Mostly I have just been doodling since its been well over 4 months since I’ve had a proper sketchbook and time to do much, despite being an art major TT-TT
Sangwoo wakes from a rather unpleasant dream and finds Bum sucking him off (Side note: don’t have sex with unconscious people).
Bum is taking an active role, while Sangwoo is in a passive role. This dynamic that Bum has put them into angers him, and he grabs Bum off the floor and onto the table, reestablishing him in the dominant position and Bum in the submissive position.
Bum is either too drunk or too horney realize how ticked Sangwoo is. And Bum, just going with the flow, stares moaning out “Babe.” This is clearly triggering for Sangwoo, and so he finds the most practical why to shut Bum up: shoving a corncob in his mouth.
Bum, who’s not type to judge you on your cornkink, continues to go with the flow and decides he’s gonna ride that dick, because yolo.
However, doing so, reverts Sangwoo back into a more submissive position.
Sangwoo starts to panic.
His mind, responding to the distress, reverts to old tacts that kept him safe/alive in the past, which is appeasing the ‘attacker’. He asks if the other feels good (assessing the other’s state, while mimicking positive engagement), and states that he feels good too (assuring the other that everything is okay, that there’s no reason for violent escalation). At the same time he’s demanding to see Bum’s face, to help ground him in reality, that right now he’s with Bum.
But he slips up.
Now a couple small predictions for the next chapter, Sangwoo doesn’t want to disclose what his mother did to him, and so if Sangwoo is going to tell Bum, he’s needs a really good reason too. Bum, I doubt would judge Sangwoo for what happened to him, if Sangwoo does tell him the truth. However, in the last two chapter’s Bum has stressed that he wants to feel like they are in a real relationship, that he is loved, and that this love is genuine. But Sangwoo wasn’t thinking about him while they were having sex.
When Sangwoo brought Bum up from the basement, he told him three important things:
1. Bum reminded him of his mom
2. That he loved his mom
3. And he asked if Bum wanted to be the mom
If Bum convinces himself that Sangwoo is just projecting his mother on him, that Sangwoo doesn’t actually love him, it will break his heart.
Happy Halloween everyone! I have been thinking about doing this for a while and after some positive feedback its time for some fun!

Story about bad kids and likely bad parents.
So as many of you know I work front desk at a very nice hotel. Not 5 star but still up there and the largest hotel in my state. We have a large open lobby with enterances to our restaurants at the end of it, glass elevators to the north near our VIP private dining room, our bell desk and our business center. Our front desk is directly across from the elevators and next us is our “Snack Shack” which us essential food and drink items guests can purchase for convenience.
It was around 6pm at night and 3 boys ages 8 to 12 came in, looking like brothers. I and 3 other agents are on shift. We are each checking in guests but keeping our eyes on the boys since they pretty much ran into our snack shack.
I hear my coworker shout “you have to pay for those!” I look up to see all 3 running with arns full of things. Our bell captain blocked our entrance. He calmly told the boys to put it back. Mind you these boys arent in poor quality old clothes, they are in very nice name brand items. They drop the stuff on the floor. Our manager told them not to return again.
It is now 10pm and all three return, much too late for kids their ages to be wandering a city in my opinion. We are all watching them. My coworker tells them they have to leave, because of the theft attempt. They throw a fit to say the least cursing at him and stormed out.
3 minutes later a guest runs inside to tell us the children were ripping up our flower area throwing them at cars and guests. I sent my manager and security out. This is now property damage and trespassing and possibly assault if someone gets hurt.
We ended having to have police pick them up.
Like, what parent lets their young children behave and wander at night like this??
Okay but seriously folks – as often as I joke about this movie stirs my loins and as weirdly popular as this text post got a while back, I wanna rap with you all about why the George of the Jungle remake is a pretty important piece of cinema.
It’s literally the only movie I can think of that is based completely around the unheard of “FEMALE gaze.” Granted, while I’m a huge movie buff I’ve not seen every movie ever made. But even so, even if there’s another example of the “female gaze” in cinema that has escaped me it’s still damn impressive that a kids movie from 1997 based on a Jay Ward cartoon from the 60’s managed to turn gender representation in media on it’s fucking ass!
First things first, let’s look at our leading lady and love interest – Ursula, played by Leslie Mann.
Let me just say that while Leslie Mann is adorable and a talented actress, she does look a little less conventional and a little more plain compared to the bombshells that Hollywood likes to churn out. Leslie, in comparison, looks much more like a real women you’d meet on the street. She dresses pretty conservatively and plain throughout the film ; Wearing outfits that are more functional than fashionable for trekking through the jungle, pulling her hair back and so forth. Not that if she was dolled up and more scantily clad it would give her character any less integrity, but can we appreciate how RARE that is in the male dominated industry of film? Just think about all the roads a film about a woman in the jungle COULD have taken but didn’t – no scenes with her clothes strategically ripped or anything! You can say this is a kids movie, intended for children and that’s why the sensuality of the female lead is so downplayed but there are PLENTY of kids movies that handle women in a very objectifying and sexualized manner despite the target audience is pre-pubescent. Like, a disgusting amount. So I don’t think “it’s a kids movie” is why the film doesn’t take ANY, let alone EVERY, opportunity to showcase the main female character’s sex appeal…
…especially considering the sex appeal of the film rests squarely on the well defined shoulders of our male lead, George of the Jungle played by Brendan Fraser in the best god damn shape of his life!
*Homer Simpson Drooling Noises*
Whenever members of the reddit community try to compare the sexualization of women in fiction to the design of characters such as Batman and Superman, I always want to just sit them down and show them this movie. Because THIS is what the female sexual fantasy looks like, and Batman and Superman are male power-fantasies. Look at him – his big blue eyes, his soft hair, his lean, chiseled physique built for dexterity rather than power. He’s wild and free, but gentle. It’s like he fell right out of that steamy romance novel your mom tried to hide from you growing up.
Hell, the whole plot seems to be designed around how damn hot he is! First, for the majority of the film, he wears only a small strip of cloth to cover the dick balls and ass. Everything else is FAIR GAME to drool over for 40 minutes. Then, after he meets Ursula she takes him with her to San Francisco just so we can enjoy him in a well-tailored suit (as seen in the gif set), running around in an open and billowy shirt along side horses while Ursula and all of her friends literally crowd around and make sexual comments about him, and my personal favorite, ditch the loincloth entirely and have him walk around naked while covering his man-bits with various objects while one of Ursula’s very lucky friends oogles him and makes a joke along the lines of “So THAT’S why they call him the ‘KING of the Jungle’…”
And yes, it’s also a very cute and funny little movie. Out of all the movies based on Jay Ward cartoons, it was the most faithful to the fast-paced humor and wit of the original source material (yes even the new Peabody and Sherman movie which honestly I thought was too cutesy-poo.) But that’s not why this movie is popular with the gay community or why we all became women in 1997. It’s just really cool that there’s a film out there where the sensuality of the female form takes a back seat for the oiled up, chiseled, physique of Brendan Fraser (in his prime that is)
One thing to add: in the scene mentioned above where the ladies are watching him in the billowy shirt running with the horses, it pans back to about 50 feet away to two guys in suits at this party looking at the women and one of the guys says, “Man, what is it with women and horses?” So not only does this movie highlight the female gaze, but it blatantly points out that western male sensibilities don’t have a clue what actually appeals to women.
ALSO
he’s non threatening
as mentioned above, he looks built for dexterity rather than power, but he’s still a 6+ foot tall extremely muscular man, and not once are you worried for Ursula when he’s with her
ALSO
let’s take a look at his rival – Lyle is a cravat-wearing trust-fund kid (who, interestingly, is into Ursula’s fortune more than her, which kind of makes this a gender-swapped gold-digger thing too). He’s blonde and Ursula’s mom LOVES him. He’s more uncomfortable and less prepared to cope with the jungle than Ursula is, in his pastels and shiny shoes.
But he talks over Ursula, insists he knows what’s best for her, ignores her autonomy. In spite of the fact that Lyle Van de Groot is a rich, educated, social climber who cares deeply about his clothing and appearances he is a point-by-point checklist of unhealthy masculinity in a way that beefy, inarticulate, uneducated George could never be. Ursula is off on her own doing her own thing and Lyle hires two FUCKING POACHERS to track her down in the middle of the jungle while she’s working (or on vacation? It’s never made clear because he interrupts her before she can explain why she went on the expedition). Lyle ignores the local guides, claiming his experience with a bridge in Maui means the bridge they’re on is safe – which leads to a significant injury for one of the guides. He then tells Ursula the guides are conspiring against him, trying to make himself and his poachers seem safe and the Africans who make up the rest of their party seem dangerous.
Check that body language! A post above points out that we’re never worried about Ursula when she’s around George. That’s because Lyle talks to her like this. Look at his aggressive lean! Look at him literally looking down at her! She’s tilted away from him in the least threatening position possible and he’s so aggressive about whatever point he’s making. When he finds her after he pushed her toward a damned lion he kisses her and she pushes him away. Want a textbook example of gaslighting? Here you go: she says “don’t get all smoochy with me! I remember what happened with that lion” and he responds “What are you talking about? I was fighting that lion the whole time – you were just so terrified you don’t remember.” Then he shoots George! And then he kidnaps Ursula and attempts to force her into marriage!
Now look at how George and Ursula interact (slightly NSFW):
Even though he’s a big strong dude and he thinks he’s doing what’s okay he lets her set the tone for their interactions. He accepts that he’s out of his wheelhouse and even if he doesn’t understand it he does what she says is culturally appropriate. He learns from her! He listens to her! Compare Lyle leaning into Ursula above to this image of George and Ursula talking:
He’s listening to her, all of his attention is on on her, but he’s totally nonthreatening. His torso is turned toward her but he’s not invading her space, his hands are clasped, he’s smiling, and she’s the one leaning into him. Look at that smile she has, look how happy she is to be listened to. Her posture in both images is vulnerable but in this one with George she’s vulnerable because she has chosen to share with him instead of because she feels threatened.
When George rescues Ursula from Lyle at the end of the film it isn’t a typical damsel situation – George doesn’t have a knock-down-drag-out fight with Lyle, he swings into a tree and offers Ursula a hand so she can reach up and save herself (and before he does it he acknowledges how much it’s going to hurt and *whimpers* and looks human and scared). And you’ve gotta remember that George rescues everybody. It’s not just Ursula – he also rescues a parasailer and gets shot rescuing Shep and Ape. He just likes helping, dammit!
AND this movie offers a perfect counter to the “nice guy” thing – Ursula starts engaged to a jerk who her mom thinks is a “nice guy” the moves on to actual nice man George who isn’t *just* nice – he’s also patient, listens to her, has his own skills and talents, is okay with being goofy, has his own social circle and isn’t totally dependent on Ursula, and looks amazing. Ursula doesn’t go with George just because he’s a *nice* guy who rescued her from an asshole, Ursula goes with George because he’s an interesting, fun person who is supportive of her different way of being an interesting, fun person. AND he’s emotionally available. Google image search George of the jungle and see how many smiles you can find, see how many open looks of confusion there are, see how much sadness you can see in George’s face. Now look for images of Lyle. His two expressions are a smirk and cartoonish fear. I know this is a cartoonish kid’s movie, but it is SO powerful that the hero shares his emotions while the villain masks every emotion but fear. Lyle doesn’t want to open up, he doesn’t want to be vulnerable, he wants CONTROL. George wants to learn, to protect people he cares about, to explore new places, to laugh when he’s happy and to be sad when he’s sad, and that he does that while being a broad-shouldered, physically powerful dude who is NOT totally self-involved is just…
Like, look, I didn’t sign on to tumblr dot com for George of the Jungle discourse, but I’m just now realizing that this movie may have done the most for destroying my conception of stoic masculinity and gender roles as a child.
Like
Damn.
i just read this entire post
I, in fact, did sign on to tumblr dot com for George of the Jungle discourse.
I saw this movie at just over 30 with my Mom who was mid 50s. We BOTH thought this was one of the sexiest guys we’d ever seen, despite the fact that this was a “kid’s” movie. (Might I remind you that the audience for the original George of the Jungle cartoon was not really kids. Jay Ward’s stuff always had a more sophisticated under-layer than your normal kid’s cartoon.)
George not wearing underlayer; George go commando in loincloth.
1. We are sorry you are by the elevator/road/train/whatever you consider loud. You have to understand, we do not put you there on purpose (usually) and when we are 100% full with no rooms to move around someone is going to end up over there. We apologize but yelling at us to just switch you rooms with someone in the middle of the night, is not going to solve anything. And this happens more than you will ever know.
2. We cannot offer early check in when every single room is occupied, its not even close to check out time and we have equal check ins and check outs. I don’t care how high you are on our loyalty program. I can’t kick someone from their room at 8 am, have housekeeping magically clean it and get you in by 8:15. That is not how it works. We are happy to get you in early when we have rooms already clean or our occupancy is low, but when we are FULL we can’t.
3. The 3 and 4 roomed suites take longer to clean. If the guest checks out at noon it will still take us at least an hour to fully turn over that suite because it is HUGE and sometimes guests in it throw parties or have wedding nights or whatever. Do you want to sleep in unchanged linens after a honeymoon? No? Didn’t think so. So have patience.
4. I am sorry we cannot upgrade you, but even as a member of our loyalty program I can’t guarantee you an upgrade. In fact if you knew the policy you would know it is an upgrade upon availability and time of year. If I have every room booked in the hotel, you are not going to get an upgrade. It is against our entire chain’s policy to kick a paying guest (who is paying more than you) out of their room to give you it instead. If you are so unhappy you are “stuck” with our standard single queen room, book a room you would be okay with being “stuck” with in the case that we cannot upgrade you. If we are FULL and you are paying 90 dollars for your room I, nor anyone else here or any other hotel, is going to kick someone out of their deluxe king room who is paying 280 for it for you. Book what you want to be in and if you get an upgrade it’d be a happy bonus, not just expect to be upgraded. Read the policies of the loyalty program too.
You don’t have to stay completely still to meditate! Wiggling is often fairly essential to getting comfy, and if a position is getting uncomfortable after a while, of course you’ll want to move! Allow yourself little twitches and involuntary movements, and if you’re experiencing discomfort, of course move! Discomfort distracts from your meditation more than making a minor adjustment to get comfortable! Your goal is to be comfortable enough that you’re able to let go of your physical senses, NOT to stay still for ages!
NO THINKING!
You’re totally allowed to have thoughts! If you have a thought, you’re not “meditating wrong”! The real skill comes with redirecting your consiousness away from thoughts after acknowledging them. Feel free to acknowledge your thought, greet it, and recognize it! It’s a thing! But then tell that thought that you’ll come back to it later, and gently send it on its way. Instead of focusing on the things floating in our stream of consiousness, we want to learn more about the stream itself!
SPIRITUAL MEDITATION ONLY!
Meditation is incredibly useful for many things! And many of those things have nothing to do with spirituality or magic or religion! Meditation helps us learn more about ourselves and how our brains work. It teaches us to relax and free ourselves from the vice grip reality and its stressors have on us. Through meditation, we can release unhelpful thoughts, and stress in the body and mind. You don’t have to be a witch, monk, or celestial being to meditate!
IF YOU DON’T HAVE A MAGICAL, TRANSCENDING EXPERIENCE, YOU’RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!
Again, meditation is more than transcending and magic! If you learn anything about yourself, find peace, de stress, ease discomfort, or really get any sort of benefit at all, you’re doing it right! It takes time to easily shift into meditative states, and even more time to easily get into trance/vision states, so not getting there immediately doesn’t mean you’re a failure! NEVER getting there doesn’t mean you’re a failure! So long as you’re improving your state of mind or body in some way, you win!
MEDITATION IS A RITUAL!
Uh, no. Meditation can take place in a temple, with incense and candles and all that fancy stuff, sure… But it can also take place in your pajamas while chillin’ in bed. Or in the back seat on a long, boring road trip. Or in a hot tub. Or on the bus. All you need to meditate is you, your brain, and a want to meditate. You CAN do a ritual before/after/during meditation if you like, but it’s by no means required!
SIT UP, YOU MUST BE IN THE FANCY LOTUS POSITION!
You don’t need to make a leg pretzel to meditate. You can meditate laying down (if you feel you won’t fall asleep), you can be sprawled out in a beanbag, you can be lounging in a recliner… Whatever you want! Again; getting comfortable enough to let go of your senses is the goal. If a sitting, fancy position isn’t comfy for you, don’t do it!
WHAT’S YOUR MANTRA?
Having a mantra or affirmation to repeat is helpful to some, but it’s not for others. You don’t have to have a mantra, and you certainly don’t have to use it out loud!
BEADS, BALLS, SHAPES, OH MY!
You don’t need mala beads to meditate! Mala beads or prayer beads are used to keep track of how many times you’ve said your mantra or prayer, and are more for specific eastern religions. You don’t need those metal ringy balls, though they can be helpful to have a feeling and motion and weight to focus on. Really, all of these things help to provide a focal point. Any skin-safe stone can provide weight or sensation to focus on, or you can even use a stim (cube, spinner, texture, chew, etc) to help. If you’re a fidgeter, or need stim to relax, stim away! But none of these things are required.
IF IT’S NOT EFFORTLESS, YOU CAN’T MEDITATE!
If you have a hard time meditating, problem solve! What was hard about it? Why? How can you improve the situation for your next try? Meditation isn’t instant, and it’s not effortless and easy for everyone! Take your time, move at your own pace, and find what works best for you.
HOW TO: (this is just one method, the one I use!)
1. Get comfy! If you’re able to change into comfy clothes, do it. If you’re able to get comfortable in bed, or a favorite chair, do it. Of course, things don’t always go our way, and sometimes we’re stuck with less than desirable situations, but do your best with what you have!
2. Get EXTRA comfy and relax. Slowly start relaxing your body. Wiggle around and get your torso and central body comfy, then wiggle and get your shoulders comfy, and then your hips, and then your legs and arms, and then your head, and then your hands and feet. Unclench your jaw, let yourself breathe slowly and comfortably (if you’re like me, counting doesn’t help; just get into a comfy, natural breathing pattern.)
3. REALLY relax. Go back through your body, head to toes, toes to head, bit by bit, and relax your muscles and body as much as possible. If you’re struggling, tense, hold, and then slowly relax each part, bit by bit. Let go of your physical sensation. Work to not feel your body at all. Breathe naturally, and slowly, slowly let your body fade away on its own.
4. Inward we go! Breathe naturally and slowly turn your mind inward, and watch your stream of consiousness. A thought may float along, and that’s okay! You can acknowledge it. Say hello to your thought! But then tell it you’ll focus on it later, and let it go. Gently free it from your focus, and let it float away. Do this again and again until you no longer really need to try on it. Once you’re to the point you can watch your thoughts float by without touching them… Congrats! You’ve reached a meditative state!
5. If you struggle to let your thoughts go, or find yourself worrying you won’t be able to think on it later, or you’ll forget, it’s okay. It’s natural! Instead of stopping and moving your body to pick up a pen and paper to write things down, consider getting a recording device of some sort, and simply give your thought a few keywords out loud, to remind you later, before letting it go. You can keep your focus internal, and just dictate absently if you need to!
A special thanks to @takemetotheastral for giving me the motivation to finally make this post!
Call this post a post of boredom but I LOVE animation, I majored in it after all. One thing I love about animation is the villains, I have always cheered them on since I was a kid, I always wanted the villain to win for once which of course doesn’t happen in Disney (unless they turned over a new leaf in one way or another) so here’s a list of some Disney Villains I feel just do not get the recognition or remembrance they deserve. Some I feel are under-rated while others I feel have faded out of a spotlight that they were once in.
Please remember this is all personal opinion based on my own likes and dislikes and nostalgia~ this list is in no particular order
Mirana Del Ray
Yes I know a majorly lesser one from a Disney sequel, not always the choice of most people but hear me out. Mirana was hilarious to me! She was dramatic, over the top, fashionista who just made me feel like ‘same’ all the time with expressions she made and the way she phrased things. She had some pretty good lines in the movie including one of my favorite being “If I hear one more complaint, I’m going to BEACH myself!” which is honestly a very ‘modern’ sense of humor especially for a Disney sequel. The parody moment of her getting hit by the wave in reference to the first movie had me laughing even harder. Honestly as a threatening scary villain she is not, but she is a fun one that I found to be funny and on some levels relatable. Also, to be perfectly honest, her song in the movie is extremely catchy.
Evil Stepmother
Can I be honest with people, as a child the Stepmother was so intimidating. She was everything that gave me anxiety as a child: high expectations, cold demeanor and just unnerving intimidating stairs. Her green eyes during this scene scared me so much, more so than I think any other villain. She is a very realistic sort of a scary to me: the person you can never impress. I will also have to give her points so to say, for being a classic Disney villain. She use to be in the spotlight often but has faded from it as of recent.
Medusa
I feel that The Rescuers is just an underrated movie in general! I loved this movie as a child: two adventurous mice and a little girl go to great lengths to find a pirate’s treasure and escape a madwoman. How could I not like it!? Though I think Medusa as the villain really helped hold the movie together. She was dramatic, over the top, sassy, overly fake and honestly absolutely insane. She was one of the first Disney characters (and one of the few if I recall correctly) who use and wield a gun on screen, a shotgun no less that she uses to shoot at a child. Plus, her gators and her sassy ridiculous walk when she walks with them, I just adore it. She was both hilarious and terrifying all at once!
Judge Claude Frollo
Firstly, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, way way waaaaay too underrated. I have met far too many people who said they never bothered to watch it. If you need any reason to be pushed to watch it one of those reasons should be this guy right here. He is by far in my personal opinion one of the evilest and most controversial (for Disney) villains I have seen. He has one of the best songs in the movie that is just full of how eerily obsessed he is with Esmeralda willing to kill her for not wishing to sleep with him, but pretty much sets all of Paris on fire. Honestly talking about him on here won’t do him justice, if you want to see Frollo in all of his evil greatness (and his amazing song) you just have to watch the movie.
The Horned King
As a child, I absolutely loved The Horned King. I thought he was an intimidating, badass villain and let me tell you I was floored when I spoke to other kids and none of them had heard of him before. For those who have never seen the movie, he is from The Black Cauldron, one of Disney’s past attempts at creating a darker toned movie, which I personally still find to be quite a good film though many back in the day and still today, see it as a movie that ‘crossed the unnamed line’ that Disney has of keeping their films as family friendly as possible. I do miss when Disney did try to make more darker things, especially with modern Disney films rarely being up to my standard (there are exceptions) though if you are also interested in a dark movie with a dark villain who is based off of a Lich and Necromancy, check out this movie. As for The Horned King himself, he was a terrifying and powerful villain, raising the dead to be his army with some intense animation of the dead rising from the fog filled with the souls of the damned. Though I won’t spoil the movie for you, I will say, the climax of this movie was pretty dramatic and gruesome.
This was part one guys, I am hoping to do more. Yes I know, its not one of my usual things but animation makes me happy so I felt like making some simple posts of me blabbing away.
Living on the coast or near the ocean is not an option for many people. Whether it be budgetary reasons, minors living with family, spoonie witches who need to live with caregivers, or being stuck in a landlocked state or country. Though because you have distance between you and the ocean, doesn’t mean you cannot connect to it still. Though your craft will likely not be as powerful at times as one who is practicing straight on the beach, never think that you cannot use the energies of the great oceans in your craft just because you are stuck somewhere else. With this masterpost I hope to help my fellow landlocked witches know how to connect and use sea magick.
Stop the Gatekeeping
First I would like to address a problem I have seen several times in this community (especially here on witchblr) about sea witchcraft. I have seen far too many people telling others they cannot use anything ocean related in their craft unless they are near or on the beach, and that if you wish to practice sea magick you “should just move to the coast”. This is an issue I already brought up in my little intro: for many that is just not possible.
Firstly, in several places living even near the coast costs extreme amounts of money, much more than certain people can afford. Secondly, it may not be medically feasible. If the spoonie witch’s caregivers or care circle cannot move or if moving is something that could upset their illness further, they should certainly not move just to please you “real sea witches”. Some countries are also simply landlocked, they’d have to move completely out of their homeland to reach the coast and for some that is not even an option. So before you go onto this post saying it is inaccurate because sea witches only live by the sea, please do not and think for a moment that not everyone has the same circumstances as you. We all have different lives, needs and situations going on and not everyone can live the same way. Let others practice their craft in a way that suits them.
Getting Started/Creating your Space
As in my previous Stuck In the City post, we are going to start with a space or altar set up that will allow you to help feel connected to the ocean. Depending on the space you have available there can be some fun ways for you to connect to it. First find a corner or a table or even a spare part of a room that you can use for your set up, the more room the better in my personal opinion but I understand that space can be very limited.
Clean and cleanse the space you wish to use, make sure this is done well enough for the space to be comfortable to work in. Next it is time to create space for yourself, create an area that you can either sit or even lay down in, whatever you find to be the most comfortable when meditating or rejuvenating yourself after a long day.
Once it has been clean and cleared find a nice flat space and surface to place your altar, preferable somewhere that is fire safe in case of wanting to use incense or candles. I usually in cases of meditation or long term practice try to make it somewhere comfortable with furniture or an area where I can sit or even recline during my practice. I personally enjoy some extra pillows or cushions in the corner though this is entirely up to you.
Some things to consider adding to your ocean altar: beach sand, shells of any kind (clam, oyster, cone, crushed, broken etc), crab shells, dried sand dollars, dried starfish, driftwood, ocean stones/pebbles, shell dust, sea glass, sea salt, dried kelp (powder), ropes, buckets/cups/bowls/containers, fish bones, fish oil, bottles, shark teeth, cork and sea water.
Texturing is a technique that involves
adding local shading and details on surfaces to better represent the
material of an object.
This technique is of course closely linked to shading in general. This is usually applied after defining a global shading.

Completed sprite
One of the big differences between global and local shading is homogeneity. The
very principle of global shading is to give a sufficiently contrasting
effect between the shaded and lit areas to bring out volume and depth.
Conversely,
a texture must be as homogeneous as possible. It must be able to be
applied on large, uniform surfaces, without making it look bad.
2. Applying a texture
A
texture being homogeneous in terms of its luminosity/contrast, if it is
applied to an object without taking into account the global shading, we
will lose any effect of volume and depth.
A texture applied to a sphere without shading. Only the deformation of the texture can give us a clue on the shape of the object, but it is still difficult to discern.
Homogeneous contrast
When applying a texture to an object, shadows must also be taken into account. It
is therefore important to maintain a uniform contrast between colours. A
dark line separating a light zone from a dark zone should not keep the
same colour between these two zones.
The color of the line will be lighter on the lighter side and darker on
the darker side to preserve its contrast with the background.
In
the same way it is possible to apply a texture or pattern on a shaded
object, by proceeding to a simple color shifting in our palette.
Combination of a texture (left) and an object that is not textured but shaded (middle).
3. Local shading
Since shading is used to highlight the bumps, there are generally two possible cases:
A groove
A bump
Each of these cases can be more or less accentuated by playing on the colors, the intensity of shadows and lights.
On the upper line, troughs ranging from the weakest to the strongest bumps. On the second line, these are bumps that stand out.
The
mastery of these light bumps is very important, it is the basis of the
textures, and will make it possible to manage all the simple cases, such
as wood or matte plastic.
Example of application on a simple object:
4. Reflections
The application of a reflection is done in a
simple way, by applying diagonal strips of light of varying
thicknesses, and following a few rules.
A trough or bump will create an offset at the reflection level (proportional to the height change). As
for the shadows, there is no absolute, depending on the palette or the
material represented, it is possible to lighten or not the area at the
reflection level. It is also important not to have parallel light bands on faces that are not oriented in the same direction, as on this cube:
Concrete example of the application of a gold texture on our drawers:
Or, added reflections on our previous crate:
5. Dithering and granularity
Dithering consists in
creating a new false color from a checkerboard or other regular pattern
of two colors close enough to give an illusion of mixing. The closer
the colours are, the stronger the illusion will be. The more the colours
are contrasted, the stronger the granularity effect will be.
Dithering is basically used to obtain fake intermediate shades on
limited palettes, but it is also very useful for making complex and
rough textures.
Example of complex dithering separating 3 colors over a wide area.
The nature of the pattern totally changes the roughness aspect.
Example of the application of a sandy rock on our drawers:
Or add grain to our crate:
6. The art of destruction
The more complex a texture is, the more it will combine fundamental techniques such as bumpiness, reflections or granularity. However, some materials need to go further, by cutting, slash or breaking the base support.
Cuts It works much like bump, but on a much finer surface. We are subject to the same rules, of which here is a summary image:
From the finest to the most pronounced, on the first line of the cuts, and on the second of the bumps.
A concrete example on our crate:
Exercises
Since nothing beats practice to learn, here is a series of examples from the simplest to the most complicated.
For each exercise resolved, post your results.
Mastering tools
Add
a strong bump on the text of this image, except the ‘x’ which must be a
groove (the center must be dug more strongly than the rest of the ‘x’):
Palette:
Add reflections on the image obtained between the two red lines shown below:
Now cut and break the letter ‘e’ as well as possible.
Add grain to the letter ‘l’.
Finalize a sprite
Texturize/colorize this sprite:
Palette:
Add reflections on the inside of the doors to give the impression that there are windows.
Add damage (cuts etc) on the right side of the wardrobe.
Make a variant of this cabinet by redoing it in gold using the palette of the gold drawers example in the tutorial. Palette:
The ‘Let’s Kill Your Uncle’ plot went way better than expected – uncle is dead, Bum is physically uninjured (emotionally fucked though), and Sangwoo left to cool off rather than take out his disappointment and frustration on Bum
Sangwoo continues to try so dang hard to connect/bond with Bum
anyone who doesn’t agree with the fact that Sangwoo killed Bum’s uncle for Bum is, well, wrong
CH45 Bum tells Sangwoo how important it was that Sangwoo saved him from being sexually assaulted when they were in the military with this soft, fond, so in love expression on his face
CH46 Sangwoo waits until Bum’s uncle makes a move on Bum to move in for the kill – why was that? Because Bum literally just told him how important it was that Sangwoo saved him so Sangwoo decides to reenact the moment Bum fell for him (and that’s some solid Sangwoo logic for you)
Sangwoo killed Bum’s uncle for Bum (and himself, of course, this is Sangwoo, and he wants to connect with Bum to such an extent that Bum will never, ever leave him. Ever.)
Bum’s anger at his uncle – YES
Bum kicking his uncle – sublime
Bum’s anger at Sangwoo – holy shit yes and YES
Bum expressing his anger and Sangwoo just taking it? Wow. That’s solid character development right there
Bum’s memories of the good times he and his uncle had was such a great way to build more depth and to explain WHY Bum reacted angrily to Sangwoo rather than be happy to have his uncle killed
Up until this chapter we have only seen Bum’s uncle as this abusive piece of shit, whether the memories of when Bum’s uncle was kind to him are real or not (having two unreliable narrators is double the fun), it shows Bum being torn between his love for his uncle and his anger at what his uncle did to him (sounds familiar)
Sangwoo being confused and disappointed by Bum’s reaction and then leaving the house rather than taking his anger out on Bum continues this thread of Sangwoo Is Trying So Hard To Be Good For Bum
Bum hiding himself in the same cabinet Sangwoo used to hide in as a child is a great parallel and shows how the two of them are in this circular loop of madness – the cracks are showing though, Bum is getting angry and Sangwoo is getting desperate
it cannot be emphasized enough how much I loved Bum’s rage and how Sangwoo just took it
Sangwoo neverjust takes it, but he did and it shows, again, that he’s trying
(whether or not he restrains himself in CH47 – I hope so, but, well, this is Oh Sangwoo and he’s a spontaneous hunky garbage fire)
Also, plastic bag over Bum’s uncle’s head – Sangwoo is tired of fixing up the kitchen floor and thought ahead on this one, keep it simple, keep it clean, what better way than a plastic bag and a hammer. Sangwoo logic strikes again
Not even a day after their vacation and Sangwoo is already back on his bullshit with mind fucking Bum. It turns out Sangwoo was texting Bum’s Uncle behind Bum’s back. saying he wanted him back and maybe all kinds of lewd things, we don’t know it’s Sangwoo after all.
I full on believe Sangwoo didn’t do this to “help” Bum he did it cause he a petty bitch. He left Bum to be caught off guard and scared of his uncle’s return. He left him unable to respond when the Uncle claimed Bum has been texting him or to explain why he’s living there. So when when Bum tries to break away his horrible Uncle beats and attempts to rape him. Only for Sangwoo to “save him” at the last second. I strongly believe he was waiting his time before stepping in.
Then in that terrifying moment *boom* he’s gone. That didn’t solve anything for Bum, he’s still scarred from the experience, and past experiences with his uncle.
Sangwoo yet again planting his thoughts into Bum. He wants Bum to have his twisted views on killing people. Time and time again Bum is uncomfortable or scared and Sangwoo tries to make Bum think it was the right thing.
Bum only wanted to forget him, forget about the pain, abuse, and betrayal that came with the Uncle. Bum never got to heal properly, he never got to say what he truly felt towards his uncle. How he brought pain to him or anything it was just a *struggle* *fight* then *gone*
Bum breaking down realizing again this “relationship” is wrong. He’s not going to have happiness and stability with Sangwoo. He’s an abusive murder with mental problems. Who doesn’t fully love him.
Bum’s anger is coming out who is plane out aware of Sangwoo and how dangerous he is. He even calls him crazy! Like he knows Sangwoo is capable of murder yet he shouts an insult at him. Sangwoo solved nothing for Bum. He figuratively opened up an old scar and left it up to bleed out.
I thought Bum’s Uncle was always an abusive asshole….. IT’S EVEN WORSE! He was actually kind and tried to connect with Bum when he was small. So many memories of him being kind to Bum only for him to betray him and abuse him when grew older. It’s a hard step to hate someone when good moments fog up your head.
Bum and Sangwoo do the same thing in fear they hide. Sangwoo hides from being caught for his bad actions. Bum hides in fear of being hurt.

Blood magic is not, as some seem to believe, inherently its own discipline of magic, as is for instance necromancy, or kitchen witchcraft. Though, certainly one could construct an entire magical practice around the use of blood if one so desired, and I’m certain some people have.
Rather, I approach blood as a tool to be incorporated into spells.
It’s not as glamourous, mysterious, or dangerous as it’s made out to be. Though there are some risks involved.
The inclusion of blood in any Work greatly enhances its power. Blood remains always linked to the life from which it comes, and channels the power of that life force into the Working. It is a direct connection to a living thing.
There are three primary ways in which blood may be used, based mostly on the source of the blood.
Your Own
Your own blood is obviously the easiest to acquire. Doing so forges a direct and profound connection to the force of your psychic energy.
As one of the factors in the effectiveness of a spell is how much energy the caster commits or is able to consciously direct, these spells are far more powerful than others.
These spells can be surprisingly draining to the caster. They tap into energy more deeply than most can do by other means, and invest whatever it takes to achieve the goal. I’ve never heard of blood spells taking enough energy to have a detrimental effect on health, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Be prepared to feel exhausted. In fact it may be wise to treat it as one would giving blood. Have something sweet ready to go, at least until you know how you’re going to react to this kind of work.
As a note for those dragons reading this. There is a reason dragon’s blood is so famous in lore. The source of energy to which blood connection is exponentially greater in our case than in any human. Blood magic in the hands of a dragon is amazingly potent.
Your Subject’s
There is no question in my mind that blood is the most powerful taglock one could possibly use. As with your own blood, the blood of your subject is a direct connection to their energy. So if you wish to cast a spell on someone, and you can get their blood, it is very useful.
It is extremely difficult to defend one’s self against a spell of this sort. The connection tends to bypass most shields and wards. On which note, if you have any reason to believe someone might want to cast a spell against you, take care not to give anyone access to your blood.
You’re unlikely to get blood from someone willingly, and if they’re willing to have Work done for them, you don’t really need their blood. With an unwilling subject, there are not only ethical considerations (if they’re unwilling, this is probably a curse, but the ethics of curses are beyond the scope of this article) but also legal considerations. Anything you could do to spill someone else’s blood (even poking them with a lancet) would be assault and potentially a felony. Don’t do that. You’ll want to check local laws even before going through someone’s garbage.
Also, there are serious sanitation and contamination issues here. Generally because of these considerations I’d just advise against using a subject’s blood in any Working. There are FAR easier methods. It’s much easier to get a strand of hair without committing a felony, for instance. But, the completeness of the article requires I discuss the possibility.
Someone Else’s
This may refer to a few drops from a friend, in which case you have the addition of their energy to the spell you were already casting. See the information on using your own blood for relevant details.
Many traditions engage in blood sacrifice. There is nothing inherently immoral about the practice, though one may have personal issues against it. In which case the solution is simply not to use this method.
Generally speaking, we’re talking about non-human animals. Human sacrifice is commonly referred to as murder. I don’t need to tell you not to do it, but I will anyway. Just don’t.
Besides, my philosophy makes no distinction between human and animal life, so generally speaking there’s very little difference as far as the power of the energy. I’m a dragon, I think it’s silly to think a human life is worth more than a cow’s life.
Though you may wish to incorporate the symbolic attributes of the animal in the spell. That’s beyond the scope of this article.
Most traditions of animal sacrifice involve using the blood for magic, the viscera for religious rites, the hide and bones for crafting, and eating the meat. Nothing is wasted. It’s actually more conscientious than modern practices, wherein your butcher may well waste everything but the meat.
Animal sacrifice isn’t practical for most people, but this is very useful if you happen to live on a farm and raise food animals. If you wish, you can also go to a butcher shop and ask for blood. Most will be happy to accommodate you, but you need to ask in advance so they’ll save it for you. You may also be asked to pay in advance.
As with using your own energy, incorporating someone else’s blood in your spell is to tap into the depths of their energy in a profound way. When the animal dies in the process, you are using ALL of their energy.
I would not ordinarily kill an animal just for a spell. I don’t like killing for reasons other than self preservation. Such as self defense or for food. So I would only use an animal I then intend to eat. But that is an individual moral choice I leave to you.
In All Cases
There is risk if your intent or focus are lacking. You are wielding an inordinate amount of energy, which will not simply dissipate if you aren’t ready for it. If you are conflicted about your desire, you risk the Working manifesting your subconscious desires as well as your conscious ones. If your mind wanders, or the conditions of your spell itself are not specific enough, you risk wreaking havoc unintentionally. If you don’t want anyone to be hurt, you had better state that as your intent. You’d be surprised how many problems can be solved by someone contracting a sudden illness.
Blood magic is not for those who are not masters of their own minds.
Then again, magic is not for those who are not masters of their own minds.
There are also mundane considerations. The best means of drawing blood is with a sterile lancet of the kind used for blood sugar testing, available along with lancing devices at any pharmacy. A clean, individually packaged scalpel or razor is also effective, particularly if you need more than a few drops of blood, which you will not for most purposes.
Before drawing blood, you must sterilize the area, ideally with an alcohol swab. Otherwise you risk infection. Make no mistake, while the chances are slim, infection CAN lead to loss of a limb or even death. Yes, just from the bacteria normally present on your skin.
If you’ve done more than a lancet, you must also sterilize and bandage the site after you’re done. Again, infection can in fact be lethal. Or at the very least, the medical bills will be expensive. If the area appears red or inflamed the following day or any time thereafter, seek medical attention, as this is a sign of infection.
There’s also cleanliness to consider. Properly dispose of or clean anything which has come into contact with blood. I tend to burn my spell components, so the problem solves itself. The recommended disposal of lancets and razors is to deposit them in a puncture proof plastic container, seal it, and label it “USED SHARPS, DO NOT RECYCLE”. Blood becomes unsanitary in air very rapidly. Any surface which it has touched instantly becomes a germ magnet. No, it does not matter if you’re healthy, your exposed blood becomes toxic in a matter of minutes on its own, and can remain so for days or weeks.
How To Use Blood In A Spell
Now that you have some blood, there are many ways to use it as you can imagine, but I’ll include some of my favorites.
My go-to all purpose spell is the defixio. Defixiones are any form of spell which involves writing your intention (in verse or in prose) and performing a ritual act on the medium in which it is written. The preferred method of my Greek ancestors was to inscribe an incantation onto a lead tablet and bury it. I like to write them on paper (with a consecrated pen) and burn them. I almost always include a drop of my blood either on a cotton swab or directly on the paper, just as a means to charge the spell.
One may also draw sigils in blood. Draw a sigil in blood on paper and burn it. You may also for instance draw a sigil for cleansing on your skin in your own blood, and then immediately step in the shower and wash it off. My fellow nerds will note this is a running theme on the TV show “Supernatural”.
There are spells using large amounts of animal blood to mark thresholds as part of a ward. One such spell is famously described in the Old Testament.
There are also blood oaths, in which one swears an oath while drawing blood, or even literally signs a written contract in blood, binding both parties to a bargain on threat of a predetermined penalty.
There are countless others, but these are the ones that come to me off the top of my head.
I am happy to answer any questions, and I hope that this information is of some use. Thank you for reading. If you have found this helpful, please like and reblog.
Since I’ve seen a lot of misinformation and also talked to a lot more level 1 and 2 Reiki practitioners about their education and attunements recently; I’ve noticed that there isn’t enough out there about Reiki that is actually talking about the history and what Reiki is and how it came into being. So I’m going to just dump a ton of information on you about what Reiki is and basically give you a mini lecture on the histroy that I would my students.
settle in kiddies
Reiki in the West vs Reiki in the East is vastly different even though they are similar and the energy comes from the same source. Reiki in the West is a bit insane. There are so many “variations” of reiki and to be completely honest I find it offensive to just warp a tradition of energy work that is closed until you get attuned into whatever you want. I am a bit of a traditionalist in this sense and was trained in the Usui Shiki Ryoho system, my lineage is through the system Takata brought from the East to the West (though she bastardized reiki a bit as well, we will get into that more later). So while I think all Reiki is valid, I have a hard time getting behind practitioners of “variation” Reiki who know nothing about the history of Reiki or energy work. You don’t have to know energy work to do Reiki but if you don’t all you are doing is becoming a channel and your healing sessions will not go as far; you need an energy worker basis and general knowledge of how to manipulate and read energy to get the best results in your Reiki sessions.
The History of Reiki:
The Japanese word Reiki (pronounced, “Ray-Kee”) is often translated as “universal life-force energy”, but a more accurate translation is “Spiritual energy”. Rei is translated as “sacred”, “soul” or “spirit”, the “wisdom and knowledge of all the Universe” or “atmosphere of the Divine.” It means the Higher Intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the universe, the wisdom that comes from God, the Source, or the Universe. It is highly intuitive, “all-knowing” and as such understands the need for, and the cause of all, problems and difficulties, and how to heal them. Ki is the life-fource energy which flows through every living thing–plants, animals, humans–and which is present in some form in everything around us, even in rocks and inanimate objects. So Reiki is essentially intuitive/knowledgeable soul or source energy.
In Japan, the word Reiki can be used to describe any form of healing using spiritual energy, but in the West when we talk about it we are usually referring to the form of healing practice developed by Japanese Buddhist priest, Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926). Dr. Usui spent the last years of his life healing people in Japan before passing his knowledge and teaching on to his students, including Dr. Chujiro Hayashi (1879-1940). After Usui’s death, Hayashi was said to have opened a Reiki clinic called, the Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu Kai (Hayashi Spiritual Energy Society). There is another Organization that exists, that is dedicated to preserving the original teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui called, the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.(*this information came to light in the late 1990s, as it was previously thought all the Reiki Masters had died in Japan during WWII)
In 1935 a young woman of Hawaiian/Japanese decent came to the Reiki Clinic from Hawaii, she was supposed to have a major surgery but opted to try Reiki first when relatives urged her to try it. She was Hawayo Takata (1900-1980), she was so impressed with the healing that took place in her that she fully recovered and did not need surgery at all. She begged to be able to learn Reiki and Hayashi eventually agreed to teach her. She worked in the clinic and lived with his family while undergoing the first 2 levels of training. She returned to Hawaii in 1937 and opened the first Reiki Clinic in the West. Hayashi and his family visited her and before leaving to return to Japan passed her final attunement so she would be able to teach and pass this healing art on to others (in 1938). By the time of her death, after traveling extensively through the US and Canada, and starting to attune level 3/Master level students in the 1970s, she had trained 22 Masters. These 22 Masters are who spread Reiki through out the Western World. After Takata’s death a group of her Master students met in Hawaii in 1982 to discuss how Reiki should progress. Takata’s granddaughter Phyllis Lei Furumoto was agreed on by most to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps and become the next “Grand Master”. Soon after this Dr. Barbara Weber Ray (one of Takata’s Master students) broke away to found her own system of Reiki called, The Radiance Technique, which she later renamed “Real Reiki”. But during the coming together of the Masters, they also compiled their knowledge and devised a more standardized system of teaching; because up till this point all teaching had been Oral for the most part. Students were sometimes allowed to take notes but they were not supposed to write out the symbols and most of what was taught varied. This meeting created the, Western tradition of Usui Reiki, and standardized the way the 4 symbols were taught (though there is still some variations depending on your Master and how they were taught). In 1983 the Reiki Alliance was formed in British Colombia. This organization recognized Phyllis Lei Furumoto as the “Grand Master,” and whose purpose is to support each member as teachers of the Usui System of Reiki. Before 1988, Physllis Furumoto as “Grand Master” was the only Master allowed to train other Masters (before her only, her grandmother, Takata was allowed to train Masters), but at a gathering that year in Fredricksburg she announced that any suitably experienced Master could teach other Masters; leading to an explosion of Reiki Practitioners continuing into today.
How Reiki Was Discovered; Takata’s Version:
This is the story I was taught (though even then I was like, Yea right! This can’t be right) and the story that Takata told to make Reiki more welcoming to the West and Christians. This is the story that is told in most Western Reiki classes, even to this day:
Dr. Mikao Usui was a learned scholar and Christian Priest who taught at a Seminary (oh but wait…wasn’t Christianity banned in Japan at this time? Yes it was, which is why I call this “history” a story). One day he was asked by a student how Jesus healed with his hands. It is said that this inspired him the rest of his life to find out how Jesus and Buddha had been able to heal with touch. He was said to have traveled widely and learned other languages in order to research both Christian Scriptures and Buddhist teachings, including Japanese and Sanskrit Sutras. He finally ended up at a Zen Buddhist Monastery where the Abbot there advised him to mediate and fast at the top of a special mountain to find the answer he sought.
He went to the top of a mountain and meditated and fasted, everyday he would stack a rock to mark the time he had been there, at the end of 21 days he had no answers and was frustrated. As he made his way down the mountain he was struck, in the 3rd eye area, with bubbles of light which had the sacred symbols in them, and he reached enlightenment in that moment. When it was over, despite his weakness after fasting for so long, he rushed down the mountain in his excitement. In doing so he tripped and injured his foot. When he bent down to hold his toe he found that the bleeding had stopped and the pain went away and he was healed. (this is the first “miracle” of Reiki) He made his way down the mountain and made it to an inn where he asked to be served a lot of food. Reluctantly the inn owner gave him the food, which he ate all of and did not get sick. (the second “miracle”) He then healed the tooth pain of the daughter of the innkeeper by placing his hands on her head. (this is the third and final miracle that proved Reiki’s healing powers) {There are variations on this story/the 3 miracles of Reiki depending on your teacher but the general story is the same} The story goes on that he spent time healing those for free on the streets, but after getting frustrated at seeing the same people over and over who were not trying to help themselves but only seeking a quick fix; he opened a clinic and started to charge for his services to place a worth on the healing he did.
How Reiki was Discovered; information out of the East:
Some of Usui’s original students (who were well over 100 years old at the time) did survive WWII and have been interviewed but most were unwilling to talk to outsiders/Westerners as the prevailing culture in Japan is to keep sacred information away from outside/Western eyes. We do now know that Usui was born into a Samurai family in Taniai-mura (now Miyama-cho) in Japan on August 15, 1865 and that he began to study Buddhism at the age of 4, when he was sent to the local monastery school run by Tendai Buddhist monks. He studied martial arts from the age of 12–including Aiki Jutsu and Yagyu Ryu, an ancient healing technique that is a combination of mindful targeted breathing, simple flowing movements and restful poses (it is similar to the Chinese martial art and balancing system, Qigong). He also learned meditation and healing there.
He held many jobs in his adult life including; a position as a government officer, a business man, journalist, and for a time he was secretary to the Mayor of Tokyo, and he also did charitable work in prisons. Although he is referred to as a Buddhist priest, in effect he was a lay Tendai priest called a Zaike, so he did lead a normal life with a wife and children. He is said to have studied other forms of Buddhism, including Shingon, Mahayana (Mikkyo) and Zen, as well as Shinto.
As part of his lifelong study of Buddhism, he would have been working towards Spiritual Enlightenment, and in his memorial confirms that he had an experience of mystical enlightenment on Mount Kurmara near Kyoto. The date is uncertain, as some sources suggest 1922, although 1914 is quoted in some Japanese books seems to be quite possible, as he appears to have begun teaching some aspects of his healing system in 1915 and to have become a widely known as a healing perhaps as early as 1917. (so Reiki has been around roughly 100 years)
What we do know is that after advice from one of his Buddhist teachers, he decided to undergo shyu gyo, a strict spiritual discipline involving meditation and fasting for 21 days, until he either died or became enlightened. On the last morning of his his fast he experienced, “a great Reiki over his head” (a direct quote from Usui’s memorial), which enabled him to become enlightened, and to acquire the ability to access healing energy (Reiki) and to pass this ability on to others. Usui then spent a few years before his death on March 9, 1926, practicing and teaching his healing system–Usui Reiki Ryoho or Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method.
His memorial states, “If Reiki can be spread throughout the world it will touch the human heart and the morals of society. It will be helpful for many people, not only dealing disease, but the Earth as a whole.”
Levels of Reiki:
In the West– there are traditionally 3 levels, though I have talked to others (specifically trained in the UK) that underwent 12 levels of Reiki training, sometimes condensed into 6.
Level 1: you will learn the history of Reiki, what it is, how to use it, and be attuned to use it. {attunement essentially means having your energy channel connected to the Source of Reiki energy so you can channel it with ease}
Level 2: you should review everything again and you will learn 3 of the 4 Reiki symbols. You will also receive your second attunement.
Level 3 aka Master level: you will receive your final attunement and the master symbol, and you will learn how to teach and pass attunements yourself.
Recently there has been an upsurgence of workshops that teach all three levels in one weekend course. This is too much energy too quickly in my opinion and you really don’t learn everything. You should be allowing at least 21 days between level 1 and level 2 attunements; 3 days for the energy to clear out and integrate each of the 7 major energy centers. From level 2 to level 3 you should allow at least 6 months for the energy to clear out and integrate with your systems. And after your Master or level 3 attunement this will be a constant process for the rest of your life.
In the East–in the Usui tradition reiki is taught based off the 3 Pillars of Reiki, Gassho, Reiji-Ho, and Chiryo. And does include 3 main levels of learning; these are Shoden, Okuden, and Shinpiden. But there is a lot more hands on learning and you are expected to apprentice and come to small reiki meetings where students would receive Reiju (empowerments, basically mini attunements).
Shoden: The purpose of this level is to learn to sense Ki, cultivate Ki, and use this knowledge to ground and heal the self. When proficient in all the aspects of this level they would be invited to progress to Okuden.
Okuden: is divided into 2 parts. Okuden-Zenki and Okuden-Koki, the student only progresses to the second level when the teacher felt they were ready. This level is about strengthening students’ ability to channel. Okuden-Zenki focuses on a combination of meditation and cleansing techniques. Okuden-Koki focuses on a method of releasing toxins and teaches ways of Reiki through breathing and sending it with the eyes.
Shinpiden: the purpose of this level is to focus on furthering personal spiritual development and learning how to pass on the system of reiki to others. Though very few students are committed to this or make it to this point as the above can take years/a life time and only the most committed and experienced students are asked if they want to progress this far.
There is mention of a further commitment that can be made after this level called, Shihan, which means teacher, and they would be expected to make a life long commitment to the the Reiki Journey.
Since the late 1990s we’ve slowly been getting more information out of the East on the Reiki tradition there and I hope one day to visit a clinic and study there. The Reiki traditions in the east are more focused and require one to place a greater commitment to Reiki in their life than the Western tradition does. It also requires apprenticeship and longer periods of time between degrees (levels). The main difference besides teaching methods is the focus on spiritual growth and meditations as well as it being an apprentice based learning system, where you might have that some in the West it is not the norm any more.
So this is the basic history of Reiki which is roughly 100 years old! I hope you enjoyed this information dump. Feel free to comment or contact me for more information or if you have questions (ps: this is not all the info but this is a good basis for those who are interested in Reiki and it’s history)
I will be making another post on, what you can do with Reiki/how to use it.
Since I’ve seen a lot of misinformation and also talked to a lot more level 1 and 2 Reiki practitioners about their education and attunements recently; I’ve noticed that there isn’t enough out there about Reiki that is actually talking about the history and what Reiki is and how it came into being. In the West– there are traditionally 3 levels, though I have talked to others (specifically trained in the UK) that underwent 12 levels of Reiki training, sometimes condensed into 6.
Level 1: you will learn the history of Reiki, what it is, how to use it, and be attuned to use it. {attunement essentially means having your energy channel connected to the Source of Reiki energy so you can channel it with ease}
So there has been a bit of “what if humans were the weird ones?” going around tumblr at the moment and Earth Day got me thinking. Earth is a wonky place, the axis tilts, the orbit wobbles, and the ground spews molten rock for goodness sakes. What if what makes humans weird is just our capacity to survive? What if all the other life bearing planets are these mild, Mediterranean climates with no seasons, no tectonic plates, and no intense weather?
What if several species (including humans) land on a world and the humans are all “SCORE! Earth like world! Let’s get exploring before we get out competed!” And the planet starts offing the other aliens right and left, electric storms, hypothermia, tornadoes and the humans are just … there… counting seconds between flashes, having snowball fights, and just surviving.
To paraphrase one of my favorite bits of a ‘humans are awesome’ fiction megapost: “you don’t know you’re from a Death World until you leave it.” For a ton of reasons, I really like the idea of Earth being Space Australia.
Earth being Space Australia
Words cannot express how much I love these posts
Alien: “I’m sorry, what did you just say your comfortable temperature range is?”
Human: “Honestly we can tolerate anywhere from -40 to 50 Celcius, but we prefer the 0 to 30 range.”
Alien: “……. I’m sorry, did you just list temperatures below freezing?”
Human: “Yeah, but most of us prefer to throw on scarves or jackets at those temperatures it can be a bit nippy.”
Other human: “Nah mate, I knew this guy in college who refused to wear anything past his knees and elbows until it was -20 at least.”
Human: “Heh. Yeah everybody knows someone like that.”
Alien: “……. And did you also say 50 Celcius? As in, half way to boiling?”
Human: “Eugh. Yes. It sucks, we sweat everywhere, and god help you if you touch a seatbelt buckle, but yes.”
Alien: “……. We’ve got like 50 uninhabitable planets we think you might enjoy.”
“You’re telling me that you have… settlements. On islands with active volcanism?”
“Well, yeah. I’m not about to tell Iceland and Hawaii how to live their lives. Actually, it’s kind of a tourist attraction.”
“What, the molten rock?”
“Well, yeah! It’s not every day you see a mountain spew out liquid rocks! The best one is Yellowstone, though. All these hot springs and geysers from the supervolcano–”
“You ACTIVELY SEEK OUT ACTIVE SUPERVOLCANOES?”
“Shit, man, we swim in the groundwater near them.”
Sounds like the “Damned” trilogy by Alan Dean Foster.
“And you say the poles of your world would get as low as negative one hundred with wind chill?”
“Yup, with blizzards you cant see through every other day just about.”
“Amazing! when did you manage to send drones that could survive such temperatures?”
“… well, actually…”
“… what?”
“…we kinda……. sent……….. people…..”
“…”
“…”
“…what?”
“we sent-”
“no yeah I heard you I just- what? You sent… HUMANS… to a place one hundred degrees below freezing?”
“y-yeah”
“and they didn’t… die?”
“Well the first few did”
“PEOPLE DIED OF THE COLD AND YOUR SOLUTION WAS TO SEND MORE PEOPLE???!?!?!?”
My new favorite Humans are Weird quote
“PEOPLE DIED OF THE COLD AND YOUR SOLUTION WAS TO SEND MORE PEOPLE?”
aka The History of Russia
aka Arctic Exploration
aka The History of Alaska
Being from Alaska, this was sort of how I felt going to college in the lower 48′s and learned that no one else had been put through a literal survival camp as a regular part of their school curriculum, including but not limited to:
1. Learning to recognize all forms of animal tracks in the wild so you can avoid bears and moose and search out rabbits and other small animals to eat.
2. Extensive swimming and climbing on glacial pieces with competitions to see who could last the longest, followed by a group sit in the sauna so we wouldn’t get hypothermia (no, not kidding, I really did this many times as a kid!)
3. How to navigate using the stars to get back to civilization.
4. How to select the right type of moss from the trees to start a fire with damp wood (because, y’know, you’re in a field of snow. Nothing is dry.)
5. How to carve out a small igloo-like space to sleep in the snow to preserve body heat and reduce the windchill so you won’t freeze to death in the arctic.
“I’m telling you, I don’t think we need to worry about territory conflicts with the humans. You know all those deathtrap hell-worlds in the Argoth Cluster?” “Those worthless rocks? Yeah.” “80% of them are considered ‘resort destinations’ by those freaky little primates.”
“I’m telling you, they terraform for fun!” “Don’t be ridiculous” “No, seriously. Some of their most celebrated cultural loci are built on swamps. They have an entire city that is literally in a body of water. Not, like, an artificial pontoon city, they literally sunk the foundations into water. For Grilp’s sake, they build elaborate structures out of frozen water AND THEN SLEEP IN THEM.” “Dear Thilak. Think we could get them to terraform our moons?” “Psh, they’d probably pay for the privilege.”
Eventually, it occurs to someone that humans are the perfect terraforming shock troops, as it were. They think it’s fun to be sent to horrible planets! They’re really good at surviving and then taming them! All you have to do is sit back and wait until the planet is habitable, and then move there yourself! It’s genius.
It only takes one try before the reality of the situation sets in: human definitions of ‘taming’ and ‘habitable’ are woefully incomplete.
“Why did you not eliminate the venomous plant life?” Grahssk’ti moans, clutching one limb.
“Those?” The human laughs. “Why bother? They’re not that bad. And they eat the mosquitoes.”
Grahssk’ti shudders. The ‘mosquitoes’ are… not to be mentioned. Just one swarm of them caused a landing shuttle to crash three planetary daylights ago.
“And the acid storms? Why did you not warn us of them?”
“I mean, they’re annoying,” the human says, shrugging, “but we figured the cool sunsets made up for it.”
Grahssk’ti flails helplessly. “What about the ten-meter tall Fanged Death Bringers? They can eliminate an entire settlement in under an hour!”
“They’re so cute!” the human says, brightening. “Have you met mine? Her name is Spot!”
Humans are told of some planet or region of space that is considered “completely and utterly inhospitable – it would be folly to try and settle there.”
Without fail, a decent number make it a point to settle there because “Fuck You That’s Why.” It doesn’t matter how uneconomical it is, how difficult the conditions are, how utterly ridiculous it may seem, there will be at least one human who will attempt to do it only because someone else regardless of species says it is improbable or WORSE impossible.
“This moon is still forming as such it is primarily soft – by that I mean most of the magma is close to the surface and-”
‘OH BADASS you mean its like Mustafar right!?!?!?! I’m totally going to build a castle there.’
“What. I mean. There is NO fertile ground there whatsoever. No ecosystem. It is molten rock and minerals only.”
‘Which will make my castle there look METAL AS FUCK am I RIGHT!?!??! Come on. COME ON. I TAUGHT YOU HOW TO FISTBUMP COME ON.’
“….you….you are going to die, you know this right?”
‘I’m getting the feeling you don’t want to come to Lava Castle for some reason?’
“Listen, lad. I’ve built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was molten magma. All those aliens said I was daft to build a castle on a molten planet, but I built it all the same, just to show ‘em. It sank into the magma. So, I built a second one. That sank into the magma. So I built a third one. That spontaneously combusted, turned to ash, then sank into the magma. But the fourth one stayed up. An’ that’s what your gonna get, lad – the strongest castle in this solar system.”
“I’m gonna need for you to explain ‘hurricane parties’ to me again. You humans have the technology to track these apocalyptic storms of wind and rain and predict where on the landmass they’ll hit up to a week in advance. And you…have social gatherings during them?”
“Well yeah, but only up to about Category 3 strength. Then it’s time to pack the car and head inland for most people, although a few hardy souls stick around and ride them out.”
“Oh good. Category 3 is what again? Winds up to 75 kilometers per hour?”
“No no, Category 3 starts at 175 kilometers per hour. You left off the one.”
It can be difficult to do witchcraft and connect to nature when stuck in a supremely urban area such as a downtown of a major city where even parks are hard to come by and collecting items there could be considered vandalism. This masterpost is to help all of you stuck witches who wish to be Forest Witches, connect with the forest or use forest related magic despite your urban setting.

Making Your Own Sanctuary
Let’s start with the simple beginnings of turning your home a bit more foresty so you can have your own sanctuary of nature in your home. Whether this be an altar, a corner of a room or even a full room is up to you and the amount of space you have to work with. In my post here I will be referring to setting up a space that would be considered big enough to sit in for meditation and spells and altar space, if you have more room than that feel free to definitely expand it!
Simply clear out some space, make some room so you can comfortably practice without risk of knocking anything over or causing safety issues for yourself (such as when candles are burning). Now in this space it’s time to decorate it and set it up to feel like a nice little cut of forest placed in the comfort of your home.
Things to consider adding to your space: branches and leaves, acorns, pinecones, walnuts (in the shell), tablecloths/altar cloths with forest, leaf or tree prints on them, photos and art of the forest, antlers, deer/elk skulls/teeth, fur (legally obtained), feathers (legally obtained), and the colors brown, green and brown. Potted plants and moss are other wonderful ideas to keep in this space especially plants native to your state, if you are unable to keep large plants try some local herbs or moss.
If plants are still not an option for you to grow due to either just not having the skill for it or the time or just not being a good location for them for lack of sunlight or tight space, crystals and stones are always options as well. Any crystals or stones associated with earth are wonderful to use as well or ones that are either green or brown or a combination of the two. Some suggestions of crystals to keep in mind would be: Moss Agate, Green Calcite, Tiger’s Eye, Citrine, Emerald, Jet, Jasper, Peridot, Quartz, Petrified Wood, Botswana Agate, Dendritic Agate and Malachite are all wonderful stones to keep on an altar dedicated to nature and the earth.
Modernize your space a bit too if you wish, get some nice sounds of birds playing over some speakers or from your phone, set up some posters and images of nature and wildlife and add anything else that makes you think of the trees you love. It doesn’t matter what it is, all that matters is that it’s something that you find connects with your craft.
Grounding and Meditation
It is difficult to ground yourself with the forest when you are miles away from one, but it can be done inside your little forest corner/space. Cleanse yourself and your space as you see fit, light any candles or incense if you desire (make sure its not close to any cloth, paper or plants) and make it comfortable for you. Sit or lay down depending on what is best for you and your health needs, in a position that you prefer, remember this is no wrong way to set up for meditation. If you have a device near you play some sounds of wind, birds and ruffling of leaves to help you feel like you are in the forest. In each hand hold either some crystals associated to the forest or earth, some wood/sticks, a wand, rocks gathered from a forest or park or anything else that will help you feel connected to nature. Close your eyes and begin focusing the energy of your chest and stomach to spread through your body and connect yourself to the ground like roots. Imagine these roots being like that of a tree connecting you to it in the heart of a vast forest. Don’t forget to take deep breaths through your nose and release them out your mouth. Meditate as long as needed until you feel a deep connection and ready to do your craft.
Portable Forest Altars
For when you are on the go or traveling but need a bit of the forest in your pocket or bag, you can make yourself a portable forest altar. Portable altars are used by many witches who are on the go or just keep their craft secret. They are very easy to make and can be very convenient for when you need to cast a spell away from home.
First you will need a small container to carry your supplies in. Some witches prefer pocket sized things like small boxes that jewelry may come in, altoid tins or other small containers, other witches prefer journal sized ones inside boxes, plastic containers or tins. It really depends on what you will need and what you will personally be carrying it in. Whatever you choose to carry it in make sure its durable enough not to be crushed inside a purse or bag so that whatever is inside of it does not get damaged or ruined. Preferably make sure there is a way to close the container or tin you are using tightly, if needed tie it shut using ribbon or yarn to help prevent it from popping open inside your bags.
Now it’s time for the fun part of making your travel altar, selecting the items to go into it! Now depending on the size of your altar it will change what can fit into it, so feel free to play tetris a bit with what you are fitting into it. You want things to be a bit snug to prevent them bumping around and breaking but you don’t want it so tight that you can’t get anything out.
Some common things and suggestions to put into your travel altar: birthday candles, tealight(s), travel matches or lighter, crystal shards or small crystals, beads, packets of salt, packets of black pepper, dried herbs in small containers/bags, dried flowers, pine cones, acorns, leaves, branches/sticks, bark chips, tea, small sachets for on the go spells, images of animals or plants, feathers, small stones/rocks, runes and sigils written onto bark or paper, seeds and small figurines of animals or creatures.
For larger travel altars also consider adding: scissors, plastic or cloth baggies, small travel books on herbs, plants and/or trees, pocket notebook/sketchbook, pencils and pens, crystals and a portable wand.
Forest Witch Crafts, Spells and More
For this section I’m going to talk about a few at home crafts and spells that you can make and cast while in an urban setting once you have set up your space and gotten down your grounding. These crafts are all beginner friendly and can be done by entry level witches once they have gotten down grounding and centering their energy.
Forest Witch’s Ladder for Protection
You will need:
Twine
Scissors
7 Oak Branches/Sticks
2 Pine Sticks
Pine Cone
White Ribbon
Something to hang it from such as a repurposed clothing hanger or hook
Cut your twine to the lengths you desire it, though making sure all three are the same lengths. At the top tight a tight knot of your choosing, I usually use a simple square knot. Leave enough extra on one side of the knot to tie it to your hanger or hook. The rest of the twine should be long enough to allow you to work. Braid it in a simple 3 way braid before tying a tight knot, placing an oak branch below the knot (the pine are for the end) and snuggly securing it with the twine wrapping it in whatever way you feel fit. Secure it again with a knot pressed tightly below the branch and continue the braid. You may space out the branches however you like, whether they are close together or far apart. While braiding and securing branches, focus on the energy that is given off by the oak branches. Once you have secured all of the oak branches you add the pine branches until all branches have been secured into the braid. Use the bottom of your twine to begin securing the pine cone in whatever process you prefer, I am simple when it comes to my witch’s ladders so I often prefer to find a good section near the top of the pine cone and wrap my twine around it and secure it with a series of simple knots. Take your white ribbon and to close and finish your spell, tie a bow around the bottom part of the braid just above your pine cone.
Find a secure place in your bedroom or in any main room you spend most of your time in and hang it either upon the wall or on a door for protection. Every full moon it is recommended to cleanse and charge your Witch’s Ladder in the full moon’s light then rehang it in its place come morning.
Forest Poppets
These little poppets are easy to make using only a few items. Using an acorn or a pinecone for the head and if desired drawing a face to it and tying it either to some cloth, paper or sticks you can create a simple little doll for magickal workings.
Use these poppets to bring positive effects into your life. Create your doll and on some part of it write your name, initials or use a taglock such as a bit of hair tied to it. Different wood types will attract different things into your life. A few examples would be:
Apple: blessing, protection, love, inspiration
Ash: creativity, inspiration, healing, moving towards a goal
Cursing using these poppets can be quite easy too. Simply select a wood type with correspondences to the opposite of what you want for that person. Such as using cherry wood to remove romance from their life instead of bringing it in. To reverse after you have made the poppet and added the persons taglock, take black thread and bind them up tightly or use tape. Then seal the poppet into a jar and fill it with nasty things like muddy water, puddle water, black pepper, rotting vegetables/plants, dirt, etc and seal it tightly. Bury it in a dark place or keep it hidden away where it is is dark such as under sinks or in closets that are rarely used. To break the curse, open the jar, remove the poppet, cut the tape/thread and then dispose of the poppet properly.
Forest Witch Bath (from my bath post)
Supplies:
Pine Needles
Pinecones
Pine essential oil (2 drops)
3 bags of green or black tea
Green sachet
Mint
Cedar Chips
Green Candles (optional- tree or plant scented ones)
Steps: Light your candles and begin filling your tub. In you sachet add 1 part cedar chips and 1 part mint. Tie it shut and add to your bath as it fills. You may then add the pine needles to float freely or you may add them in a sachet as well. Add your two drops of pine oil once the tub is half filled to ensure it is well diluted in the bath. Add your tea bags into the water, line your tub with the pinecones and get in.
Note: essential oils can be harsh on certain skins, dilute the oil with a carrier oil and test on your skin to see if it affects you. If your skin is too sensitive for pine oil omit it from the spell.
Forest Witch Teas
There are several teas made from different trees that have several health benefits and magickal properties that are wonderful for spellcasting and overall forest witchery. A few helpful examples of these teas that are easy to purchase and find are listed below.
Pine Tea
Health: Health wise, properly gathered or purchased tea of this type is extremely good for you seeing as it is a ton of vitamin C. It is commonly used a vitamin C replacement for some individuals. It also has large amounts of vitamin A (though this one should be taken smaller amounts).
Correspondences: Pine corresponds mostly with endurance, strength, rebirth, celebration, and health
Willow Bark Tea
Health: Often referred to as “nature’s aspirin” or “the natural aspirin” willow bark tea is often used as a pain reliever for people and historically has been used for centuries. It is also often used for anti-inflammatory purposes. Though it can upset sensitive stomachs.
Correspondences: Willow trees often correspond with femininity, glamours, secrecy, invisibility, healing, sleep, fertility and emotional ties
Spruce Tea
Health: Spruce trees are very high in vitamin C making them great for immune systems and often used for vitamin supplements. Spruce needles are often used to soothe sore throats and coughs when made into a tea. It is also a great source of potassium.
Correspondences: astral travel, cleansing, purification, flight, creation, transformation, shapeshifting and ancient wisdom.
Deities of the Forest
This is a huge list of deities from different religions and mythology from around the world, none of which to my knowledge are closed religions. Stemming from the old Scots word, a “glamour” (always spelt with the British “ou”, as we are referring to the spell not the trait) is a kind of magickal spell or enchantment that a person casts upon an object, a person, or themselves to confuse, bewitch or obscure the senses of other observers. For instance, a pickpocket may use glamours as a means of assisting in the avoidance of detection, and a secret Witch may use a glamour to hide their spell supplies. Glamours are also one of the primary spells that the Fae Folk use to hide their presence, and also to make mischief and cause harm to intrusive or blundering humans who offend them.
Why have I never heard of this before?!
Probably because it’s not very flashy and, by its very nature, it’s centred around concealment. Glamours are very powerful, very useful spells, but they don’t involve love or money or luck or happiness and so they tend to be overlooked by most novice or self-taught Witches. They’re also quite hard to perfect, and so many more experienced Witches give up before they have mastered them.
They are simultaneously very simple spells to perform, but very difficult to perfect, as they require significant effort of Will and a lot of practice but if you achieve a true glamour it can be one of the most powerful spells in any Witch’s arsenal. It’s also worth noting, however, that glamours do not conceal things from machines. Machines like metal detectors, security cameras and proximity detectors don’t have minds, and as such they cannot be fooled by magick that affects the mind and how the brain perceives senses. They also work poorly on animals, especially cats. Do not try to fool a cat with a glamour. Dogs are often confused by glamours, but generally see through them with time, and snakes and lizards are completely immune as far as I can tell (since their minds are not concerned with things that glamours affect).
OK, but how do I cast a glamour?
The first step is, as with all spells, to decide to do it. Decide “I am going to cast a glamour”. Know it in your soul, know that what you will do is magick, it is a glamour, and that it’s purpose is to hide yourself. Glamours on yourself are generally the easiest to start with, because they are the easiest kind with which to tell when something needs improving.
Secondly, you must visualise strongly – and I mean REALLY strongly, let it consume your being – the purpose of the glamour. Fill yourself with the knowledge how how it will work, what it will do, how it will work. If you are looking for a glamour of imperception, whereby you attempt to make yourself hard to see by convincing the minds of people around you that you are utterly uninteresting and forgettable, fill yourself with that. Let to complete and utter truth of that ring through your head;
“I am forgettable, I’m not even here. You don’t remember me, I’m utterly boring, I’m just another part of the background. Everything about me is empty and dull. There is nothing here”
And similar such truths. Let your Willpower make them true, let their truth fill the world around you through the strength of your visualisation.
Thirdly, sustain it. This is the hardest step, but a glamour will only last for as long as it is sustained and remembered. If you are visualising a glamour on something that moves or changes (such as yourself) this can involve literally constant reinforcement – never ever stop thinking those reinforcing statements and pouring all your Willpower into them. For objects that are more static, for instance a chest containing spell supplies, this can simply involve a period of refreshment every evening whereby you place your hands upon it and refresh the enchantment you’ve placed upon the chest, reminding it of how completely ignorable and boring it is, reminding it that nobody will open it because nobody will care enough to try, that nobody will notice it because it’s so dull it’s not even there.
That seems REALLY hard, is there a simpler way?
The short answer is, no. This is why glamours are often quite unpopular – despite their obvious power and usefulness, the sheer effort of Will that goes into the construction of a glamour, and the amount of practice you need to get really good, can scare off a lot of Witches from truly persisting. Those who need glamours are often the only ones who are really any good at them – the best glamour-caster I have ever known developed her skill during her life as a pickpocket, when she used glamours to avoid getting caught. The simple fact that she has no criminal record attests to their efficacy! But, it took her a very long time to get that good, and most Witches simply don’t care enough to try.
However, I urge you to do so! It’s such a rewarding skill, even if only so that you can be the undisputed champion of paintball and laser tag in your friend group because nobody ever sees you in the shadows.
So there you are! The ancient, powerful, and mostly-overlooked art of glamours! I hope this helped all you lovely Witches!
– Juniper Wildwalk
Glamours are exceptionally useful and I strongly recommend learning them. 🙂
These are very fun to learn how to do. And for me (at least) a great way to practice the art of Glamour is to practice while in a mall or shopping center. I know one of my favorite glamours is envision myself becoming this massive and scary tank while walking through Walmart, so people get out of my way or move to the other side of the aisle. But an invisibility glamour can work wonders especially if you have late night classes and you need to get to your car after class and the area gets a bit sketchy after dark. It will help you go unnoticed (speaking from personal experience here).
Below is a list of helpful terms to know when working with gems and minerals. It includes terminology on various crystal shapes and forms. Terms specific to mineral shapes have “(form)” next to them for ease of reference.
Abundance (form): An abundance crystal consists of one long quartz crystal with many small crystals clustered around its base. Its function is to attract wealth and abundance.
Adamantine Luster: A particularly brilliant shine as shown by a specimen such as a diamond.
Amorphous (form): Amorphous crystals, such as obsidian, have no particular shape. Energy flows rapidly through and amorphous crystal as it has no rigid internal organization.
Aura: The subtle bio-magnetic sheath that surrounds the physical body, providing a protective zone that extends for about 18 inches to 3 feet from the body and contains information about a person’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual state of being.
Aura Crystal: A crystal specimen, usually of the quartz variety, that has been coated with metal (i.e. gold, titanium) in a vacuum chamber resulting in an iridescent sheen.
Ball (form): Balls are usually shaped from a larger piece of crystal and may have planes or flaws within them. They emit energy in all directions equally.

Simply put these are rules you put in place as a witch and spirit worker that all spirits working with you and residing around you are expected to follow and obey out of respect. They are like a contract that you have displayed out in the open for spirits to see. It is like posting the rules to the pool up for swimmers to look at, disobeying those rules may get you kicked from the pool and the same goes for your space and your House Rules. Spirits who disobey them are at risk of being asked to leave by you or other occupants of the house or even banished if need be.
Why have House Rules?
House Rules exist to protect you and other occupants of the home safe and make it clear to any spirit guests what is absolutely not allowed. Think of them as the first step of warding out those who you don’t want around, sure it may not deter spirits who are seeking to cause you trouble or harm but it can keep away those who you may just not get along with (though let it be noted House Rules are not a replacement for wards).
House Rules are a polite but authoritative way to make it clear your values as well. It is a good way to indirectly tell spirits in the area what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with. This can help prevent poor communication between you and your guests or even companions. You may use these rules to mark what areas of the house spirits are allowed to flock and where they are not welcomed, your personal ‘codes’ on behavior, who they may and may not interact with, who they may or may not take/borrow energy from etc.
What are some common House Rules?
There are quite a few common house rules that many witches or spirit workers have (of course not all have the same house rules) which are good ones to look at and take into consideration while making your own:
Where a spirit may NOT go (bathroom, personal bedroom, safe space, etc)
Who a spirit may NOT interact with (children, pets, roommate, grandparent, parent, etc)
Whether the spirit is allowed to touch you and/or others and the specific guidelines on this
If the spirit is or is not allowed to use your energy
Whether sexual advances are welcome or not
Things a spirit is NOT permitted to do (scare individuals, loom over others, harass pets, move or knock over things, etc)
How a spirit may interact with you and how they may NOT
Your needs and expectations (such as you come first with things, the spirit does not)
What are my House Rules?
As a good reference to some of you I thought it would be nice to post what my personal House Rules are currently. Note that they are sometimes flexible depending on what spirit I am working with.
WILLOW’S HOUSE RULES FOR SPIRITS AND COMPANIONS
You are NOT permitted into the bathroom without direct invitation
You are only allowed onto the bed without invitation
You are NOT allowed in (roommate’s name)’s or (sister)’s rooms/on their beds at all
You may interact with pet but only if it is positive interaction, harassing or scaring my pet on purpose is grounds for banishment
You may NEVER harm me, my pets or roommates, this will be taken extremely seriously
You may not touch or attempt sexual things (flirting, touching, seduction) to roommate or sister
You may only touch/flirt with me per spoken permission and on very specific grounds
NEVER make sexual touches or advances to me without FULL SPOKEN PERMISSION
ANY sort of racial slurs, sexual slurs, homophobic/biphobic/acephobic, or sexist behavior will be immediate grounds for banishment
You may not interact with anything burning (candles, incense, paper, etc) without spoken permission due to fire safety
When I or another is sleeping, unless it is an emergency, please do not disturb
Guests in house are to be left alone unless otherwise told via me AND the guest
No fighting, territorial disputes or hunting of others inside or around my home this is to be done elsewhere unless otherwise stated by me or in terms of emergency, self defense, etc
No making threats or insults to each other or other spirits unless otherwise told
Sarcasm is always welcome, but to be funny not to be mean or a bully
I am willing to allow you to feed off of my energy but you MUST ask first
Do NOT drain my energy when I am sleeping, ill or on my period unless I otherwise permit it due to these times being when even I am low on energy or uncomfortable sharing
I will ALWAYS put my health and comfort first, this is my home and so my rules, I will not accept abuse from any spirit towards me or any attempts at making my home life miserable or uncomfortable, you will banished without question
If you invite other spirits over be sure they too read and agree to these rules All who do not obey these rules may and can be asked to leave or banished from my home!
How do I come up with my own House Rules?
Well start with what makes you uncomfortable, things that you don’t want them doing such as touching you or invading private spaces. Take into consideration those you live with and what they would want, most roommates wouldn’t want strangers in their rooms right? So take that into consideration. If you have pets or children, take their safety and needs into consideration as well. Make sure you put your mental and physical health first in all cases. It is your home, so therefore they need to follow your rules. Them being there does not make them the boss, you are the boss.
How to post House Rules for spirits?
There are several ways, I personally post a few printed or written up copies around my personal spaces such as on my bedroom door, near my window, on my wall, in the stairwell and near the front door inside. Posting it nice and big in places for them to see is always a good way, similar to posting signs and rules in public spaces.
Another method is to write it up and burn it to ash and keep the ash in jars or containers near entry points of your property such as windows and doors. Some also bury the notices around their property either whole, folded or as ash so that entering spirits may sense them. Putting up astral rules via energy work onto your wards similar to giant signs placed onto walls is also an option. Really, choose whatever is convenient for you.
In Conclusion
Keeping House Rules for when you work with spirits or invite them into your home is a good way to ensure there is no miscommunication about Do’s and Don’ts in your home. It’s a good start to your own personal protection and the protection of others in your home. Keeping House Rules posted is very important so that all passing spirits can see it. Make sure to make it clear that all that break them will not be taken lightly and will not be welcomed back to your home.
When burning anything always keep a glass of water near you, unless you are working with burning oils, then keep a fire extinguisher or baking soda on hand.
When working with essential oils(EO), do not burn them they are highly flammable
Never leave anything burning unattended, be it a burn bowl, candle, incense. DON’T LEAVE IT!
Please remove anything flammable such as paper or string from the candle, it will ignite and you will be alarmed.
Make sure that what you’re burning your candle in is fire safe, metal and cast iron are good bets. Do NOT burn in a glass, if you have to put it out and dump water on it, it will explode.
Make sure you tie back loose hair and don’t have any floppy sleeves or necklaces to get in the way.
When putting out a candle it is best to use a candle snuffer and do not use water.
Don’t burn kitchen sage, it gives off a toxic smoke. Not something you wanna inhale.
Essential Oil Safety
Please, please dilute them properly. I have a chemical burn scar I can never get rid of due to undiluted cinnamon bark oil. The proper dilution is one drop per teaspoon.
Never ingest EO, there are some that are now generally recognized as safe by the FDA, but the quality of EO are not regulated. Who knows what a bad quality EO could do to your internal organs, not something I wanna test.
Essential Oils are photosensitive, meaning they deteriorate in light store them in a dark area to prevent them from spoiling.
DO NOT put them near on your skin and get in the sun or a tanning bed, especially citrus oils, they will blister.
Water will not dilute essential oils, only other oils(canola, olive, sweet almond, olive will all dilute). If you want to use them in a bath it is one drop per a teaspoon of oil.
Please seek medical attention if anything seems off after using EO, they seem harmless but can be very dangerous
Pets can be very sensitive to essential oils(particularly cats) and it is almost impossible to cover all my bases here. The sources provided below have some great resources.
Always go by the scientific name, German and Roman chamomile are very different products.
Kitchen Magic Safety
Wear shoes if you’re doing anything, I nearly lost a toe the other day cause I dropped a knife. I got lucky I was wearing boots.
Wear correct clothing, and tie back hair. No matter if you have a gas, electric or induction stove, I’ve caught a lab coat sleeve on fire thanks to a torch while making a creme brulee.
Use your knives correctly, learn about the pinch grip and use the correct knife for the job. Using a paring knife for chopping potatoes is asking for trouble. There are tons of videos online, I like the ones from Alton Brown and Jamie Oliver.
As a side note use sharp knives, a blunt knife will do more damage than a sharp one.
Don’t leave knives in the sink, someone could begin to wash dishes and cut themselves.
Watch the steam. Steam can give a worse burn than dry heat, open pot lids away from you and don’t stick your face and phalanges in steam.
Don’t leave food products unattended.
Use your damn pot holders, they protect you and your counters.
Store raw meat on the lowest shelves, and never store cooked meat on the same shelf
Wash your hands before, wash your hands after handling raw meats, wash your hands after.
Don’t leave food that is meant to be cold or hot out for more than 2 hours, this is to decrease foodborne illness.
When using the store turn handles in, to keep yourself from bumping them off the stove.
Cook meats to proper temps(there is a chart in the sources)
If you are using herbs be sure to use kitchen grade herbs, those that are not kitchen grade are not held up to the same purity standards and could have more pesticide residue.
Herbal Safety
Please be aware a lot of herbs can work against prescription medications, or should only be taken in very specific doses( St. John’s Wort I’m looking at you.) Check in with your doctor or a licensed herbalist or naturopath before ingesting herbs.
Crystal Safety
Identify your crystals, some are water solvent some are not and it matters
Some that aren’t safe in water include malachite and selenite. They have copper and if aren’t sealed they can become toxic. There is no way to know for sure if it was sealed or not keep -ite crystals dry as a good rule of thumb.
Some crystals fade in sunlight like rose quartz, amethyst and citrine, in order to prevent fading try cleansing them with sound, flower petals, moonlight and energy.
Alchemical Properties of Foods: Foodstuffs Classified According to Their Elemental Nature
Almonds are sacred to the gods Thoth, Hermes, and Mercury and are said to bring wisdom and prosperity by stimulating intuition and insight through the Third Eye Chakra. Magical wands are often made of almond wood. [Earth ++]
Apple, known as the Fruit of the Gods, is a very powerful source of spiritual energy that encourages balance and harmony. If cut horizontally, the apple reveals the pentagram pattern, which is considered the gateway to occult powers as well as symbol of the quintessence. The Egyptians offered apples to their highest and most powerful priests, whom they considered guardians of hidden knowledge. In the Middle Ages, sliced apples were used to foretell the future and eating them regularly was said to enable a person to live over 200 years. Modern clinical studies have proved that eating apples reduces cancer risk. [Air +++]

After getting more into the tumblr witchcraft scene, I’ve learned a LOT, and found some tech magic resources to help y’all so it’s time for an update of my previous What Is Tech Magic? post, now featuring how to actually do things! It’s gonna be long so here’s a friendly cut
What Is Tech Magic?
Tech magic(also known as techno magic by some) is magic using technology such as computers, phones, tablets, etc. It can be anything from a spell written into code to a sigil as your wallpaper to a ward using your WiFi router.
I personally started with tech magic for 2 reasons:
1. I love technology and have grown up using it
2. It’s really easy to keep hidden in ways both magical and mundane
Some basic, and extremely common, forms of tech magic that you may already be doing include:
Online BoS, grimoire, whatever you refer to you ~magical book thing~ as
Emoji spells
”Reblog to get money” type posts- A lot of people don’t realize it, but these are quite magical! We have the intent(money, luck, etc) and the energy(everyone who reblogs it adds their belief or hope, charging it)
How Can I Use Technology In My Craft?
Actually using technology for witchcraft isn’t all that difficult, but can be weird for traditional magic users, so here’s a quick “Getting Started Guide”:
Choose a piece of technology to use – while this step isn’t necessary, getting used to one object’s energy will help when starting out. I recommend something you already use a lot, such as your phone!
Feel its energy – Just sit and hold it(or touch it if it’s too big to hold) and let its energy flow through you and yours through it.
Practice manipulating it’s energy like you would with anything else, pull it in, push it out, etc.
Find a specific spell you want to use! If you are a closeted witch maybe try a hiding spell or something similar!
Do it!!! Do the spell!
Cleanse your electronics!!!! Like anything else, they can get bad energy, so make sure you cleanse them regularly!
Connect to more technology! I like streetlights personally, they have a strange energy.
Some Cleansing Tips
Bless/enchant your charger to cleanse while charging
Any normal cleansing method, smoke (don’t burn it!! Also idk about how smoke might affect the inner workings), Selenite, manually, etc. This seems like it should be obvious but Don’t Use Water My Dudes
A charmed background to auto cleanse!
Candle apps
Some other random tips
Putting your phone’s background to spells/charms/sigils is amazing. I once had a thing for “I find cool stuff at the thrift store” and immediately found a signed Fallout Boy poster. I live in a city with like maybe 50000 people? It was a salvation army too like that was high quality shit
Cocoppa? I think is the name? Is an Android app that will change the icons for Apps so do with that info what you will
Tech magic is just as valid as any other form and can be incorporated with other types!!!
Tech magic isn’t just phones! Computers, TV’s, anything electronic basically can be used!
Learning to code can add some boppin’ things to your craft that I don’t want to go into right now
Learning how to banish an entity is a very important skill to know in case you come across an entity that you want to send out of your space, and is a good way to protect yourself from spiritual entities that may come to try to do harm to you. There are many ways to go about banishing an entity, and in this post I will be going over a couple of them. I will also be giving tips that may be helpful. This is not an extensive guide by any means, but it’s definitely a stepping stone to understanding the processes that coincide with the banishment of entities.
Protecting yourself:
Protecting yourself is very important especially when you feel a presence that should not be in your space. Through the act of putting up shields you will help protect you’re so against them by putting up a wall of energy between the two of you, and by putting up wards anything that’s already on the inside out. This will give you time to come back to yourself, so that you can focus on what you should do next in order to deal with this entity. These shields, and wards do not have to be elaborate, and should be something you can call upon quickly when your safety is in question from spiritual forces. Practices like casting a circle, or the psychic bubble of light are very good for this, and will go through the process of keeping the entity at bay, while you can focus on what to do next. A simple way to put up a shield is to simply focus your energy around you, by visualizing it flowing off of your body much like mist, or light well thinking that you are protected, this will send your energy out from yourself forming a shield around your body through the power of your intention.
Learning more about the entity:
Learning more about the entity can teach you a lot about its reasons for wanting to hang around you in the first place, and will also help you decide if this entity is malevolent in any way towards you, or is just an entity that is naturally there, and not aggressive. Knowledge is power, and by you locking onto some of its key features such as its spiritual appearance, and it’s personality along with any other information you can gather from it, you will be able to interact with it more effectively. Knowing what you are dealing with before you deal with it can help the banishing process go more smoothly by allowing you to have the upper hand on it by knowing your enemy, or can help you realize that you don’t need your guard up around this entity, and can let it be, or ask it to leave.
Talking it out, and asking it to leave:
If the entity isn’t immediately aggressive you could always go through the process of talking to the entity to figure out why they are hanging around. They may just be passing through and not know that they are trespassing on your space, and you may be able to go through the simple process of asking them to leave. All you would really need to do in order to do this is to enter a meditative state, so that you would be able to hear, and recognize their communication with you, then you would just have to have a normal conversation with the entity. In this conversation you should figure out what their purpose for being in that space is, and see if you guys cannot come to a civil agreement. You may be able to ask it to leave, or it may just be allowed to hang around if it is not causing problems, but that’s all that really depends on the conversation that you guys have. If you cannot communicate with spiritual entities psychically you can always go through the process of using a divination process to divine their answers.
Demanding that it leaves:
If negotiations fail, and you have gone through the process of talking to it, or you feel that it will not listen to you, then it is time to demand it to leave. Through the power of your will, intention, and assertiveness you can force the entity out of your space by demanding out loud that at leaves. This intention will send your energy to force the entity out of your space. You can also go through the process of using there name in your demands in order to connect your will to it targeting it with your energy, if you do not have its name you can always go through the process of making one up for it. By first telling the entity that it’s name is this, and then using that name in your demands to tell it to leave. During this entire process you should be strong, and assertive, and should not waver under the entity in any regards in order not to give it power, and to put your intention through. If done correctly the entity should be forced from the space from your sheer energy, and willpower.
Forcing it out with energy:
You can also go through the process of using a more energetic method by visualizing your energy as fire, or light flowing to the entity blasting it with all that you have, by focusing on this vision in your mind’s eye, while projecting your energy forward will send it out in order to manifest your desire of sending the entity out of your space. This is a much better method if you feel that you are better with visualization, and energy work, and will allow you to enter a more trance-like state, while projecting your energy at the entity.
Forcing it out with items:
Certain items have banishing metaphysical properties that can be quite helpful in sending entities out of your space. These items can be natural such as herbs, and stones, or can be more man made things such as sigil, tailsman and amulets. By bringing these objects into the proximity of the entity with the intention of forcing them out you will begin to use them. This is a good way to go to the process of banishing the entity from your space with the incorporation of other objects. You could even go through the process of hard binding the entity to an object, then getting rid of the object with the entity bound to it. This will allow the entity to be bound to something, so that that something can be gotten rid of more easily.
Here is a list of some items that can help in the banishment of entities:
Holy water
War water
Holy books
Rosemary
Sage
Garlic
Dragon’s blood
Bloodstone
Black Salt
Salt
Smoky Quartz
Obsidian
Black pepper
Cloves
Jet
Sigil of banishment
Asking for help:
You can also go through the process of asking another practitioner for help in banishing the entity from your space, especially if you do not believe that you can handle it yourself. If you do not know any other practitioners you could always go through the process of asking a deity, or deities, or your spirit guides, or other higher power to banish the entity for you, or at least help you in the process of banishing the entity. This can help you out greatly, especially if you are not used to banishing entities, and want some extra help.
Other methods you could try for banishing entities:
Drawing the earth banishment pentagram in the air.
lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram
Gnostic pentagram ritual
Violet Flame
Sweeping to the east with a broom while having the intention that the entity leaves in your head.
Cleansing the area:
After the entity is all good in banished it is a good idea to go through the process of cleansing the area where they were at. This will relieve that space from their energies, and will get rid of any negative feelings, or residual energies that the entity had left there. This can be simply done through any cleansing method such as burning herbs, placing crystals in the space , clap cleansing, or any other cleansing method that you are aware of.
(a decoy acts as a “substitute” for you, which the curse will be redirected to instead of harming you; the decoy can then be cleansed or destroyed to remove the curse from it; sometimes you don’t get a choice and the decoy gets destroyed, and you have to make a new one if you still desire its protection)

Friendly reminder that Killing Stalking and other media that glorifies abuse especially towards lgbt individuals is problematic
When tf did it ’glorify’ abuse? It shows an abusive unhealthy relationship? Is that glorifying it?
Exactly. Showing an abusive relationship doesn’t mean glorification. By that logic, uncle toms cabin is racist and promotes slavery because the story *has* slavery….
To quote Lemony Snicket:
“I’m sorry, I’m at a loss on how to write a villain who doesn’t do villainous things.”
The mentally ill are much more likely to be victims of crimes. Sometimes their behaviors lead them to being more easily targeted for crimes, not through their intention but simply what they do or say and because sociopaths or manipulative people see them as easy targets that will likely not fight back or not know how to get help.
Killing Stalking portrays a mentally ill person who has found himself in the clutches of a sociopath. It is a “worst case scenario” situation because it’s not a mentally healthy individual who is being toyed with by Sangwoo who would be repulsed and terrified by his actions, but a mentally ill person like Yoonbum whose obsession with, and difficulty with consistently recognizing and acknowledging how *wrong* the actions of, Sangwoo thus makes it even more of a nightmare. You are a slave to your unregulated, illogical impulses brought about by your illness. He sees the danger and the threat but the malfunctioning parts of his brain still cling desperately to the idea that Sangwoo loves him. It’s not romantic, it’s pitiful and tragic and messed up in the same way that a person who is tortured to insanity by a villain ends up being their braindead slave. That’s what I get out of it as someone who fears that I will one day get in with a fucking serial killer due to my horrible judge of character and end up actually falling for them despite my better self telling me to haul ass out of there.
As a content creator and an animator who studied script writing and story development, you need some stories that are bad as in the characters are not good people. Without villains we cannot have good stories. And not all stories have happy endings, not all stories are happy. Look at the horror genre, that is a prime example of “problematic” stories and they have existed for centuries. Yes the story is about a very unhealthy abusive relationship, but it is not glorifying it, it is done in a way that is suppose to make you uncomfortable, on edge and scared. Its not romanticizing it as 50 Shades did, it is making it clear that this is not a healthy pair. And if people like them as characters, then they like them as characters. A good villain is a good villain, we like having people we hate. Bad guys have plenty of fans, look at Loki and Magneto, they are problematic for they have literally murdered people, many people. Yet I don’t see any call outs over them being problematic.
Just because a character is lgbta+ doesn’t mean anything, that doesn’t change who they are at the core. You can be good or evil no matter your sexuality or gender, and saying that a character who is bisexual cant’ be evil is absolutely ridiculous. Real lgbta+ people are abused, real gay men and gay women abuse their partners. So a depiction of someone abusing another bisexual man isn’t homophobic, that is just people jumping to conclusions. Abuse exists in all communities, and this shows the absolute darkest “worst case” of it.
If you do not like this sort of story, that is perfectly fine you can not read it. But, don’t bully or target others for it. “Problematic” media exists, and so does the block button.
someone created a random generator that creates randomized inspirational quotes overlaid on random images in a soothing fashion and each and every image is comic gold

Mine started off as an edgy teen so I kept trying.
-Some demons are really cool and make awesome friends!
-Some demons want to kill you and do bad things to you
-Along the same lines, hellbeings can be very nice or very mean
-Some spirits look scary but are actually very kind
-Some spirits look sweet/cute but actually want to hurt you in the worst ways
-Not everything is black or white, evil or good, apples or bananas. Sometimes spirits can be in between, or off the charts completely.
-(The previous statement applies to their moral alignment, their ethics, their friendliness, their desire to hurt humans, and pretty much anything else)
-Spirit work is really fucking dangerous, but there are ways to be safe.
-Yes, spirits can affect your physical body. It happens, good or bad.
-Wards. Look up warding. Get a good handle on warding before you start practicing spirit work.
-Spirits are actual beings, which means that they have thoughts, feelings, and lives outside of you and yours.
-Safety should probably be your #1 priority in spirit work, unless you really have a death wish for yourself (or enjoy being in immense pain… I’m not going to judge)
-Spirits and spirit work are probably going to be different than your expectations.
-The spirit world is much different than ours, but can also be quite similar!
-Once you start working with spirits, more tend to show up. You kind of send out a signal that attracts other spirits once you flip that spirit working switch to the on position. Not all of them are going to be friendly.
-Spirits can be dirty lying decievers, but they can also be your best and closest friend, depending on which ones you meet. And sometimes you’ll think a spirit is ur best friend just to find out, days/months/years later, that they’re actually a dirty lying deciever! Don’t trust them right away!
It used to be fully understood that the same rules to do not apply to every species of spirit. Of course they wouldn’t. it would be ignorant to think that right? Yet spirit workers do it everyday and harass those who don’t fall in line with their misguided rules. You saw the title of this post, you know what this is about, spirits and the topic of names. Everyone knows the faerie rule that you don’t tell faeries your name and you don’t ask for theirs, instead you ask what you may call them and tell them what they may call you. This way you are not lying by saying ‘my name is -insert false name’ and you aren’t giving them you real name. Now not all fae will use your name against you somehow, some don’t care, but it is always better to be safe then sorry. This is all understandable and reasonable. This is something people have said about faeries for a long, long time, yet this is where the lines start to get blurred and people loose their heads. Faeries rules only apply to faeries.
It’s what makes it a faeries rule. You wouldn’t assume an angel’s culture, rules, and the way you work with them is the same as a vampires, so why is this the exception? When did it stop becoming a faerie rule are start becoming a spirit work rule that causes you to get attacked if you don’t follow it. I will be honest with you, I don’t know. I think it may have something to do with the topic of summoning and spirit stealing. While it isn’t as big of a problem as people like to act like it is there are those small few assholes that can and will steal people companions. Why? Usually out of some misguided sense of justice. We all know the type, the spirit worker who acts like their life is a YA novel and that they have to save spirits from the evil clutched of tumblr usesr faeriewhispers33 (i don’t know if that’s an actual user i just made it up). Anyway, it leads to people being paranoid. More and more you see posts along the lines of ‘NEVER POST YOUR SPIRIT COMPANIONS NAME’ and ‘DONT TELL SPIRITS YOUR NAME’ and they always use the faerie rule to back up their argument, suddenly it’s no longer out of fear that someone will use your companions name as a way to summon them and steal them from you now it’s for your safety.
Here the thing, it’s almost impossible to keep a spirit from learning your name if you work with them outside of the astral. Most spirit workers love to work with their companion in their home, it’s easier then astral travel. Yet there are dozens of people in your life that could metaphorically ‘spill the beans’ just by greeting you or calling you for dinner. It is impossible to keep something as simple as your name a secret. This may shock you a bit but, most spirits don’t care what your name is. Why? because they aren’t faeries and these rules don’t apply to them.
Now on the topic of your companions names. Some people don’t say their companions names publicly because that is the spirits preference, most people have a nickname for their companion in these cases but let me share a secret with you. The chance that your companions name is a name that exists in the human language is slim and 50% of the time the name you are given is a nickname. Not because the spirit doesn’t trust you with their name, but because their name is not translatable or pronounceable in our language. This is also why a lot of people who attempt to use a Ouija board to get a spirits name get a button mashed fuckery of random letters that make no sense. I can guarantee your companions name isnt KXGJA. Now there are a few times where the name can be translated and it does manage to match up with a human name or just something pronounceable. So while you should respect your companions wishes and keep their name a secret if they want, even if it’s a nickname, don’t jump to conclusions and attack those whose companions couldn’t care less.
I am not threatening my companions by using their ‘names’ on the internet, they don’t care. If they did care, I wouldn’t do it. In case it wasn’t clear enough.
