Types of Herbal Remedies

I’ve compiled a list of types of herbal remedies, with brief instructions on how to make them. Choose your herbs carefully, as some are poisonous, some will interfere with health problems and medications, and some can cause allergic reactions.

If you are concerned about any health issue you have, or worried about herbs reacting with your medications, go talk to your doctor. This post is not intended as medical advice.

Compress

This is usually cloth that has been soaked in a herbal infusion so that it can be applied topically. Useful for skin issues, muscle pain, joint pain, and general aches.

You can make one by soaking cotton wool in a warm infusion of your choice, wrapping the balls in a piece of clean cloth, and applying to the affected area. Once the cloth cools down you can soak it again in the warm tea and reapply.

Infusion

This is basically the herbalist term for tea. The herbs are usually dried and ground before being steeped in very hot water and then strained out. If you use a bag then you can skip the straining.

Tincture

This is similar to an infusion but much stronger, and with alcohol instead of water, which helps to preserve it.

Put your herbs in a jar. Cover them with alcohol (most people I know use vodka). Put the lid on the jar and shake it daily for a month or so, then strain the herbs out. I tend to keep mine in the little dropper bottles, as you normally don’t need to take much at once.

Decoction

I like to think of these as a stronger infusion. You need four times as much boiling water as dried herb, and you want to simmer the mixture for about half an hour before straining.

Syrup

These are herbs mixed with a sugary substance, which makes them easier to consume and helps to preserve them a little. They’re a good way to get your herbs in if you have a sore throat, as they are often quite soothing.

You’ll need a couple ounces of fresh herb per pint of water. Put them on the stove and heat until about half of the water has evaporated. Then you need to add about five tablespoons of sugar/honey/maple syrup per pint of water you used originally (so if you put two pints in the pan, you need ten tablespoons). Keep stirring for about twenty minutes, then take it off the heat and bottle it up. You need to keep syrups in the fridge, preferably in a dark coloured jar or bottle.

Balm

Essential oils and beeswax, basically. Add about twenty drops of essential oil to a cup of melted beeswax, stick it in a jar, let it cool, and there you go! You can mix in juiced herbs if you like, but that’s optional.

Salve

A salve is basically essential oils mixed with beeswax, oils and herbs. I have seen them made with coconut oil, though if you live in a warmer environment then coconut oil won’t work for you as it melts. You need about fifty/fifty dried herbs and beeswax (if you live somewhere warm) or use a mixture of beeswax and an oil like olive or safflower if you live somewhere colder, just so it’s soft enough to use. Use about twenty drops of oil per cup of beeswax. You’ll need to melt the wax in a double boiler, and let the herbs infuse in the molten wax for about half an hour. Then you add your essential oils, and pour the molten salve into the containers and let it cool.

Ointment

This is basically a liquid balm or salve. Follow the methods above, but use oil instead of beeswax.

Bath

When taking a herbal bath, you are basically making a giant cup of tea! Fill an organza bag with your chosen herbs, and put it in the bath while you run the water, then remove it before you get in. You can reuse the bag of herbs, but they lose potency with each use, so I try to avoid doing this.

Poultice

This is a paste of herbs and sometimes other things that is applied to the skin. Used for infections, splinters, burns, boils etc. They’re pretty simple to make, you just mix some dried herbs with a tiny bit of boiling water to form a paste, put it on the area, and use a piece of cloth or gauze to keep it there. If you want to use fresh herbs you just mash them up.

A Witch’s Ingredients: Charcoal

Charcoal is what is left over after burning wood in a fire or other plant material that has been used in not only witchcraft but medicine and art for centuries. This ingredient is often a well forgotten or overlooked one, but it is truly an easy obtainable ingredient to harness for your craft.

The Basics

Elements: Charcoal is often related to 3 main elements- Fire, Earth and Air. Often it is related to earth due to the charcoal being created from wood, air due to the porous light nature and its relation to smoke and to fire due to fire being the energy that creates and transforms it. Though often most associate charcoal with fire.

Correspondences: Unity, Purification, Banishing, Cleansing, Protection, Warding, Concentration

Colors: Black, Gray, Ashen White

The History of Charcoal Use

In Witchcraft

In witchcraft charcoal was often used for ink making to write in grimoires by mixing the charcoal (or ash) with water and vinegar. Sticks of charcoal were used for drawing, inscribing and warding. Crushed charcoal would be mixed into salt to create black salt and casted about the home or property to absorb negative energies and ward against negative entities. Lining windows or doorways with charcoal dust was said to keep away illness and misfortune and cleanse those who entered the home.

In Medicine

Charcoal has been used in medicine for centuries, some of the latest uses dating to the times of Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt. In ancient times it was often used to prevent wounds from festering by pressing charcoal into the wound and wrapping it with clothe. Egyptians and Native Americans both have history of grinding up charcoal into dust to mix with water (or milk) to drink to cure a number of ailments including food poisoning, influenza, stomach cramping and other digestive issues.

Throughout Europe charcoal was used as a ‘cure all’ for numerous ailments including epilepsy, seizures, contraception and infection. Though charcoal definitely isn’t a cure all, it was popularly used to help settle upset stomachs, calm vomiting and aid in digestion. Later several doctors discovered the use of charcoal to counteract poisons by ingesting it with a poison, greatly nullifying the effects of the poison making them minimal in nature. During the 1800s was when activated charcoal became the main type of charcoal used for medical purposes.

Modern Uses of Charcoal

In Witchcraft

Modernly, charcoal is still used for many of the same things. Witches of all kinds use charcoal for sigil drawing and for circle casting and a sorted few still use charcoal to create ink and paint for their grimoires and spell writing.

Black Salt is still popularly made by witches by mixing salt with charcoal (1:1). Black salt is used to absorb negative energy, banish out negative entities and to ward against unwanted guests entering your home. Black salt is often used to line entry points of the home or the outlines of the property to ward and to cleanse a room or home spreading it about the home then sweeping or vacuuming it up after about an hour is the popular technique. Often charcoal is used in sachet spells to help boost their energy and prevent them from getting ‘dirtied’ by negative energy too quickly similar to adding salt to a spell sachet or even jar spells. It can also be placed or used in a spell to represent the element of fire or upon an altar for the same purpose.

In Cosmic Witchcraft it is common to use charcoal to align with the planet Saturn and sometimes Jupiter. Often it is used in spells related to justice, cleansing and ridding oneself of negativity. The blackness of charcoal can also be used to represent the blackness of the night sky itself or to represent black holes in negativity removal spells.

In Bath magick it is popular to use charcoal face masks, charcoal soap or charcoal bath salts to help cleanse oneself and remove negative energies tied to them. Glamor spells using charcoal often are for concealment and to vanish from the gaze of those who you wish not to see you such as protection at night or protection from judgement. In these cases charcoal is often added to sachets or small travel jar spells for invisibility or used for drawn sigils held on the person.

Artist’s charcoal can be used to replace standard charcoal in spells such as making black salt or for the purpose of sigil making. Though artist’s charcoal should never be used in cases of bath magick or to be ingested due to safety reasons. Grilling charcoal should never be used in place of natural charcoal due to it being often mixed with gasoline or other lighting fluids. It is not safe to get onto the skin and certainly not to ingest under any circumstances.

Medical Purposes

Charcoal is still used today for medical uses of calming stomachs and easing digestive issues though mostly activated charcoal is used now. One should not ingest wood charcoal straight from a fire! Especially not if lighter fluid or kerosine was used in the fire. If one wishes to use charcoal for medical use at home purchase it properly from a pharmacy. Charcoal is still used in hospitals for its properties of absorbing toxins ingested such as when a person has alcohol poisoning or believed to have ingested poisons, this again tends to be a mix of activated charcoal.

Health and Beauty

In skin care charcoal is used to replenish and cleanse the skin, often used for clearing out pores of bacteria, dirt and sweat to help fight and prevent blackheads and acne. It is often used in facial masks of varying kinds due to its properties of clearing out the skin, these types of masks include but are not limited to: charcoal peeling masks, charcoal mud masks, charcoal cotton masks, charcoal bubbling masks and more. This is also why charcoal soap is quite popular for those wishing to cleanse their skin. The charcoal used in these beauty masks is a type of activated charcoal though it is often mixed with several other ingredients to fight acne and blackheads.

Lunar Eclipse Water 🌕🌞

lunaesteria:

Lunar Eclipse water can be used for matters involving

illumination, revealing secrets, unveiling hidden knowledge, healing, protection, and divination.

Items:

  • Clean, clear container
  • Water (the source doesn’t matter)
  • Optional: a sigil or statement of intent written on paper

Instructions:

  1. On the day of the lunar eclipse (August 7th), fill your container with water and set outside or in your windowsill before the peak of the eclipse (the time will depend on your location)
  2. Program the jar to absorb energy from the eclipse – you can use visualization to accomplish this, or set the jar on top of the sigil/statement I mentioned above
  3. Remove the jar before the eclipse ends and store in a cool, dark place

Note: this eclipse will only be visible to those who reside in Australia, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Anti Impulsive Purchase Pouch

As someone who often makes impulsive buying decisions with an ungodly amount of money I don’t have, I needed to find a solution to make me stop.

I usually buy new things when I feel lonely or stressed – kind of a way to fill the emptiness. Waiting for all the new stuff to arrive is such an amazing feeling, but… once I hold them in my hands, I feel just as empty as before, while feeling horrible for spending so much money.

That’s why I had this little idea of making a little “Anti Impulsive Purchase Pouch”, to remind myself that it’s not always necessary to buy new things, and I wanted to share this little ‘ritual’ with you.

Materials I used:

Let me tell you one thing first!

This little pouch isn’t about a set amount of items that you’ll have to put inside. It’s about you becoming creative with whatever you have at home, so you won’t need to spend any money to do so.

I’ve opened all my drawers and digged out several items I found fitting for this very cause, and this was the first step in understanding something important:

“I own so many things and I don’t even realize that.”

That’s right – sometimes we only look at items we don’t have and feel the urge to buy these, but we often forget all these stunning items we already have at home.

So here is what I found for myself:

  • A silvern pouch in which I put all my items. If you don’t have a pouch, you can just use an old sock, or an old shirt, or whatever else you can find! It’s all about creativity, and making the best out of it!
  • A few coins I’d found, because this is all about being aware of how much money I spend, and on what I’ll spend it.
  • A lovely piece of Clear Quartz, charged with my intention to make wise buying decisions from now on. I am someone who asks their crystals for assistance first, and if it feels right, I know this crystal is up to help me!
  • A tiny bell, which, to me, symbolizes an ‘alarm bell’. Whenever I’m close to make a new purchase, I want an alarm bell to ring inside my head that makes me hesitate.
  • A dried leaf of white sage, charged in moonlight. I absolutely love white sage! It makes me feel happy and complete whenever I smell this scent, so of course, it has to go into my little bag!
  • A symbol I’ve drawn with closed eyes. I love making symbols for certain purposes, but I’m not really creative at all! That’s why I just close my eyes and let the pen run down the paper. If I like it, I’ll keep it as my personal symbol for this very reason.
  • And lastly, a key pendant I’d bought years ago. This is the key to self control!

I’ve cleansed and charged all these items with sage and intention, because that’s just what I enjoy doing. Let all the negativity out, while performing my own little ritual with the intention to not buy so many things I don’t need anymore.

While putting every item slowly into my little bag, I repeated the following affirmations over and over:

“I will only buy what I really need.”

“I make wise purchase decisions.”

“I’m creative with what I have.”

“I will think clearly before making a purchase.”

After closing the bag, I held it in my hands and moved it close to my heart, then repeated the affirmations yet again while imagining to cast silvern light into it.

And once that was done, I put it under my pillow, where I’ll leave it for quite a while.

I already keep thinking about it a lot, so I know it works just as intended!

🌊 Stem the Tide 🌊

orriculum:

a water based spell to stop or slow events, or to push someone back.

image

To “Stem the Tide” is a nautical expression to describe ships sailing against the tide of the water, that was slowly them down.

🌊  gather: crushed rosemary, a divination board, a representative object.

* a divination board can be a pendulum board, ouija board, anything that has various answers

🌊  go to bathwater or a puddle, other body of water if you are landlocked.

🌊  weigh the divination board down at the bottom.

🌊  sprinkle crushed rosemary over the water

🌊  place the representative object to float in over the center of the board.

🌊  gather energy around your hands, perhaps even with a tempest spell.

🌊  using your hands, influence and push the tide to move where the object is over the board. the object is like the planchette or pendulum for the board, but you are giving it the answers.

🌊  though you cannot change the entire tide or command where a wave crashes, you affect the waters in your own way, making ripples and splashes.

Witchcraft 101: Psychic Phenomena

themori-witch:

image

What is Psychic Phenomena?

The internet describes it as: “phenomena that appear to contradict physical laws and suggest the possibility of causation by mental processes.” or “phenomena lying outside the sphere of physical science or knowledge.”

So, in layman’s terms, psychic phenomena are abilities and/or practises that do not comply with known laws of physics and deal with the metaphysical.

*Metaphysics is “a branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.”

✧ Automatic Writing:

Automatic Writing – also know as “psychography” – is, quite simply, the ability to write without conscious thought. This means that the writings done during an episode or session of Automatic Writing come from a spiritual source. Oftentimes, the writings will not make a lot of sense – Automatic Writing is a form of divination and thus, the writing must be be interpreted by the practitioner if the meaning is not immediately clear. // [How to Practise Automatic Writing]

✧ Clairaudience:

Clairaudience (clear hearing) is the ability to hear things that are not of this plane. For example, you may be able to hear the voices of spirits and entities that do not exist within the physical human world, or hear the voices of those who have passed. It is said that one can grow and develop this psychic ability over time with practise.

✧ Claircognizance:

Claircognizance (clear knowing) is best described as the ability to know something intrinsically. This means that you have knowledge of something, someone or a subject that you were not taught and cannot provide a background to. This is often referred to as a higher form of intuition and if you are claircognizant, you know that what you know is true beyond doubt.

✧ Clairgustance:

This psychic phenomena, is probably one of the stranger ones. Literally meaning “clear taste”, clairgustance is the ability to taste something without putting it in your mouth. This form of extra-sensory perception (ESP) is uncommon and those who possess this ability say that they can taste the essence of something from an astral or spiritual plane.

✧ Clairolfaction:

This is a form of ESP that enables the person with this talent to receive information by means of – for lack of a better description – psychic smelling. Yes, you did read that correctly. Much like the aforementioned Clairgustance, Clairolfaction is the ability to smell something – or as practitioners may say the essence of something – without a physical source for the stench to emanate from.

Clairolfaction is also known as “clairscent”.

✧ Clairsentience:

Clairsentience (meaning “clear feeling”), is the ability to acquire knowledge by touch. The gifted individual may gain knowledge of emotion, memory, location and more by touching a person or an object that belongs/belonged to a person. Sometimes, a Clairsentient person may feel the presence of spirits too.

✧ Clairvoyance:

Clairvoyance (meaning “clear seeing”) is the ability to receive information about future events, or spiritual knowledge visually.

✧ Divination:

Divination is the umbrella term used for methods of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by spiritual means, such as using pendulums, dowsing, reading tarot cards, palmistry, and more.

✧ Energy Medicine:

Energy medicine, also known as spiritual healing, is a branch of alternative medicine based on the belief that healers can channel healing energy into a patient/client and effect positive results by doing so.

Reiki is a well known form of this.

✧ Mediumship & Channelling:

There are different types of mediumship and channelling (such as Ouija), but the best way to cover all the types with one small explanation, is to say that mediumship is the practise of communing with the deceased.

✧ Precognition & Premonition:

Precognition and premonition simply means that the person with this gift is able to have foreknowledge of an event/events. A common form of gaining this knowledge, is through clairvoyance and prophetic vision.

✧ Psychometry:

Psychometry is the ability to gain knowledge of a person – whether that is their location, personal knowledge, or otherwise – through contact with an inanimate object that is associated with them. Commonly the objects used in psychometry will belong to the person you are trying to gain knowledge about, and may be items of clothing or jewellery.

✧ Retrocognition:

This is also known as “postcognition” and is the opposite of precognition. This ability is described as being able to gain knowledge of an event that has already passed that cannot be learned through regular means and must be learned through extra-sensory perception.

✧ Second Sight:

Often, this term is used interchangeably with “clairvoyance” as it means that the person with this gift is able to predict and perceive future events before they occur through visual means. These visions are often symbolic in nature.

✧ Scrying:

A form of divination, Scrying is the practise of foretelling the future or gaining foresight using a reflective surface, such as a mirror, crystal ball or water. // Scrying [Witchcraft 101]

✧ Telepathy:

Telepathy is the ability to communicate with another person through extra-sensory means – by this, we mean that the communication is done by means outside the known senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing).

Different shapes of gemstones and their meanings.

justanothergrey:

Each crystal or gemstone can be found in many different shapes, but actually each one has specific properties. Here are some of them:

Tumbled Stones

This stones are the ones whose shape has been smoothed or polished from their raw form. Ideal for meditation, affirmations and altar work. This shape evens and gentle energy.

image

Abundance stones

This is basically an elongated crystal with clustered, smaller crystals around it. This is perfect for wealth and abundance, hence it’s name. Useful, for example, to use in business.

image

Natural point stones

Not necessary a wand-like crystal, they’re any part of a faceted crystal with a point that has formed naturally and not precisely perfected. This are useful to draw energy from a body or to the body. Perfect for cleansing and healing.

image

Generator stones

A Generator will have six facets (of equal or unequal proportions) that meet into one point. It gets its name for its ability to generate amplified energy, boosting the power of other stones, or the stone it is made of. This type of formation is also very powerful for charging other stones.

image

Geode

Geodes have the ability to hold energy within and soften it, allowing it to naturally flow out and disperse evenly. These formations are great for protection or for assisting with healing abusive habits such as alcoholism and abusive internal monologues.

image

Raw stones

Raw stones are in their natural form and have not been smoothed, polished or altered. Also they’re often considered as more fragile than it’s relatives. They are great for all spiritual work.

image

Pyramid stones

This refers to four equal triangle faces and a square base. This is pretty often used in healing, it’s useful for warding off negative energy and also removing blocks from the chakra system. Also good for affirmations and manifestation work.

image

Stimmy Witch Tips

themanicnami:

Here are some magickal tips for people who, like me, stim for whatever reason.

image
  • Charge your stim toys and slime in moonlight to cleanse
  • When playing with kinetic sand or slime focus on putting your negative feelings and energies into it as you squeeze and twist them in your fingers. Be sure to cleanse afterwards
  • Play with different toys, slime, sand, etc based off of their colors for easy color magick such as orange slime for motivation, green squishy for learning/education, yellow sand for inspiration, etc
  • Enchant your squishies, fidget cubes, spinners, tangles, etc to bring you peace of mind, relaxation, focus, motivation, or whatever else you may need it for
  • Use Glitter bottles for meditation and scrying
  • Drag sigils on your fidget spinners, so every time you use it, you activate the sigil on it
  • Draw sigils in kinetic sand or slime then to activate squish and squeeze it
  • Use plushies based off of their appearances such as what animal, food, or fruit they are based off of
  • When making slime, stir clockwise to focus on putting intent into the slime you are making such as for it to bring you peace of mind or focus when playing with it. Or stir it counter-clockwise for intents like banishing negative thoughts or anxiety when using the slime
  • I love deco slime so add in items that relate to your intent like bead color and shape, glitter color, confetti, etc
  • For those of us with wandering minds, use fidget toys or stim toys to help you focus when chanting, working on a spell or meditating
  • After an exhausting spell, ritual or curse use your stimming toy or object of choice to help relax and rest after a spell well done.
  • Use glitter bottles, orbs, and wands/sticks to represent the stars in the sky or other cosmic bodies for cosmic witchcraft
  • Glitter wands also make wonderful wands! Especially for spells related to motion, water or wind, the sky or stars and anything related to the colors in the wand
  • For those who love paint mixing, choose your colors based off of intent and mix them together as the spell itself
  • Use gifs and videos of stimming to help you during spells and keep you calm if needed or to just add added intent from the things in the videos
  • Chewing stim toys are great for anger relief, think about all of your frustrations and anger going into the chew stim or anythign else you wish to banish from yourself, then soak in water or cleanse in the sun/moonlight
  • Orbeez are great for color magic and mixing them with your fingers and hands to charge and activate the spell. Just do not ingest

Hope this helps all of my fellow stimming witches! Stimming toys, slime, sand, etc etc are all great to use in witchcraft. I personally love slime and deco-slime. I always use it after or during a spell to help me keep my focus.

Hope you all have a wonderful day dears!!! ^0^

Corians

spiritconnect:

image

Corians are spirits who come from another dimension’s realm and are the embodiments of ink and color.

Appearance:

  • Corians look mostly like humans, but colorful.
  • Each individual can take a specific animal form, as well.
  • Each individual is a different color, and said color usually manifests in their hair, eyes, and skin. They tend to dress in their color as well.
  • There is a separate clan of Corians that consists of grey/black shaded individuals, they sometimes are mistaken for shadow people.

Characteristics:

  • Due to being made out of ink, Corans are resistant and do not take physical damage in fights.
  • However, for the same reason, water is extremely dangerous for them, for they dissolve in contact with it.
  • Their ink can be toxic if they so desire. Staining can be poisonous, and may or may not be permanent. This only happens when there is intention.
  • Corians live long lives, being 200 ~ 500 earth years is still a young age for their kind.
  • They live in society.
  • The act of “consuming” one another is not unusual in their culture, specially as an act of love and devotion. Two or more individuals will become one, mixing their colors together. Separation is possible, although difficult.
  • That is also a method of domination, and a crime when done against one’s will.

Offerings:

Corians are quite hard to encounter or bumb into as they prefer not to leave their home realm, but just in case, they might enjoy:

  • Things in their respective color
  • Rainbow themes
  • Reflective surfaces
  • Ink
  • Paintings
  • etc.

Bubbles in Magick

themanicnami:

Bubbles are whimsical and fun mixes of Air and Water, and hold a magic of all their own. Many of us have fond memories of using bubbles s children whether it was from blowing them out in the summer breeze or baths overflowing with them.

Correspondences of Bubbles

Bubbles have several correspondences and uses when it comes to magick and witchcraft. Due to their whimsical and nostalgic nature they are often associated with inspiration, creativity, childhood, wonder and fantasy. Bubbles are also wonderful for protection, cleansing and purification spells seeing as they are often made through using soap. Due to the shape and shine of many bubbles they are often associated with scrying and psychic abilities as well.

Bubble Uses

Bubbles and Cleansing

There are various ways to use bubbles to cleanse oneself or their space. The most simple and obvious way being using soap in the shower or bath and while washing one’s self imagining any dark, heavy emotion and energy one has being being sucked up into the bubbles and foam, trapped inside them. Then as the bubbles go down the drain, visualize all that toxicity going with it.

One can also use a bubble wand and bubble liquid to remove their negativity by visualizing as you blow the bubbles that all your breath going into them is filled with the negativity you wish to remove from yourself. This method is best down outside to ensure when the bubble pops it doesn’t just re-release the negativity in your living space.

To cleanse one’s space or home with bubbles is simple. You either clean it gently where you are able to use soap or you may leave a dish of bubble liquid out overnight. Once it has set out you may dispose of it down the sink or outside via blowing bubbles.

Bubbles and Wishes

Like my previous Bubble Spell, bubbles are wonderful for wish making. Focus on the wish and intent you have. Let it build up in your chest and lungs then release it as you blow your bubbles. Watch them float up into the sky and once they burst know that your wish has been released out into the universe.

Bubble Scrying

Bubble scrying is one of my favorite methods of simple divination. While in a bath filled with bubble bath, close your eyes and focus on your energy. Use your finger to stir in the water and foam of the bubbles. Ask your question or what you seek in your mind our outloud. Once you are satisfied stop your stirring and open your eyes. Watch and focus on the way the bubbles move and wait. Once you see shapes and images in the soap that feel to have a significance remember what they are. I often use the associations used in tasseography to determine what the shapes and images mean.

Sigil Baths

themanicnami:

What is a sigil bath?

Simply put it’s a bath that you can put sigils into and to activate them without using fire. It’s a wonderful way to practice “in the forest” magic or if you’re in an apartment safer to do.

They are great for glamour, beauty, cleansing, and pretty much any other thing you can think of. Make sure the sigils in the bath don’t “fight each other”. By this I mean, putting a sigil for “energy” in the same bath as a sigil for “relaxation” isn’t beneficial. Likely, the two would cancel each other out. Make sure they correspond together and work well such as a job success sigil with a luck sigil and confidence sigil used together before an interview. Or a happiness sigil used with a self-love sigil after a bad day.

What you will need:

  • Sigils of your choice
  • Washable markers
  • Paper (lined or printer)
  • Salt (any kind, I use epsom)
  • Moon Water
  • (optional) Bubble Bath of choice
  • (optional) Sachet of Herbs that correspond with Sigils

Steps:

  • Gather your supplies together and make sure your bathroom is clean as well as the tub. Find the sigils you wish to use. Meditate or center yourself if needed.
  • Select the colors of markers you wish to use. I recommend you use colors that correspond with the purpose of your sigil. On the either torn or cut down pieces of paper so they are about palm sized, draw a sigil. For each sigil use a different piece of paper. If wanted you may write words on pieces as well or with the sigils.
  • Start your bath. Make sure it is warm but not scalding. As the water fills add in your bubble bath if you wish to use it and your sachet of herbs if you wish to use them too.
  • Once tub is half filled add in your salt, I usually add about a tablespoon maybe two so I don’t get dry skin. Pour in your moon water as well.
  • Place or sprinkle the sigils into the bath then get in.
  • Soak and relax, meditate if you can. The sigils in the bath will fade due to the washable ink and they will activate inside of the bath. Feel their energy and think about their intent, feel how they charge the water.
  • Once you are satisfied with your bath remove the paper carefully from the water before draining to prevent clogging.
  • Continue on with the rest of your day!

Respecting the Gods

will-o-the-witch:

Don’t… treat them as tools. Deities aren’t obligated to help you, even if you do everything “correctly” to ask. They’re not vending machines, or a list of correspondences that only gets value from how they best serve you. They’re gods!
Instead…
treat them like people. (Really high-status people.) Build a relationship before asking big favors. Compensate them for their time. Respect they have their own autonomy. Respect that your will is not the center of their universe.

Don’t… reduce them into archetypes. Putting Frejya or Aphrodite into just “love goddess” takes out so much of their depth. (Example, both of these goddesses also have warlike aspects.) Putting them into narrow categories and treating all deities that fit as the same can be reductive at best and insensitive to the root cultures at worst.
Instead… address who you’re really talking to. Do your research. See how a god either lines up with or defies your assumptions. See what makes them different from a deity with a similar domain. If you wish to speak to the Horned God, speak to the Horned God, and if you want to speak to Cernunnos or Pan, call them Cernunnos or Pan.

Don’t… ignore the lore. UPG Can certainly exist and add depth, but the lore has survived and is what all these gods are largely founded on. It’s important for us to recognize it and know who we’re approaching.
Instead… do your research beforehand. Did you know Aphrodite is widely considered to HATE pigs and be offended with offerings of pork or images of pigs on the altar? Might be a good thing to know before you accidentally offer some fresh bacon. (But if you recognize the lore and find a way to spin it so it works, more power to you~)

Don’t… insult other people’s gods. If those gods don’t resonate with you, they have a lot of meaning for other good people. I’m tempted to say don’t insult your own, either. Playful banter is one thing, but there’s a line between affectionate jabs and straight up disrespect. Find where that line is for you.
Instead… talk to other people. If something about a god you don’t worship feels problematic, talk to their followers and devotees and see what they have to say about it. They probably have an approach you haven’t been exposed to. Analyze your own relationships with deities. And if the way you speak about a deity makes someone else uncomfortable or upset, respect their right to feel that way, apologize, and learn from it. Remember that each deity has changed someone’s life for the better.

🌿Magical herbal salt🎀

Hi!🌹 Today I want to share here one of my magic salt recipes!🔮💜

First at all I took some fresh herbs from my little balcony garden and rock salt.🌱

Salt is a crystalline mineral made of two elements, sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl).Salt magical properties are cleansing, purification, protection.

I used Parsley, Lavender, Basil and Marjoram.

Herbs magical properties are:

Parsley – increase strength, vitality and passion.Parsley is also supposed to protect food from contamination.🌿

Basil – helps steady the mind, brings happiness, love, peace, and money and protects against insanity.🌿

Marjoram – cleansing, purification, and dispelling negativity.🌿

Lavender -love, healing, purification, sleep and beauty.🌿

So that all herbs make my salt more magical and powerful!🌙🔮

I used mortar and pestle to mix that all.🌿After that I added my salt into glass jar and I left in on my altar🔮.

I will add my herbal salt to everything that I cook.

Also I will use it for my protection spells and rituals.🔮

All pictures are mine.

Keep My Name Off Your Lips

switchywitchy:

A hex for staying wagging tongues

You will need:

🕸three nails/needles/pins

🕸half a lemon

🕸a small glass (shot glasses work great, but any cup will do)

🕸a pinch of cayenne (or regular black) pepper

🕸a small compact mirror

🕸something to write on the mirror (eyeliner or a dry erase marker)

Gather your materials, and find a quiet place. This spell is best worked at night, after the moon has risen and the stars are out.

1. On your mirror, write the name or initials of the person you are hexing.

2. Take your half a lemon, and while firmly envisioning the person you are hexing, use one of your nails to carve a pair of eyes and a mouth into the skin of the fruit.

3. Hold the lemon and say

<i>“(persons name),
Keep my name off your lips
May the poison you speak turn back upon you
Keep your eyes off my face
May you see the ugliness inside yourself instead
So I say, so it will be”</i>

4. Draw x’s through the eyes and mouth of the lemon, then push the nails through the center of each x, pushing all your emotions and pent up feelings into the lemon.

5. Squeeze the lemon and collect the juice in the cup. Mix in a few flakes of the pepper, and stir with your finger.

6. Using your finger, drip the mixture onto the mirror and their name. Let the liquid sit for a moment, and imagine all of its acidity and bitterness being sent to the person you’re hexing. Then, when you feel the energy has built enough, swipe your finger through their name and smear it until it cannot be read.

7. Dispose of your materials properly, and leave your mirror to dry somewhere where it will get sun. The spell is cast.

🕸Note: Hexes work until the intended learns their lesson. If they have already learned their lesson, the hex will not work!

mossytreeelf:

Made this list for my fellow witchies who like their kitchen to be full of the green stuff :

  1. Basil : like lots of sun and warmth. More difficult to grow in the winter months
  2. Bay : needs plenty of sun and fresh air.
  3. Chives : needs at least 6 hours of sun and plenty of water.
  4. Dill : prefers slightly acidic soil, needs plenty of sunlight, doesn’t need too much water.
  5. Lemongrass : My personal favorite as you don’t plant it in soil. Grow in a couple of inches of water. Easiest to grow.
  6. Mint : needs plenty of water and needs to be placed in an area with indirect light. Harvest frequently.
  7. Oregano : does not deal well with cold and drastic temperature changes could kill it.
  8. Parsley : Doesn’t require too much light or maintenance, but is a slow grower.
  9. Rosemary : needs 6 – 8 hours of strong, direct sunlight. Only water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Needs good ventilation. A bit trickier to grow.
  10. Sage : Needs plenty of sun.
  11. Thyme : Needs 6 – 8 hours of sunlight a day and maybe even supplemental light.

Types of Spells & Basic Methods of Casting

lunaesteria:

  • Attracting – fill a small jar with honey and add a written statement of intent to the jar – seal and set the jar in direct sunlight to manifest your intent; stir your morning coffee or tea in a clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to attract for the day; fill a jar with herbs and crystals that represent what you want to attract and add a statement of intent; charge a crystal and wear on your person to attract certain energies; create a sigil and either draw it on yourself or on paper and keep in your pocket; create a talisman, charge it, and wear it to attract various energies
  • Banishing – take an item that represents what you wish to banish and: throw it in the trash, flush it down the toilet, burn it, bury it, drown it; burn the item and sweep the ashes out the back door or bury them; carve the name of what you want to banish into a black candle and let it burn down completely; transmute negative energy into a stone (preferably a black stone like onyx) and throw it over the fence in your backyard (or whichever direction is south in reference to your home); stir your morning coffee or tea in a counter-clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to banish for the day; using incense that is associated with banishing negative energy, walk around your space in a counter-clockwise motion with the lit incense in your hand
  • Binding & Sealing – wrap a string around a poppet or other representation of the target or item you wish to bind; put the poppet or other representation in a plastic bag filled with water and freeze it; place the item in a black box and seal it – store in a dark place or bury the box in your backyard; drip wax over the item

  • Blessing & Consecrating – anoint an object with holy or blessed water/oil; place the object in a dry bath of herbs or flowers that are known for blessing; pass the object through incense smoke that is associated with blessing
  • Cleansing – leave the item in the path of direct moon, sun, or starlight; place in a dry bath or herbs or flowers that are associated with cleansing; place the item in a bowl of sea salt; pass the item through incense smoke that is associated with cleansing; pass the item through running water; anoint the item with a cleansing oil or charged water; bury the item in soil for 3 days so it may be “reborn” when unearthed; place a cleansing crystal on top of or next to the item; hang a wind chime outside of your home to negate negative energies before they have the chance to enter your home; open doors and windows; physically clean your space
  • Cursing – fill a poppet with baneful herbs and crystals, seal it, and store in a black box; add baneful herbs and crystals to a jar with a piece of paper that states the target’s name or a description of them and seal it; create a poppet or other representation of the target and destroy it (commonly by burning); stab the poppet with pins and needles; curse an item and gift it to the target
  • Dreams & Sleep – fill a sachet with herbs associated with restful sleep and peaceful dreams and hang above your bed; place the sachet under your pillow; wash your bedsheets and sleep clothes with a few drops of lavender or chamomile essential oil; alternately, choose fabric softener that is lavender scented to wash your sheets or sleep clothes with; create a sigil for peaceful dreams or dream recall, charge under the light of the moon, and place it under your pillow before you go to sleep; drink mugwort, peppermint, or valerian root tea before bed for vivid, lucid dreams; drink chamomile tea before bed for restful sleep; drink lemon verbena (vervain) tea before bed for dreamless sleep; when bathing at night, create a sachet that matches your intent and place in the bath or shower
  • Glamours – anoint the containers of beauty and hair products with Pluto oil or moon water (for transformation and metamorphosis); leave the item you wish to cast a glamour on under the full moon; charge a talisman with the effect you wish to have on others and wear when you go out for the day; add Pluto oil and moon water to a bath for a full body glamour (write your intent with bath crayons on the tub or shower wall for an extra boost); create an energetic shield over yourself in which the outside mirrors what you want others to perceive of you
  • Goal & Wish Manifestation – write your intent on a bay leaf and burn it; turn your intent into a sigil and store it in a jar filled with herbs or other items that represent said intent; place a written description of your goal or wish in the center of a crystal grid using stones that are associated with manifestation and power; place a coin in moon water while focusing on your wish or goal (leave container under direct moonlight overnight so that it may charge); light a candle whose color matches your intent and while focusing on your goal or wish, blow out the candle
  • Personal Power & Effects – create or enchant a talisman that represents your intent, charge it, and wear it on your person; take a ritual bath filled with herbs that are associated with personal power; create a potion from herbs associated with power and drink in the morning
  • Warding – sprinkle a mixture of protective herbs around the perimeter of your home while walking clockwise; leave protective crystals at each corner of your space; hang a protective amulet above the door to your space; wear a protective amulet for personal protection; create a protective witch bottle and bury near your front door; plant herbs or flowers that are associated with protection outside at each corner of your home; draw a protective sigil or symbol on the outside of your front and back door with sun water; hang witch balls or a witch’s ladder near your front door; create an energetic shield and place over yourself, your loved ones, or your entire home

The Versatile Hagstone

skepticaloccultist:

The serpent’s stone of old, often called a witch’s or hag stone, was said in antiquity to have been made by a mass of snakes whose saliva congealed into a stone with a hole through it, made by the serpent’s tongue. It was said by Pliny that the Druids held it in high esteem. Able to cure disease and quell nightmares, its hollow passage a window through which one might see beyond the veil.

“There is a sort of egg in great repute among the Gauls, of which the Greek writers have made no mention. A vast number of serpents are twisted together in summer, and coiled up in an artificial knot by their saliva and slime; and this is called the serpent’s egg. The druids say that it is tossed in the air with hissings and must be caught in a cloak before it touches the earth.” Pliny the Elder, in his Natural History

The adder stone takes the name hagstone in the British Isles, and though in Ireland, where there are no serpents to speak of, its origins are more mundane, being simply a stone polished by moving water that wears a hole through its center, its power is none the less extraordinary.

As a ward a hagstone is hung above one’s bed, or even the bed of a farm animal believed to be haunted by night visitors. It is said to quell nightmares and to keep away malefic influences from child and farm animal alike. A common tool of horsemen, cunning craft, and witch alike. The term “hag” in its name comes from the concept of being “ridden” by the night-hag, a once common term for the mora or sleep paralysis.

To those who ride across the hedge the hagstone has other abilities, as a periscope through which we can view the goings on of entities not normally within our visual field. By placing it to the eye it becomes a window into that other realm.

Worn on a cord either around the neck or at the wrist the hagstone is able to influence your dreams beyond just warding away unwanted influences. It is a talisman capable of unlocking the path to the sabbat. In his essay “What is Traditional Craft?” Andrew Chumbley gives a traditional anglian spell used to obtain the journey to the sabbat during self initiation. A simplecord of leather through the stone’s hole and bound to one’s wrist. In this way the hagstone anchors the practitioner into the stream of the other and one ride’s the current that flows naturally toward the sabbat.

Additionally a hagstone can be used to ward the edge of a space, clearing it for ritual use and chasing away whatever boggart or wight may be lurking in the corners.

The history of the use of hagstones goes back millennia, with archaeological evidence of their use in ancient Egypt. They are an incredibly versatile tool, one that travels easily in this modern world as well.

Through their water connection they are particularly useful for weather and sea magics. Their alignment to spirits of water depths and running streams makes them even more of a bridge to that other landscape. Sailors used them in their folkmagic attempts to protect from storms, nailing them to the bow of the ship.

But where does one find one? Can they be purchased? Incidentally, a hagstone is one of the rare items that should ultimately be useful even if purchased/traded from another, as long as it has genuinely been taken from running water when found. Though from the perspective of folkcraft the witch would be advised to go out and find one themselves, a tool found by the witch’s cunning being incredibly more powerful than anything gotten secondhand.

The stones vary in substance, often softer shales and slates making up the easier to find articles along river beds. But as well one might find a hard granite, flint, or quartz stone beaten by the ocean waves along some abandoned beach. The hole must be naturally made by the water’s movement, worn by friction and time.

Hagstones can be incorporated into witches ladders, spirit bindings, ritual clothing, and talismanic objects. They make exceptional ‘worry stones’ that one just carries in their pocket.

The witch’s stone is an incredibly versatile and often overlooked tool in the arsenal of the craft practitioner. While one may have several there is usually a bond with a particular stone that lets it function more personally. Worn on the body or used in a charm an adder stone is practically a must for any witch’s bag of tricks.

On Blood Magic

dovewithscales:

Blood magic is not, as some seem to believe, inherently its own discipline of magic, as is for instance necromancy, or kitchen witchcraft. Though, certainly one could construct an entire magical practice around the use of blood if one so desired, and I’m certain some people have.

Rather, I approach blood as a tool to be incorporated into spells.

It’s not as glamourous, mysterious, or dangerous as it’s made out to be. Though there are some risks involved.

The inclusion of blood in any Work greatly enhances its power. Blood remains always linked to the life from which it comes, and channels the power of that life force into the Working. It is a direct connection to a living thing.

There are three primary ways in which blood may be used, based mostly on the source of the blood.

Your Own

Your own blood is obviously the easiest to acquire. Doing so forges a direct and profound connection to the force of your psychic energy.

As one of the factors in the effectiveness of a spell is how much energy the caster commits or is able to consciously direct, these spells are far more powerful than others.

These spells can be surprisingly draining to the caster. They tap into energy more deeply than most can do by other means, and invest whatever it takes to achieve the goal. I’ve never heard of blood spells taking enough energy to have a detrimental effect on health, but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Be prepared to feel exhausted. In fact it may be wise to treat it as one would giving blood. Have something sweet ready to go, at least until you know how you’re going to react to this kind of work.

As a note for those dragons reading this. There is a reason dragon’s blood is so famous in lore. The source of energy to which blood connection is exponentially greater in our case than in any human. Blood magic in the hands of a dragon is amazingly potent.

Your Subject’s

There is no question in my mind that blood is the most powerful taglock one could possibly use. As with your own blood, the blood of your subject is a direct connection to their energy. So if you wish to cast a spell on someone, and you can get their blood, it is very useful.

It is extremely difficult to defend one’s self against a spell of this sort. The connection tends to bypass most shields and wards. On which note, if you have any reason to believe someone might want to cast a spell against you, take care not to give anyone access to your blood.

You’re unlikely to get blood from someone willingly, and if they’re willing to have Work done for them, you don’t really need their blood. With an unwilling subject, there are not only ethical considerations (if they’re unwilling, this is probably a curse, but the ethics of curses are beyond the scope of this article) but also legal considerations. Anything you could do to spill someone else’s blood (even poking them with a lancet) would be assault and potentially a felony. Don’t do that. You’ll want to check local laws even before going through someone’s garbage.

Also, there are serious sanitation and contamination issues here. Generally because of these considerations I’d just advise against using a subject’s blood in any Working. There are FAR easier methods. It’s much easier to get a strand of hair without committing a felony, for instance. But, the completeness of the article requires I discuss the possibility.

Someone Else’s

This may refer to a few drops from a friend, in which case you have the addition of their energy to the spell you were already casting. See the information on using your own blood for relevant details.

Many traditions engage in blood sacrifice. There is nothing inherently immoral about the practice, though one may have personal issues against it. In which case the solution is simply not to use this method.

Generally speaking, we’re talking about non-human animals. Human sacrifice is commonly referred to as murder. I don’t need to tell you not to do it, but I will anyway. Just don’t.

Besides, my philosophy makes no distinction between human and animal life, so generally speaking there’s very little difference as far as the power of the energy. I’m a dragon, I think it’s silly to think a human life is worth more than a cow’s life.

Though you may wish to incorporate the symbolic attributes of the animal in the spell. That’s beyond the scope of this article.

Most traditions of animal sacrifice involve using the blood for magic, the viscera for religious rites, the hide and bones for crafting, and eating the meat. Nothing is wasted. It’s actually more conscientious than modern practices, wherein your butcher may well waste everything but the meat.

Animal sacrifice isn’t practical for most people, but this is very useful if you happen to live on a farm and raise food animals. If you wish, you can also go to a butcher shop and ask for blood. Most will be happy to accommodate you, but you need to ask in advance so they’ll save it for you. You may also be asked to pay in advance.

As with using your own energy, incorporating someone else’s blood in your spell is to tap into the depths of their energy in a profound way. When the animal dies in the process, you are using ALL of their energy.

I would not ordinarily kill an animal just for a spell. I don’t like killing for reasons other than self preservation. Such as self defense or for food. So I would only use an animal I then intend to eat. But that is an individual moral choice I leave to you.

In All Cases

There is risk if your intent or focus are lacking. You are wielding an inordinate amount of energy, which will not simply dissipate if you aren’t ready for it. If you are conflicted about your desire, you risk the Working manifesting your subconscious desires as well as your conscious ones. If your mind wanders, or the conditions of your spell itself are not specific enough, you risk wreaking havoc unintentionally. If you don’t want anyone to be hurt, you had better state that as your intent. You’d be surprised how many problems can be solved by someone contracting a sudden illness.

Blood magic is not for those who are not masters of their own minds.

Then again, magic is not for those who are not masters of their own minds.

There are also mundane considerations. The best means of drawing blood is with a sterile lancet of the kind used for blood sugar testing, available along with lancing devices at any pharmacy. A clean, individually packaged scalpel or razor is also effective, particularly if you need more than a few drops of blood, which you will not for most purposes.

Before drawing blood, you must sterilize the area, ideally with an alcohol swab. Otherwise you risk infection. Make no mistake, while the chances are slim, infection CAN lead to loss of a limb or even death. Yes, just from the bacteria normally present on your skin.

If you’ve done more than a lancet, you must also sterilize and bandage the site after you’re done. Again, infection can in fact be lethal. Or at the very least, the medical bills will be expensive. If the area appears red or inflamed the following day or any time thereafter, seek medical attention, as this is a sign of infection.

There’s also cleanliness to consider. Properly dispose of or clean anything which has come into contact with blood. I tend to burn my spell components, so the problem solves itself. The recommended disposal of lancets and razors is to deposit them in a puncture proof plastic container, seal it, and label it “USED SHARPS, DO NOT RECYCLE”. Blood becomes unsanitary in air very rapidly. Any surface which it has touched instantly becomes a germ magnet. No, it does not matter if you’re healthy, your exposed blood becomes toxic in a matter of minutes on its own, and can remain so for days or weeks.

How To Use Blood In A Spell

Now that you have some blood, there are many ways to use it as you can imagine, but I’ll include some of my favorites.

My go-to all purpose spell is the defixio. Defixiones are any form of spell which involves writing your intention (in verse or in prose) and performing a ritual act on the medium in which it is written. The preferred method of my Greek ancestors was to inscribe an incantation onto a lead tablet and bury it. I like to write them on paper (with a consecrated pen) and burn them. I almost always include a drop of my blood either on a cotton swab or directly on the paper, just as a means to charge the spell.

One may also draw sigils in blood. Draw a sigil in blood on paper and burn it. You may also for instance draw a sigil for cleansing on your skin in your own blood, and then immediately step in the shower and wash it off. My fellow nerds will note this is a running theme on the TV show “Supernatural”.

There are spells using large amounts of animal blood to mark thresholds as part of a ward. One such spell is famously described in the Old Testament.

There are also blood oaths, in which one swears an oath while drawing blood, or even literally signs a written contract in blood, binding both parties to a bargain on threat of a predetermined penalty.

There are countless others, but these are the ones that come to me off the top of my head.

I am happy to answer any questions, and I hope that this information is of some use. Thank you for reading. If you have found this helpful, please like and reblog.
