i don’t believe for a second he feels any kind of remorse about it tho. this works in his favor more than the separation policy did. the executive order lets him bypass a consent law so they can detain kids indefinitely now :

but previously, minors could only be detained (unaccompanied) for 20 days, due to the 1997 Flores agreement. with this EO, the families will be kept together, including the babies and toddlers. adults have already been kept indefinitely, so now the kids will be too. it’ll probably be challenged but it’s been suggested by a few immigration lawyers that this was the plan all along
