an edible cracker with just one side. mathematically impossible and yet here I am monching on it.
‘scuit’ comes from the french word for ‘bake’, ‘cuire’ as bastardized by adoption by the brittish and a few hundred years
‘biscuit’ meant ‘twice-baked’, originally meaning items like hardtack which were double baked to dry them as a preservative measure long before things like sugar and butter were introduced. if you see a historical doccument use the word ‘biscuit’ do not be fooled to think ‘being a pirate mustve been pretty cool, they ate nothing but cookies’ – they were made of misery to last long enough to be used in museum displays or as paving stones
‘triscuit’ is toasted after the normal biscuit process, thrice baked
thus the monoscuit is a cookie thats soft and chewy because it was only baked once, not twice
behold the monoscuit/scuit
Why is this called a biscuit:
when brittish colonists settled in the americas they no longer had to preserve biscuits for storage or sea voyages so instead baked them once and left them soft, often with buttermilk or whey to convert cheap staples/byproducts into filling items to bulk out the meal to make a small amount of greasy meat feed a whole family. considering hardtack biscuits were typically eaten by dipping them in grease or gravy untill they became soft enough to eat without breaking a tooth this was a pretty short leap of ‘just dont make them rock hard if im not baking for the army’ but didnt drop the name because its been used for centuries and people forgot its french for ‘twice baked’ back in the tudor era, biscuit was just a lump of cooked dough that wasnt leavened bread as far as they cared
thus the buttermilk biscuit and the hardtack biscuit existed at the same time. ‘cookies’ then came to america via german and dutch immigrants as tiny cakes made with butter, sugar/molasses, and eggs before ‘tea biscuits’ as england knew them due to the new availability of cheap sugar- which is why ‘biscuit’ and ‘cookie’ are separate items in america but the same item in the UK
the evolution of the biscuit has forks on its family tree
Personally to me, autumn is the most beautiful season of the year. Nothing compares to the colors, the smells, the sounds, and let’s not forget the tastes you experience in this season! It’s a great way for many witches to awaken their mind, body, and soul. But, not all witches live in vast forest or suburban areas with trees. If you live in the desert like me, (Sonoran Desert, Arizona woot woot 🌵), then you have to find the beauty of autumn in other ways. Seeings how the local cacti aren’t “dropping leaves” and the temperatures are still in the 90°F – 100°F zone it can be hard to get into the spirit of things. So, here are some tips for my fellow witches in the desert!
🍂Get up early to experince dawn ☀️
Set those alarms early. You’ll want to wake up and brew that tea as soon as the sun starts to peep over the horizon. Gotta be up no later than 6 am, trust me. It’s the only time of day where there’s sunlight and it’s only in the 60°F – 70°F temperature zone outside. The best time to get that “fall feeling” you miss is right now. The nip from the desert night’s air meeting the warmth of the morning’s beaming sun rays is indescribable. Nature at her most beautiful and serene. It’s also a great opportunity as witches to charge or cleanse anything you’d like (water, crystals, spell jars, etc) to give an extra “kick” from the day’s first light.
🍂Go Hiking 🏃♀️
No, seriously. I know it seems silly but, go out on a hike and THEN tell me you don’t come back more “one with nature” lol. Whether it be by yourself or with friends, go out an enjoy the life that is teeming all around you. Some of the most beautiful scenes in the desert are during autumn months because the summer rains have left behind all that new green foliage. Not to mention the beginning of migrant animals can be seen on your walks as well. Hiking in general is just a great way to realign yourself with nature. To recharge, cleanse, and give yourself a good “boost” in positive energy.
* Helpful desert tip: Remember to always keep a charged cell phone, water, and food on your person when you go out hiking. Also it is super important that before you go out on a trail monitor the weather in the area you are going to. Monsoon rains and flash flooding on trails is still a big threat to hikers until October. Make sure if you hike alone somebody knows exactly where you are going, how long you are planning on hiking for, and when to expect you back from your hike.
🍂Plant something new 🌱
This time of year for us desert witches is great for planting new seedlings. Those precious flowers and herbs that died this summer? Try replanting them now. Mints, lavenders, berries, peppers, all sorts of plants can now flourish. With temperatures still warm during the day but short of freezing at night, even outdoor planting and gardening is perfect in autumn. If you have succulents put them outside in the wee hours of the morning. The early rays are perfect for even delicate babies to enjoy outside safely.
🍂Celebrate with local foods 🥐🍎
Anyone can eat pumpkin pie or have apple cider. It’s in the markets EVERYWHERE. But, fall for me means prickly pear and mesquite trees. Prickly pear is a fruit from the cacti plant, Opuntia, and it is heaven. It’s our pumpkin here in Arizona in a lot of ways. Culturally it’s a staple to welcoming autumn in the desert. The monsoon rains have brought a lot of new harvest. The fruit is picked for grilling, baking, soups, candies, jams, jellies, drinks, breads, cakes, you name it, it’s made with prickly pear. lol. As well with mesquite trees, you can mill the pods that the trees drop in the fall and make flour with it. The rains from the monsoons has been making the pods sweet and ready to bake into breads, pies, cakes, all sorts of goodies. I can always tell it’s autumn out here when you sit fire side to mesquite wood burning, prickly cakes, and a nice tall glass of prickly pear cider. yum! 😊
Where ever you are, remember to embrace all the moments fall has to bring. Enjoy the changing season around you and celebrate it however best fits you 🍁
I could not find a specific page for this, but Ylang Ylang is usually associated with calming, employment, love, magical ability, and anti-negativity. (source)
If you’re someone who wants to make original stuff for people to see, DO IT!!!
Your worth as an artist is not determined by the number of Tumblr notes you get. Followers are NOT a currency. Don’t worry about instant gratification, because you’re creating something only you can own for the rest of your life! It will take you longer to build up an audience around something that doesn’t have a pre-loaded fanbase. In fact it’ll probably take longer than you think, but you’ll have a much more satisfying artistic career.
ive had to deal w this argument before ok listen here
boobs do the oxytocin thing when theyre stimulated yes, nipples are an erogenous zone. Men’s nipples do this too. Now read over those two sentences and let the double standard dawn on you okay? Think about it if both kinds of nips release oxytocin when you do the touch touch on them, why is only one kind of nip considered a sexual nip? sexism that’s why
it’s ridiculous and technically makes a dude’s nipples more inappropriate than a lady’s nipples because boy nipples serve virtually no other purpose than to be stimulated by temperature change or by sexual activity, while girl nipples serve the added purpose of oh you know, feeding babies no big deal
but nah man nah both can be aroused so both nips are sexual or no nips are so make up your mind
you know where else is an erogenous zone?? ears. Are you wearing an ear bra/?? Why the fuck arent you wearing your fucking ear bra you trash put on yoourfucking ear bra youre not allowed to show your fucking ears thats so inappropriate and its makinng me horny its distracting me from my school work youre not following the dresscode wear your fucking ear bra yo ufucking
this glitch is making every funny post 10x funnier bc it looks like the text equivalent of when someone just stares at you silently after you make a joke
what the heck is going on with Tumblr? Am I the only one who sees random reblogs shown in the post as if the person said something while it’s actually an empty reblog? I saw even my name shown on a post as if I said something but I did not?? Why is this site so broken xD
(it happens both on desktop and mobile for me :/)
me too i get it too!
Me too and reblogging something takes me two or three tries now too
I am still sad about this like, no one on the delivery company’s help page is replying to me and like all I want is for the food I paid for. Thank gods I got that 5 dollar appetizer and small cup of ice cream, that is totally worth the amount I paid for a large entree and three sides you are right.
Me: please koogi make my wish come true and show me bum stuffing himself with food
Koogi:
Me: um… thanks
Like this scene is odd in a koogi way, but I honestly think he’s eating that way to try to show that he hasn’t eaten in a while at all and has just been hiding upstairs to the point that he is desperately shoving it into his face almost like an animal and is pretty much eating it off the floor. I think it was her way of trying to show its been couple of days since Sangwoo left and also further hinted at with him saying it must be bad.
british people: better stop off at the next motorway services since i’ve been driving for 3 hours, which is 1 hour more than the highway code recommends!!
americans: yeah it’s a pretty short drive only like 47 hours if i don’t stop
The comments on this poet are filled with white nerds being misogynistic lmao, surprise
I know. So many angry white nerds in my inbox after posting this, its hilarious. So here’s some more excellent commentary since the Hardwick story broke:
Capital classes: I wonder why “eat the rich” and guillotine jokes are so popular among millennials?
Also Capitalists:

“i cancelled my vacation plans i’d rather be at work” do_you_smoke_crack.jpg
Sometimes I am criticized in conversations with co-workers as a “mercenary” because I am militant about not giving anything for free.
Well let me tell you, I wasn’t born that way. I have actually said and done some of the things above. I’ve cancelled vacations. I’ve taken pay cuts to stay somewhere out of misplaced sense of loyalty. I’ve taken a pay cut to give my department the resources I felt it needed to succeed. Do you know what happens to an employer who has an employee like this? They take it for granted. Always. They just start to accept it as the norm.
I’m all done with this shit. I don’t work for free. I don’t give my time away. Fuck you, pay me.
