. If I see you saying that they cannot be, I will block you. End of story.

This has been a PSA, thank you.
