Waters

thefrogsapothecary:

Hello darlings! Today I really want to talk about magical waters. I’ll start with simple waters, then one ingredient waters, and then composite waters. Waters is pretty much anything like water that is used magically, so it ranges from storm water to tobacco and damiana tincture, and other stuff. Any of these can be collected whenever is convenient, but I added the time to collect them to make them more potent.

Natural Waters

Rain Water:

Rain water can be used for any spell to make it more potent, but it is a useful tool in peace magic, to quell anger, to relax, and for dream magic. Collect whenever you want.

Storm Water:

Storm water can be either protective or offensive. Use it to wash down your doors to protect you from hexes, and wash your tools with it to amplify their power. You can use it in any hexes or curses you want. To amplify it, add rusty nails to it and let turn rusty. Collect on a waxing gibbous moon.

Swamp Water:

Can be used in works for binding, hexing, or cloaking. Use when wanting to cause illness. Annoint yourself with swamp water to make yourself unnoticeable to others. Colelct on the dark moon (second new moon of the month) or on the new moon.

Marsh Water:

Marsh water is almost the same as swamp water, but it is more suitable for cloaking than other things. It can also be used for cleansing negative energies. Colelct on waning crescent moon.

Hail Water:

Hail water is melted hailstones. Use it for protection or hexing. Similar to storm water, but more aggressive. Use when you want to break sojmeone, or when you wish to cause physical harm. Collect during a full moon for best results.

Salt Water:

Salt water can be used for cleansing and protection from negativity. Simply add salt to water.

Sea Water:

Use sea water in works involving the psyche, or in hexing. It can also be used for cleansing. I use it to work with demonic forces as well. Collect on a new moon.

Lake Water:

Lake water is amazing in works concerning emotions, love, memories, or past life regressions. Boil it and drink it to enhance attempts for past life regressions. Collect on waxing moon.

Pond Water:

Use when wanting to bind someone, or to limit their horizons. Keep a flower vase with pond water in it on a table to silence a conversation to those not sitting at it. Collect on a dark moon.

Spring Water:

Spring water is super versatile. Use it instead of tap water.

Dew:

Dew can allow the witch to cast powerful glamours for beauty and youth. It is an important ingredient in love potions. Collect at sunrise during a waxing or full moon.

Self Water:

Fancy word for spit or urine. This one is a little nasty, but it is to be used whenever a spell needs to be tied to the caster.

Simples

Sun Water:

Bask any sort of water in the sun for a full day. Use it for cleansing, to bring positivity into a space, or for glamours of youth.

Moon Water:

Used to power up any spell. Let water sit in the light of a full moon for a full night.

Tobacco Water:

Steep tobacco into water for a week in the fridge. When strained, mix with 100 proof vodka, about 1.5 parts water for 1 part vodka. Use it to cleanse or to offer to spirits when working with them. Can be used to cause addiction in a person.

Saffron Water:

Steep saffron into water and mix 1 part water with 1 part vodka. Use to raise winds by sprinkling it in the air, or rub on your lips before whistling and raising storms.

Rose Water:

Use for love, glamours, and beauty. Steep fresh rose petals in vodka for a period of 4 weeks, and then extract all the liquid from the petals by pressing them until they have lost their color. Cut with 0.5 part water.

Orange Blossom Water:

Use for joy, beauty, cleansing, and sunshine. Prepare in the same way as the rose water.

Lilac Water:

Use lilac water for sleep, dream magic, spirit work, and cleansing. Prepare in the same way you would prepare the other flower waters.

Apple Blossom Water:

Create this by the same manner as the three flower waters above. Use for protection, love, and beauty.

Holly Water:

Holly water is to be used to protect your family. It will prick at intruders, or unwelcomed guests. It will also allow you to always have knoledge of the safety of your family. Simply steep holly leaves in water and mix with vodka. Do not ingest this, as it is poisonous.

Composites

All Bite no Bark Water:

A powerful water used for protection of a space. Mix together storm water, hair of a black dog, dirt of a grave, the ashes of psalm 7, rose thorns, teeth of a canidae, and three holly berries. Pour around a room which you wish to protect, or water protective plants to give their produce an aggressive kick. This water will protect a space with the ferocity of a rabid dog, and will not warn before attacking.

Fiery Wall of Protection Water:

Mix together sun water with three hot peppers, red brick dust, pottasium nitrate (saltpeter), sulfur, and blackthorn pricks. Another like the above, but more passive. Attacker might suffer a rash after encountering it.

Pitch Water:

Use pitch water to stop someone from making any progress. Mix together water from a swamp, gum arabic or acacia, charcoal dust, and chapparal. It can also be used to dissorient. Fair warning, this water is hella sticky.

Fuck Off Water:

Mix together sumac, apple seeds, thorns of a blackberry, cloves and storm water. Use it to repel unwanted people.

Goodbye Lover Water:

Mix together sea water, sumac, cloves, poppy seeds, thorns of a cactus, petals of a hibiscus flower, and saltpeter. Use it to get rid of unwanted courters or lovers, or to make two people break up.

I hope you guys find this useful! Make sure to be careful with any of the potentially dangerous ingredients listed, and put these to good use! Good luck my darlings.

Yay! The straw besom is finished!

I know previously I said it would take 30 minutes from start to finish, but this was my first straw besom, and it took roughly an hour to complete.

I’ll pass along some tips as I go along…(long post is long, sorry!)

First of all, do not use a handle that is not straight across. If the top part has an angle, or a point, you will run into problems later, like the end cracking when you put the broom together. Also, make sure the handle is not too long, that creates problems because you can’t reach when putting it together.

image

Combing out the straw grass took about 15-20 minutes. I strongly recommend doing all of your besom work outside, as it creates quite a mess! I honestly just used the cat brush for this, and it worked like a charm! Gather up small bundles in your hand and comb out the straw to remove leafy, and loose bits.

image
image

You’ll want a pail with some water in it to soak the straw in to soften it a bit, and this will also make it easier to work with. I used long, plastic zip-ties, twine, scissors, and a pail with some water. (I didn’t use the roll of green plastic covered wire, I just didn’t end up needing it!)

Next, divide your straw into two nice bundles, and while holding them, tap them onto a flat surface, like a tabletop to even them out. You want all the bristles to be flush on the bottom before tying them up.

image
image
image

Slide a zip tie under your bundle of straw.

image

And pull that baby TIGHT!

image

Now do that a few more times! TIGHT! Until you just can’t get the ties any tighter!

image

Once I started putting the besom together, I found I really didn’t need those last two. The handle just wasn’t going on, and the bundle was TOO tight at that point, so I had to cut them last minute.

At this point, if you wanted to simply use the bundle as it is, it would make a nice hand-held besom. You could just cut the ties close to the end, but not cutting the ties away. You leave them in place and cover them up. Just cut the ends off.

You hand-held besom would look like this…(minus the plastic ends, and nice photobomb by the cat brush in this one)

image

Almost to the end now! Top part of the handle will be on the ground, and while standing up, you want to take your bundle and try to get it centred over the pointy end of the handle.

image
image

Sorry, grainy photo. It’s hard to hold onto a besom and a phone camera at the same time.

With one hand firmly on the bundle, and the other on the handle, legs apart, pound the handle on the ground, into the centre of the bundle, using a straight up and down spear-like motion. You’ll need to do that several times, until the bundle is firmly in place and shows zero signs of moving. This is where it is important to have a handle that is even and not on an angle. All this pounding on the ground will likely result in a broken handle, and a very sad Witch.

If you have done everything reasonably according to plan, your besom it assembled, and you can finish it off by wrapping twine over the ties to hide them.

In the end, it should look something like this…

image

Now you could leave it at that, of take the scissors and give the bristles a little haircut, like I did. It’s your besom, it’s up to you!

image
image
image
image

I really wanted a truly witchy looking broom, and I accomplished that with this besom. Now I just need to bless it.

If you’ve been following me for a while, or read my posts, you’ll know that I like a hands on approach to my craft, and feel it’s important to show others how with a  little effort, you can honestly make your own items. That’s why this post is so long, so that you can see the steps involved, and that it’s really not that hard to do. All the supplies I had on hand already, so the cost to me was $0.00, except for the time to gather the grass, handle and to assemble it. Something like 5 hours. So when you see a besom and wonder why they are pricey, you know that at least 4 or 5 hours went into making that besom. If you need supplies, hit up Dollarama (or your local dollar store) for twine and zip-ties.

When I talked about straw-grass, it’s any kind of tall, straw-like grass that has gone to seed at the top. Wheat grass, or any tall grass similar to this…

image

It should have stalks that feel just like those on a corn-broom.

This was the fourth besom I have made, and just love making them!

I hope I’ve managed to pass along some helpful points on making a besom, and wish you all the best on your journey!

If you’re a secret witch

Use a shoe box to hide your more obvious items.

Keep herbs stored in ziploc bags to easily conceal them.

Take up “rock collecting”.

Candles and incense because they “smell good!”

Use an Altoids tin as an altar.

Buy crystal jewelry.

Use perfume to cleanse.

Essential oils can be used in place of most herbs and are less obvious.

Get into cooking, buying herbs is justified then. Plus, kitchen magic!

Use old makeup/perfume/mason jars for spell jars.

You can use almost any necklace as a pendulum.

Use spice jars for tiny spell bottles.

Put an altar in a spare drawer.

Playing cards can be used in place of tarot cards and are very common.

There are a lot of virtual apps geared towards witches that are easily hidden.

You can put sigils, tiny crystals, among other things in lockets to hide them but be able to wear them.

Farmer’s almanacs are just as good as the witch geared ones if you add some information to them, and they are more mundane.

Acorn caps make good biodegradable offering cups.

Get into crafts! You can make some really cool witch stuff that can also just be taken as “artsy”.

Taking a few pinches from your parent’s kitchen cabinets is never a bad idea . Unless caught.

Store things in big, boring looking books.

Seashells and rocks with natural holes make great windchime elements.

You can say your bos/grimoire is a dream journal, which are fairly common and not suspicious.

Draw sigils on with lotion or washable marker.

A tea bag in your clothing drawer can help imbue clothing with the attributes of the tea you use.

Draw sigils on the bottom of your shoes.

Make a virtual altar instead of a physical one.

Always remember to clear that browsing history!

Draw small sigils on your nails then cover them with nailpolish.

Pretty much everything at a craft store can be used for witchcraft. Except maybe the older people who shop there.

You can buy really really small jars online and make them traveling spell jars.

You can enchant jewelry to keep spells close to you.

You can make friendship bracelets/lanyards with colors corresponding to your intent.

Enchanting something you wear daily like glasses or shoes with a ward is something that could be done if one doesn’t wear jewelry.

If you’re into sewing/cross-stitching: incorporate secret sigils into the design.

You can grow plant ingredients under the guise of eating healthier.

Buy soap/shampoo etc with scents to match different intents.

Pencil cases are inconspicuous!

You can use birthday candles instead of actual candles.

Obtaining scented candles a covert way of having colored candles… and if you want scentless you can just say you like the aesthetic but not the smell.

Bath salts can have magical intent and be just as effective as a for bath.

Doodling is a great way to cover up sigils in a notebook.

Grow plants. Collect rainwater. Say rainwater is for plants. Cackle to self.

Make a private discord server for taking to deities.

Threads that hang off of clothing or coats are good for thread magic so long as you don’t have to do a ton with them.

Cleaning and cleansing go hand in hand.

Virtual or sketched altar.

Usually the isle that carries Ethnic food carries SUPER cheap herbs.

All astrology is just you getting really into horoscopes.

If you want a more accurate birth chart, ask your parents for your time of birth. Say it’s out of curiosity.

Weird witch stuff lying around? You like the aesthetic from Charmed.

Sigils don’t have to be considered witchcraft. Say they’re like a good luck charm.

Make your own jewelry, beads, gems, threads, color correlation, etc.

Pinterest boards are great for various things. Dedicating things to deities, saving spells, etc.

Stuffed animals as representations of deities.

Thread magic = sewing and crocheting.

Side blogs on Tumblr are similar to pinterest boards!

Sigils on the bottom of hair spray cans for glamours.

Nail Polish = color correlation.

Quote: “My room smells weird so that’s why I’m burning like 100 candles and some incense”. Works every time.

You can make your own tarot cards with inconspicuous symbols and photos on them, say they’re drawings.

Fairy lights in your room because they “look cool”.

Put your bos in something that looks like a school notebook.

Leave offerings outside if safe. Bury them! But don’t bury things that are bad for the enviroment!!!

If you want to use a ouija board, there are quite a few virtual ones.

Any herbs you can get be purely for tea and nothing else.

If someone catches you meditating, tell them it’s for relaxation.

Draw sigils on the top of your ceiling fan. The fan will charge them while on! – Not recommended you do with a permanent marker!

Draw a sigil on the charger base of your electronic devices.

Charge your makeup/hair products/perfume/cologne up with whatever you’d like.

Lemon water makes a great cleansing spray and is usually not suspicious.

Sigils inside your phone case!

Enchant your jewelry or watches.

Draw a sigil with a white crayon on paper.

Put a pouch of herbs in your clothing drawers, if someone finds them, say it’s to decrease bad smells.

Incorporate magic into art.

Correlate your clothing to your intent that day.

Sigils on a hair ribbon or enchanted ribbon.

Put your intent into your food and drinks.

Learn to make your own tea.

Keep a penny in your pocket for luck.

Google drive vs physical bos if you’re worried about your parents seeing it

Slowly start buying candles and bam you wont be questioned because they are just candles!

Craft store stars painted with black-light paint placed on your ceiling in constellation arrangements.

Drink fruit infused water/tea.

Carry salt in old film bottles or similar cases to help cleanse your purse or bag.

Salt packets are free at fast food places.

Enchant your bank account/wallet/piggy bank/etc so that it charges your money!

Use travel size medicine bottles to hold random mini witch things: twig, pebbles, sand, salt, etc.

Draw elemental items to encourage their energies around you.

Leave sticky notes with magical symbols on your desk or in your locker to generate positive energy for the next school day overnight.

Terrariums and shadowboxes have always been popular, make it your altar or invitation to the fae.

Fairy gardens have been a thing for a long, long time. They’re not suspicious and very good for attracting the fae!

Enchant counter bowls of fruit or breads so that the food decays slower.

Remember that you’re still loved and valid as a secret witch 💖🌙

Making Your Own Sanctuary

Let’s start with the simple beginnings of turning your home a bit more foresty so you can have your own sanctuary of nature in your home. Whether this be an altar, a corner of a room or even a full room is up to you and the amount of space you have to work with. In my post here I will be referring to setting up a space that would be considered big enough to sit in for meditation and spells and altar space, if you have more room than that feel free to definitely expand it!

Simply clear out some space, make some room so you can comfortably practice without risk of knocking anything over or causing safety issues for yourself (such as when candles are burning). Now in this space it’s time to decorate it and set it up to feel like a nice little cut of forest placed in the comfort of your home.

Things to consider adding to your space: branches and leaves, acorns, pinecones, walnuts (in the shell), tablecloths/altar cloths with forest, leaf or tree prints on them, photos and art of the forest, antlers, deer/elk skulls/teeth, fur (legally obtained), feathers (legally obtained), and the colors brown, green and brown. Potted plants and moss are other wonderful ideas to keep in this space especially plants native to your state, if you are unable to keep large plants try some local herbs or moss.

If plants are still not an option for you to grow due to either just not having the skill for it or the time or just not being a good location for them for lack of sunlight or tight space, crystals and stones are always options as well. Any crystals or stones associated with earth are wonderful to use as well or ones that are either green or brown or a combination of the two. Some suggestions of crystals to keep in mind would be: Moss Agate, Green Calcite, Tiger’s Eye, Citrine, Emerald, Jet, Jasper, Peridot, Quartz, Petrified Wood, Botswana Agate, Dendritic Agate and Malachite are all wonderful stones to keep on an altar dedicated to nature and the earth.

Modernize your space a bit too if you wish, get some nice sounds of birds playing over some speakers or from your phone, set up some posters and images of nature and wildlife and add anything else that makes you think of the trees you love. It doesn’t matter what it is, all that matters is that it’s something that you find connects with your craft.

Grounding and Meditation

It is difficult to ground yourself with the forest when you are miles away from one, but it can be done inside your little forest corner/space. Cleanse yourself and your space as you see fit, light any candles or incense if you desire (make sure its not close to any cloth, paper or plants) and make it comfortable for you. Sit or lay down depending on what is best for you and your health needs, in a position that you prefer, remember this is no wrong way to set up for meditation. If you have a device near you play some sounds of wind, birds and ruffling of leaves to help you feel like you are in the forest. In each hand hold either some crystals associated to the forest or earth, some wood/sticks, a wand, rocks gathered from a forest or park or anything else that will help you feel connected to nature. Close your eyes and begin focusing the energy of your chest and stomach to spread through your body and connect yourself to the ground like roots. Imagine these roots being like that of a tree connecting you to it in the heart of a vast forest. Don’t forget to take deep breaths through your nose and release them out your mouth. Meditate as long as needed until you feel a deep connection and ready to do your craft.

Portable Forest Altars

For when you are on the go or traveling but need a bit of the forest in your pocket or bag, you can make yourself a portable forest altar. Portable altars are used by many witches who are on the go or just keep their craft secret. They are very easy to make and can be very convenient for when you need to cast a spell away from home.

First you will need a small container to carry your supplies in. Some witches prefer pocket sized things like small boxes that jewelry may come in, altoid tins or other small containers, other witches prefer journal sized ones inside boxes, plastic containers or tins. It really depends on what you will need and what you will personally be carrying it in. Whatever you choose to carry it in make sure its durable enough not to be crushed inside a purse or bag so that whatever is inside of it does not get damaged or ruined. Preferably make sure there is a way to close the container or tin you are using tightly, if needed tie it shut using ribbon or yarn to help prevent it from popping open inside your bags.

Now it’s time for the fun part of making your travel altar, selecting the items to go into it! Now depending on the size of your altar it will change what can fit into it, so feel free to play tetris a bit with what you are fitting into it. You want things to be a bit snug to prevent them bumping around and breaking but you don’t want it so tight that you can’t get anything out.

Some common things and suggestions to put into your travel altar: birthday candles, tealight(s), travel matches or lighter, crystal shards or small crystals, beads, packets of salt, packets of black pepper, dried herbs in small containers/bags, dried flowers, pine cones, acorns, leaves, branches/sticks, bark chips, tea, small sachets for on the go spells, images of animals or plants, feathers, small stones/rocks, runes and sigils written onto bark or paper, seeds and small figurines of animals or creatures.

For larger travel altars also consider adding: scissors, plastic or cloth baggies, small travel books on herbs, plants and/or trees, pocket notebook/sketchbook, pencils and pens, crystals and a portable wand.

Forest Witch Crafts, Spells and More

For this section I’m going to talk about a few at home crafts and spells that you can make and cast while in an urban setting once you have set up your space and gotten down your grounding. These crafts are all beginner friendly and can be done by entry level witches once they have gotten down grounding and centering their energy.

Forest Witch’s Ladder for Protection

You will need:

  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • 7 Oak Branches/Sticks
  • 2 Pine Sticks
  • Pine Cone
  • White Ribbon

Something to hang it from such as a repurposed clothing hanger or hook

Cut your twine to the lengths you desire it, though making sure all three are the same lengths. At the top tight a tight knot of your choosing, I usually use a simple square knot. Leave enough extra on one side of the knot to tie it to your hanger or hook. The rest of the twine should be long enough to allow you to work. Braid it in a simple 3 way braid before tying a tight knot, placing an oak branch below the knot (the pine are for the end) and snuggly securing it with the twine wrapping it in whatever way you feel fit. Secure it again with a knot pressed tightly below the branch and continue the braid. You may space out the branches however you like, whether they are close together or far apart. While braiding and securing branches, focus on the energy that is given off by the oak branches. Once you have secured all of the oak branches you add the pine branches until all branches have been secured into the braid. Use the bottom of your twine to begin securing the pine cone in whatever process you prefer, I am simple when it comes to my witch’s ladders so I often prefer to find a good section near the top of the pine cone and wrap my twine around it and secure it with a series of simple knots. Take your white ribbon and to close and finish your spell, tie a bow around the bottom part of the braid just above your pine cone.

Find a secure place in your bedroom or in any main room you spend most of your time in and hang it either upon the wall or on a door for protection. Every full moon it is recommended to cleanse and charge your Witch’s Ladder in the full moon’s light then rehang it in its place come morning.

Forest Poppets

These little poppets are easy to make using only a few items. Using an acorn or a pinecone for the head and if desired drawing a face to it and tying it either to some cloth, paper or sticks you can create a simple little doll for magickal workings.

Use these poppets to bring positive effects into your life. Create your doll and on some part of it write your name, initials or use a taglock such as a bit of hair tied to it. Different wood types will attract different things into your life. A few examples would be:

  • Apple: blessing, protection, love, inspiration
  • Ash: creativity, inspiration, healing, moving towards a goal
  • Cedar: cleansing, removing negativity, emotional healing
  • Cherry: attraction, sexual energies, romance, daring, courage, voice
  • Elder: healing, protection
  • Oak: leadership, strength, wisdom, abundance, fertility
  • Walnut: expansion, travel, knowledge, wisdom
  • Willow: divination, psychic awareness, secrecy, concealment, glamour, fertility, healing, empathy

Cursing using these poppets can be quite easy too. Simply select a wood type with correspondences to the opposite of what you want for that person. Such as using cherry wood to remove romance from their life instead of bringing it in. To reverse after you have made the poppet and added the persons taglock, take black thread and bind them up tightly or use tape. Then seal the poppet into a jar and fill it with nasty things like muddy water, puddle water, black pepper, rotting vegetables/plants, dirt, etc and seal it tightly. Bury it in a dark place or keep it hidden away where it is is dark such as under sinks or in closets that are rarely used. To break the curse, open the jar, remove the poppet, cut the tape/thread and then dispose of the poppet properly.

Forest Witch Bath (from my bath post)

Supplies:

  • Pine Needles
  • Pinecones
  • Pine essential oil (2 drops)
  • 3 bags of green or black tea
  • Green sachet
  • Mint
  • Cedar Chips
  • Green Candles (optional- tree or plant scented ones)

Steps: Light your candles and begin filling your tub. In you sachet add 1 part cedar chips and 1 part mint. Tie it shut and add to your bath as it fills. You may then add the pine needles to float freely or you may add them in a sachet as well. Add your two drops of pine oil once the tub is half filled to ensure it is well diluted in the bath. Add your tea bags into the water, line your tub with the pinecones and get in.

Note: essential oils can be harsh on certain skins, dilute the oil with a carrier oil and test on your skin to see if it affects you. If your skin is too sensitive for pine oil omit it from the spell.

Forest Witch Teas

There are several teas made from different trees that have several health benefits and magickal properties that are wonderful for spellcasting and overall forest witchery. A few helpful examples of these teas that are easy to purchase and find are listed below.

Pine Tea

Health: Health wise, properly gathered or purchased tea of this type is extremely good for you seeing as it is a ton of vitamin C. It is commonly used a vitamin C replacement for some individuals. It also has large amounts of vitamin A (though this one should be taken smaller amounts).

Correspondences: Pine corresponds mostly with endurance, strength, rebirth, celebration, and health

Willow Bark Tea

Health: Often referred to as “nature’s aspirin” or “the natural aspirin” willow bark tea is often used as a pain reliever for people and historically has been used for centuries. It is also often used for anti-inflammatory purposes. Though it can upset sensitive stomachs.

Correspondences: Willow trees often correspond with femininity, glamours, secrecy, invisibility, healing, sleep, fertility and emotional ties

Spruce Tea

Health: Spruce trees are very high in vitamin C making them great for immune systems and often used for vitamin supplements. Spruce needles are often used to soothe sore throats and coughs when made into a tea. It is also a great source of potassium.

Correspondences: astral travel, cleansing, purification, flight, creation, transformation, shapeshifting and ancient wisdom.

Deities of the Forest

This is a huge list of deities from different religions and mythology from around the world, none of which to my knowledge are closed religions. I did not list closed religion deities due to them being closed religions or religions such as Hinduism that requires someone to be initiated into it. (If I did accidentally list any closed religions please do let me know).

Dangerous Herbs

the-wiccans-glossary:

Listed below are dangerous herbs and herbal combination and explanations as to why they are dangerous. Do not try any of these herbs, orally, on the skin, or in any other way ever (or during pregnancy or nursing, if listed as such).

*Some of the herbs mentioned are safe in small doses are are written as such. Other herbs are toxic in small doses or any amount. This is not a complete list.

Belladonna Nightshade, bittersweet nightshade is an extremely poisonous herb and is absolutely deadly. It is related to Henbane. Side effects can include dry mouth, enlarged pupils, blurred vision, red dry skin, fever, fast heartbeat, inability to urinate or sweat, hallucinations, spasms, mental problems, convulsions, and coma.

Blue Cohosh – Can cause miscarriages, especially during early pregnancy. This herbs in combination with other herbs has been used as an aborfacient. It works by loosening and relaxing the uterine muscles. This is why it is often suggested as a remedy for pms and menopause.

Black Cohosh –

Can cause miscarriages, especially during early pregnancy. This herbs in combination with other herbs has been used as an aborfacient. It works by loosening and relaxing the uterine muscles. This is why it is often suggested as a remedy for pms and menopause.

Chaparral – This herb can cause serious liver damage, liver failure, and acute hepatitis.

Comfrey – Comfrey can be taken in small doses for upset stomach and pms, but using a lot is dangerous. Comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, a type of poison that causes liver and kidney failure as well as cancer. They can be absorbed through the skin as well.

The amount of PAs found in comfrey changes according to the time of harvesting and the age of the plant. The roots have 10 times higher amounts of PAs than the leaves.

Devil’s Claw –

Harpagophytum, means “hook plant” in Greek. Devil’s claw causes additive effects in many medications. It can cause changes in blood pressure as well.

Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus can not be consumed. Taking 3.5 mL of undiluted oil can be fatal.Even applying too much to the skin and absorbing large amounts is dangerous. (Use it very lightly, dilute it, or use a humidifier.) Signs of eucalyptus poisoning might include stomach pain and burning, dizziness, muscle weakness, small eye pupils, feelings of suffocation, and some others. Eucalyptus changes how many medicines break down in the liver.

Foxglove – Poisoning by this herb can cause stomach upset, small eye pupils, blurred vision, strong slow pulse, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, excessive urination, fatigue, muscle weakness and tremors, stupor, confusion, convulsions, abnormal heartbeats, and death. Long-term use of foxglove can lead to symptoms of toxicity, including visual halos, yellow-green vision, and stomach upset.

Golden Seal – This herb is a uterotonic; brain damage (kernicterus) has developed in newborn infants exposed to goldenseal. Do not use goldenseal during pregnancy or breast-feeding.

Hemlock –

Neuromuscular
blockage can occur to the point of
death if it blocks the
respiratory muscles.

Henbane – Side effects include dry mouth, red skin, constipation, overheating, reduced sweating, vision disturbances, increased heart rate, urination problems, drowsiness, restlessness, hallucinations, delirium, manic episodes, and death. Henbane is poisonous and not safe for self-medication.

Kava – In the South Pacific, kava is a popular social drink, similar to alcohol in Western societies. It is used by some to treat anxiety, restlessness, and insomnia, but like many medicines used to treat these types of issues, Kava runs the risk of being too much of a ‘downer – oversedation.’ It can make you unable to operate machinery, fatigued, and worsen depression. Large doses can also effect the liver and cause yellowing of the eyes. Also, some of the dangerous chemicals in kava can pass into breast milk and might hurt a breast-fed infant. Avoid this herb if you have Parkinson’s disease or if you will undergo or have recently undergone anaesthesia as it effects the central nervous system.

Alcohol, sedatives, and benzodiazepines interact with downers.

Licorice Root – This tasty herb, when taken in high doses, may cause tiredness, absence of a menstrual period in women, headache, water and sodium retention, and decreased sexual interest and function in men. It may also cause early delivery in pregnant women and miscarriage in early pregnancy. This root has also been seen effecting hormone levels in the body and interacts with oestrogen. It also seems to rid the body or potassium. It can also cause heart failure.

Mistletoe (European) – Can cause chills vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, and other side effects. Short-term, frequent use of European mistletoe might cause liver damage. Lowers blood pressure.

Mugwort – This herb is dangerous in large quantities. Thujone, a ketone and a monoterpene that occurs naturally in two diastereomeric forms:-α-thujone and-β-thujone is present in wormwood Thujones cause a slight high and a feeling of relaxation, which is why it is enjoyed by smokers and drinkers (as a tincture or bitters), can also cause breakdown of muscle, nightmares, seizures, dizziness, confusion, numbness of arms and legs, paralysis, and death. The chemical is also said to be responsible for absinthe’s hallucinogenic effects.

Mugwort might cause a miscarriage because it can start menstruation and also cause the uterus to contract.

Pennyroyal – Pennyroyal has been used as an antificant and can also kill pregnant mothers. Do not use this herb as a method for miscarriage. It can cause irreversible damage to the liver and kidneys, nervous system, brain, and cam cause dizziness, confusion, seizures, and death.

Peony – Peony can cause uterine contractions and is unsafe to use during pregnancy. It also slows blood clotting.

St. John’s Wort – This herb interacts with SSRIs and other types of medications for the treatment of depression. In bipolar, bipolar depression, mania, manic depression, and other related disorders, St. John’s wort can trigger a major upswing or manic episode in patients. This herb also interacts with birth control.

Wormwood – Wormwood one of the main ingredients in the alcoholic beverage, Absinthe. The latin Absinthium comes from the ancient greek word apsínthion, which some claim translates to “Undrinkable”, referencing the herb’s extreme bitter flavor. It is closely related to mugwort, which is toxic in large doses, but wormwood is even more so. The herbs also contained thujones. See Mugwort.

Valerian – This herb, especially the root, can cause oversedation.

Alcohol, sedatives, and benzodiazepines interact with downers.

Valerian can cause some side effects such as headache, excitability, uneasiness, and even insomnia in some people. A few people feel sluggish in the morning after taking valerian, especially at higher doses. It’s best not to drive or operate dangerous machinery after taking valerian.

Wintergreen – This type of mint can be dangerous in high doses. Taking wintergreen oil or large amounts of wintergreen leaf can cause ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, stomach pain, and confusion.

lonesome-bones:

To the dead who rest below,

I call to you for what you know.

Come to aid me and my sight,

And split the veil of day and night.

What lies before, ahead, of me

Is too obscured for me to see.

Bring your gifts, your bright eyed ways,

And reveal to me the coming days.

A Necromancer’s Chant by Bronwyn of @lonesome-bones . I have been using this for a while, especially when I am doing necromancy for my own future.

Opinion Time!

eclectichaote:

I just saw a curse that basically went along the lines of “make the person so unbelievably infatuated with you that they drown in their own emotions,” and I was like “… that just seems more dangerous than useful tbh.”

I don’t really care about it being a curse, that’s not the point – the point is you can’t really control how far that person may fall, or their actions after they have done so. Like, that just seems like it could end up creating you a stalker, which would end up causing you pain and problems too. Kinda defeats the purpose, while also putting you in a potentially really scary situation.

Love is a really unpredictable and volatile thing on its own, before you add magic into it.

I think that is a curse that sounds very much like it has a huge window for error. I won’t say backfire since I don’t see magick as that, its more of just a range of unexpected possibilities. I curse, a bit regularly depending on the situation but this curse seems extremely dangerous for the caster. Obsession is no joke, we can’t ever tell how someone can behave when obsessed. Some may turn out to be extremely toxic, and if you’re cursing them in the first place implies they are a toxic person.

And then if the point of the curse was to later shatter their heart so to say, that could make it even more dangerous. Some people cannot handle rejection. And an obsessive possibly stalker, person being rejected can result in some severe backlash and violence. This could really end seriously.

I recommend looking into other curses, for all of you cursing witches out there, that do not encourage putting yourself in such a dangerous position.

Casting Glamours

juniperwildwalk:

What is a glamour?

Stemming from the old Scots word, a “glamour” (always spelt with the British “ou”, as we are referring to the spell not the trait) is a kind of magickal spell or enchantment that a person casts upon an object, a person, or themselves to confuse, bewitch or obscure the senses of other observers. For instance, a pickpocket may use glamours as a means of assisting in the avoidance of detection, and a secret Witch may use a glamour to hide their spell supplies. Glamours are also one of the primary spells that the Fae Folk use to hide their presence, and also to make mischief and cause harm to intrusive or blundering humans who offend them.

Why have I never heard of this before?!

Probably because it’s not very flashy and, by its very nature, it’s centred around concealment. Glamours are very powerful, very useful spells, but they don’t involve love or money or luck or happiness and so they tend to be overlooked by most novice or self-taught Witches. They’re also quite hard to perfect, and so many more experienced Witches give up before they have mastered them.

They are simultaneously very simple spells to perform, but very difficult to perfect, as they require significant effort of Will and a lot of practice but if you achieve a true glamour it can be one of the most powerful spells in any Witch’s arsenal. It’s also worth noting, however, that glamours do not conceal things from machines. Machines like metal detectors, security cameras and proximity detectors don’t have minds, and as such they cannot be fooled by magick that affects the mind and how the brain perceives senses. They also work poorly on animals, especially cats. Do not try to fool a cat with a glamour. Dogs are often confused by glamours, but generally see through them with time, and snakes and lizards are completely immune as far as I can tell (since their minds are not concerned with things that glamours affect).

OK, but how do I cast a glamour?

The first step is, as with all spells, to decide to do it. Decide “I am going to cast a glamour”. Know it in your soul, know that what you will do is magick, it is a glamour, and that it’s purpose is to hide yourself. Glamours on yourself are generally the easiest to start with, because they are the easiest kind with which to tell when something needs improving.

Secondly, you must visualise strongly – and I mean REALLY strongly, let it consume your being – the purpose of the glamour. Fill yourself with the knowledge how how it will work, what it will do, how it will work. If you are looking for a glamour of imperception, whereby you attempt to make yourself hard to see by convincing the minds of people around you that you are utterly uninteresting and forgettable, fill yourself with that. Let to complete and utter truth of that ring through your head;

“I am forgettable, I’m not even here. You don’t remember me, I’m utterly boring, I’m just another part of the background. Everything about me is empty and dull. There is nothing here”

And similar such truths. Let your Willpower make them true, let their truth fill the world around you through the strength of your visualisation.

Thirdly, sustain it. This is the hardest step, but a glamour will only last for as long as it is sustained and remembered. If you are visualising a glamour on something that moves or changes (such as yourself) this can involve literally constant reinforcement – never ever stop thinking those reinforcing statements and pouring all your Willpower into them. For objects that are more static, for instance a chest containing spell supplies, this can simply involve a period of refreshment every evening whereby you place your hands upon it and refresh the enchantment you’ve placed upon the chest, reminding it of how completely ignorable and boring it is, reminding it that nobody will open it because nobody will care enough to try, that nobody will notice it because it’s so dull it’s not even there.

That seems REALLY hard, is there a simpler way?

The short answer is, no. This is why glamours are often quite unpopular – despite their obvious power and usefulness, the sheer effort of Will that goes into the construction of a glamour, and the amount of practice you need to get really good, can scare off a lot of Witches from truly persisting. Those who need glamours are often the only ones who are really any good at them – the best glamour-caster I have ever known developed her skill during her life as a pickpocket, when she used glamours to avoid getting caught. The simple fact that she has no criminal record attests to their efficacy! But, it took her a very long time to get that good, and most Witches simply don’t care enough to try.

However, I urge you to do so! It’s such a rewarding skill, even if only so that you can be the undisputed champion of paintball and laser tag in your friend group because nobody ever sees you in the shadows.

So there you are! The ancient, powerful, and mostly-overlooked art of glamours! I hope this helped all you lovely Witches!

– Juniper Wildwalk

Glamours are exceptionally useful and I strongly recommend learning them. 🙂

These are very fun to learn how to do. And for me (at least) a great way to practice the art of Glamour is to practice while in a mall or shopping center. I know one of my favorite glamours is envision myself becoming this massive and scary tank while walking through Walmart, so people get out of my way or move to the other side of the aisle. But an invisibility glamour can work wonders especially if you have late night classes and you need to get to your car after class and the area gets a bit sketchy after dark. It will help you go unnoticed (speaking from personal experience here).

Yes I do invisibility a lot. 🙂

What’s the one book that’s helped you the most with your craft?

Definitely the The Book of Stones, Revised Edition

I got it on sale for 25 dollars and it has so much information in it. It has scientific information on the stones, historical, where you can find them and in some cases how they are made, their spiritual qualities as described by 3 different individuals. I think its very informative and is a good way to research stones and crystals you’ve never worked with. It also tells you if a stone is toxic or not which is information I found in the witch community is often ignored or overlooked which is dangerous.

What’s your favorite recent spell you’ve written?

Oh goodness. I am not sure what you mean fully by recent but I do have a few favorites I love that I wrote in the past 6 months (recent to me lol).

My favorite is my “Lovely Like the Moon” Bath Spell.

Ingredients are simple: 1 tbsp coconut oil (or almond oil), ½ cup milk (I use 2%), 2 packets of black tea, 1 cup moon water, 4-5 Squirts of my favorite coconut and rose foaming bath, 2 drops distilled rose oil and lining the tub with clear quartz, pink crackle quartz and rose quartz.

It is not only naturally good for your skin and hair it feels amazing and is a great glamour spell to boost confidence and feel youthful and lovely.

I often pair it with a simple Yes To! face mask or mud mask or a homemade sugar scrub or oatmeal mask. I often burn some cranberry or raspberry candles too since they are my favorites.

Crystal Terminology

starborn-witch:

image

Below is a list of helpful terms to know when working with gems and minerals. It includes terminology on various crystal shapes and forms. Terms specific to mineral shapes have “(form)” next to them for ease of reference.

Abundance (form): An abundance crystal consists of one long quartz crystal with many small crystals clustered around its base. Its function is to attract wealth and abundance.

Adamantine Luster: A particularly brilliant shine as shown by a specimen such as a diamond.

Amorphous (form): Amorphous crystals, such as obsidian, have no particular shape. Energy flows rapidly through and amorphous crystal as it has no rigid internal organization.

Aura: The subtle bio-magnetic sheath that surrounds the physical body, providing a protective zone that extends for about 18 inches to 3 feet from the body and contains information about a person’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual state of being.

Aura Crystal: A crystal specimen, usually of the quartz variety, that has been coated with metal (i.e. gold, titanium) in a vacuum chamber resulting in an iridescent sheen.

Ball (form): Balls are usually shaped from a larger piece of crystal and may have planes or flaws within them. They emit energy in all directions equally.

Barnacle (form): A barnacle crystal has many small crystals covering a larger crystal.

Bridge (form): A bridge crystal grows out of another larger crystal. It assists in bridging gaps and bringing things together.

Carat: The standard measure of weight for precious stones and metals. A carat is equal to 0.007 oz (0.2g).

Channeler (form): A channeling crystal has a 7 sided facet at the front of the termination and a triangular face on the opposite side. It channels healing energy or information from higher sources.

Cleavage: The way a mineral or rock breaks along a certain plane, or in a certain direction.

Cluster (form): A cluster has many points bedded, but not necessarily fixed, into a base. The crystals may be small or large.

Companion (form): A companion crystal has two crystals entwined and partly growing in each other, or a small crystal that grows out of the main crystal.

Cross (form): A cross formation has one crystal at right angles to another, usually larger crystal.

Crystal: A naturally occurring substance whose atoms are arranged in a regular manner.

Crystal System: The systems in which crystals are grouped based on their symmetry. There are 6 crystal systems: cubic, monoclinic, triclinic, trigonal/hexagonal, orthorhombic, and tetragonal.

Diamond Window (form): Flat faces at the top of crystals are called windows. A diamond window is large and connected to the apex and the base.

Double Terminated (form): A crystal with two naturally faceted ends.

Dull Luster: A shine that reflects very little.

Earthy Luster: A non-reflective mineral luster.

Egg (form): A crystal cut in the shape of an egg.

Habit: The general shape of a mineral.

Inclusion: Any material that is trapped inside a mineral during its formation, often producing a rainbow.

Iridescence: A play of colors that looks like oil on water that occurs when light reflects off internal elements of a rock or mineral.

Layered (form): Plate-like crystals such as lepidolite are referred to as layered.

Luster: The way in which light reflects of the surface of a mineral.

Metallic Luster: A shine like that of polished metal.

Mineral: A naturally occurring solid with specific characteristics, such as a particular chemical composition and crystal shape.

Mineralogist: A scientist who studies minerals.

Mohs Scale: A scale of hardness used in classifying minerals. It runs from 1 to 10 using a series of reference minerals, and a position on the scale depends on the ability to scratch minerals rated lower.

do you think some witchy stuff requires more energy than others or does it all just depend on the person? Like tarot readings vs potion making idk, do you think it would be possible to make a list of most to least draining practices?

Yes and no if that makes sense. It does vary person to person that is for sure, some people have energy that naturally aligns with one thing more than another. Such as I myself have always found tarot extremely easy and not draining but it took me ages to get glamour spells to work, over a year in fact.

Though I do feel there are certain parts of practices that are easier to do with less energy needed. I would recommend first checking out all of my tags for ‘beginner magick’ ‘beginner witchcraft’ and ‘spoonie witch’

As for a list of ones I feel personally are beginner friendly to do here you go!

  • Meditation – very important to learn how to ground and center yourself)
  • Crystal Elixir– very beginner friendly just make sure the crystal isn’t water soluble/toxic if you want to put it in the water. if it is toxic or would melt in water place it around the jar/bowl instead
  • Tea Magick – Tea spells are wonderful fast potions that can really help you with specific things such as sleep, meditation, divination and focus depending on what you use. Just be sure to research the herbs you are using some do conflict with medicines
  • Bath Magick – Wonderful relaxing self love filled magic, think of it like a big potion you soak in. Have fun with it! Use herbs, flowers, tea, bubble bath, scents, oils, sea shells, salt and other ingredients. If you are going to use essential oils research them first! Make sure you dilute them with a carrier oil first and make sure they aren’t skin toxic/irritants
  • Sigil Work – A good favorite of a lot of spoonie witches and low energy witches because sigils are a fun creative way to make spells and get your intent out there and though still requires energy, focus and intent it is a bit more forgiving than huge rituals

Spirit House Rules

image

What are Spirit House Rules?

Simply put these are rules you put in place as a witch and spirit worker that all spirits working with you and residing around you are expected to follow and obey out of respect. They are like a contract that you have displayed out in the open for spirits to see. It is like posting the rules to the pool up for swimmers to look at, disobeying those rules may get you kicked from the pool and the same goes for your space and your House Rules. Spirits who disobey them are at risk of being asked to leave by you or other occupants of the house or even banished if need be.

Why have House Rules?

House Rules exist to protect you and other occupants of the home safe and make it clear to any spirit guests what is absolutely not allowed. Think of them as the first step of warding out those who you don’t want around, sure it may not deter spirits who are seeking to cause you trouble or harm but it can keep away those who you may just not get along with (though let it be noted House Rules are not a replacement for wards).

House Rules are a polite but authoritative way to make it clear your values as well. It is a good way to indirectly tell spirits in the area what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with. This can help prevent poor communication between you and your guests or even companions. You may use these rules to mark what areas of the house spirits are allowed to flock and where they are not welcomed, your personal ‘codes’ on behavior, who they may and may not interact with, who they may or may not take/borrow energy from etc.

What are some common House Rules?

There are quite a few common house rules that many witches or spirit workers have (of course not all have the same house rules) which are good ones to look at and take into consideration while making your own:

  • Where a spirit may NOT go (bathroom, personal bedroom, safe space, etc)
  • Who a spirit may NOT interact with (children, pets, roommate, grandparent, parent, etc)
  • Whether the spirit is allowed to touch you and/or others and the specific guidelines on this
  • If the spirit is or is not allowed to use your energy
  • Whether sexual advances are welcome or not
  • Things a spirit is NOT permitted to do (scare individuals, loom over others, harass pets, move or knock over things, etc)
  • How a spirit may interact with you and how they may NOT
  • Your needs and expectations (such as you come first with things, the spirit does not)

What are my House Rules?

As a good reference to some of you I thought it would be nice to post what my personal House Rules are currently. Note that they are sometimes flexible depending on what spirit I am working with.

WILLOW’S HOUSE RULES FOR SPIRITS AND COMPANIONS

  • You are NOT permitted into the bathroom without direct invitation
  • You are only allowed onto the bed without invitation
  • You are NOT allowed in (roommate’s name)’s or (sister)’s rooms/on their beds at all
  • You may interact with pet but only if it is positive interaction, harassing or scaring my pet on purpose is grounds for banishment
  • You may NEVER harm me, my pets or roommates, this will be taken extremely seriously
  • You may not touch or attempt sexual things (flirting, touching, seduction) to roommate or sister
  • You may only touch/flirt with me per spoken permission and on very specific grounds
  • NEVER make sexual touches or advances to me without FULL SPOKEN PERMISSION
  • ANY sort of racial slurs, sexual slurs, homophobic/biphobic/acephobic, or sexist behavior will be immediate grounds for banishment
  • You may not interact with anything burning (candles, incense, paper, etc) without spoken permission due to fire safety
  • When I or another is sleeping, unless it is an emergency, please do not disturb
  • Guests in house are to be left alone unless otherwise told via me AND the guest
  • No fighting, territorial disputes or hunting of others inside or around my home this is to be done elsewhere unless otherwise stated by me or in terms of emergency, self defense, etc
  • No making threats or insults to each other or other spirits unless otherwise told
  • Sarcasm is always welcome, but to be funny not to be mean or a bully
  • I am willing to allow you to feed off of my energy but you MUST ask first
  • Do NOT drain my energy when I am sleeping, ill or on my period unless I otherwise permit it due to these times being when even I am low on energy or uncomfortable sharing
  • I will ALWAYS put my health and comfort first, this is my home and so my rules, I will not accept abuse from any spirit towards me or any attempts at making my home life miserable or uncomfortable, you will banished without question
  • If you invite other spirits over be sure they too read and agree to these rules

All who do not obey these rules may and can be asked to leave or banished from my home!

How do I come up with my own House Rules?

Well start with what makes you uncomfortable, things that you don’t want them doing such as touching you or invading private spaces. Take into consideration those you live with and what they would want, most roommates wouldn’t want strangers in their rooms right? So take that into consideration. If you have pets or children, take their safety and needs into consideration as well. Make sure you put your mental and physical health first in all cases. It is your home, so therefore they need to follow your rules. Them being there does not make them the boss, you are the boss.

How to post House Rules for spirits?

There are several ways, I personally post a few printed or written up copies around my personal spaces such as on my bedroom door, near my window, on my wall, in the stairwell and near the front door inside. Posting it nice and big in places for them to see is always a good way, similar to posting signs and rules in public spaces.

Another method is to write it up and burn it to ash and keep the ash in jars or containers near entry points of your property such as windows and doors. Some also bury the notices around their property either whole, folded or as ash so that entering spirits may sense them. Putting up astral rules via energy work onto your wards similar to giant signs placed onto walls is also an option. Really, choose whatever is convenient for you.

In Conclusion

Keeping House Rules for when you work with spirits or invite them into your home is a good way to ensure there is no miscommunication about Do’s and Don’ts in your home. It’s a good start to your own personal protection and the protection of others in your home. Keeping House Rules posted is very important so that all passing spirits can see it. Make sure to make it clear that all that break them will not be taken lightly and will not be welcomed back to your home.

Purugly’s Spell for Intimidation and Protection (Pokemon Inspired)

“It binds its body with its tails to make itself look bigger. If it locks eyes, it will glare ceaselessly.” -Pokedex Entry

A glamour spell to protect oneself from threats and danger by making oneself appear intimidating and not worth it to approach.

You Will Need:

  • Garnet
  • Cinnamon Incense
  • Black Salt
  • Black or dark colored nail polish

Preparation:

Cleanse yourself and your area and if needed ground your energy. Set up a nice clear space where you can safely do your spell without worry of spilling anything or burning yourself with the incense. Make sure you are comfortable as well where you are practicing, do not wear long flowing sleeves to prevent fire dangers. Place your incense inside of a proper holder and your black salt around it in a circle. Take your garnet(s) and place them before you, if you are using chips or more than one then place them as it feels right for you. If desired you may play music that makes you feel powerful, focused and/or pumped up, heavy drum sounds or thunderstorm sounds can also help.

Steps:

  • Once you are set up light your incense and allow its smoke to burn throughout the spell
  • Open your nail polish as you begin the spoken part of the spell

“I am not one to mess with, I am not one to toy with, I am one to respect and fear. If you cross me and try to dominate, I will stop you with my leer. My eyes and nails are black as shadows, my heart is beating and strong. You shall not harm me, you shall not scare me, you shall respect me all day/night long.”

  • As you are saying this (or your own version of it) paint your nails of your hand. Once done with the chant and nail painting blow upon them focusing on your intent to appear intimidating like a great shadowy feline to those who try to approach you. Wave your nails a few times in the smoke of the incense.
  • Repeat process above on second hand.
  • Once both hands are painted end the spell as you see fit and rest, you deserve it.

  • Make/wear seashell or pearl jewelry.
  • Listen to music that makes you feel like you’re standing in front of the ocean.
  • When it’s windy or downpour rain, allow it to take you to the sea. Feel the raw energy. Open the window a crack if you can!

Chandelure’s Hypnotic Flame Curse (Pokemon Inspired)

“It absorbs a spirit, which it then burns. By waving the flames on its arms, it puts its foes into a hypnotic trance.”

A curse to make another’s lives go numb and things they once enjoyed to feel dull. (This curse can be broken by the caster)

You will Need:

Pendulum (preferably obsidian or a dark stone/metal)

4 black candles

2 purple candles

Burning safe plate/bowl

Target’s name written on a strip of paper (

Bowl containing any of the following: cayenne pepper, chili powder, used coffee grounds, onion skin, dried garlic, catnip, poppy seeds and/or black peppercorn

Set Up:

Set up a good space for your spell to be cast. It needs to be comfortable but safe to burn your candles without risk of burning yourself or something else. Keep water or salt near you to help prevent any flare ups (only use water if no oil is on the candles or around the candles, oil fires and water do NOT mix). Cleanse yourself and your space as you feel is proper and ground/center yourself as needed.

Set up your candles up with two black candles on the outsides and the other two blacks on the inside with the purples between the outside and inside candles. Light the candles starting with the black candles outside in every other on each side, careful of not burning yourself. For small set ups a longer match or lighter is recommended.

Once all candles are lit place the bowl in front of you with candles on either side and herbs already mixed into the bowl. Once the bowl is placed you are ready to begin the spell.

Steps:

With your pendulum in your dominant hand hang it over the herbs and sway it very carefully side as to prevent it from hitting a candle or other object. Once you have a good flow going you may begin chanting: “Right, wrong, right, wrong. You have not done me any good, you have only done me wrong. For this I shall punish you. All that you love and all that brings you joy, shall only bring you emptiness, misery and void.” Repeat the last line three times.

Once you have finished the chant carefully on your fire safe plate/bowl light the name of the target you have written on fire using one of the candles of your choosing and let it burn to ash. Mix the ashes with the herbs and toss them in the trash.

Finish the spell by cleansing yourself, the area and your pendulum. Once you have well cleansed take a good long rest.

To Break Curse:

You can state ways to break the curse during your chant if you choose or determinants for it to break automatically such as “when they feel remorse” or “when they change their attitude” or you can set it to be a specific time such as “in 3 months the curse will lift.” this is all really up to you.

shittykawaiisenpai:

NEW MOON
Sometimes referred to as the Crescent Moon — when you can see the very first sliver of light in the sky. This phase promotes new beginnings, new endeavors and new relationships. It’s a time for making positive changes, looking for fresh career opportunities and planting seeds of ideas that will be harvested later.

WAXING MOON
In this phase, the Moon appears to be growing in size, shifting from New to Full as though it’s gaining strength. This is a good time to focus on increasing things of your own — knowledge, bank accounts and relationships. It’s a time to think about pregnancy, to increase communications of all types —  business or pleasure. Deal with legal matters if you want financial gain. This phase promotes healing as well.
This is also a good time to cast spells for improving situations or for getting things going if you’ve been stagnant. When life is unchanging, it takes a little boost to amp things up a little and this phase is definitely the best time to kickstart your life. Spells that act faster during a Waxing phase of the Moon are: moving forward from depression, getting out of a rut, passing examinations and tests, finding lost objects, healing a sick animal or finding a lost pet, nurturing abundant, healthy gardens and the well-being of nature, losing weight or trying to quit smoking.

FULL MOON
The Moon’s most powerful phase, when we see her entire illuminated face. This is a time of fulfillment, activity, increased psychic ability, for perfecting ideas, getting your act together, celebrations, or renewing commitments to people or projects.  For some reason when a Full Moon falls on a Friday, these are the best days for casting love spells. If you try casting love spells during any other day, it doesn’t mean that the spell won’t work, but the results could take much longer.  There’s a lot of otherspells that benefit from being cast on a Full Moon too, for instance, protecting property or your home, adding vigor to your life, increasing self-confidence, advancing in career at work, enhancing psychic ability or clairvoyance, strengthening friendships and family bonds, performing general good luck spells.

WANING MOON
During this phase, the Moon is decreasing in size as it journeys from Full to Dark. The Waning Moon is a time of decrease, release, letting go and completion. This is an excellent time to begin a new diet or lifestyle, breaking bad habits, breaking off relationships or dealing with legal matters.
We all face some type of trouble in our lives that is not in our control. The Waning Moon is a great time to cast spells for getting rid of the black clouds and negative energies that sometimes hang over us. It’s a time when you can draw down the strength from the Universe. If you’re surrounded by difficult people and you can’t cope or if you have to tackle difficult situations head on, you can use the Moon’s power to assist you. By casting spells during this phase, you will gain the power to take control again, strengthen your weak areas, and become more assertive in your actions. This is a good time to catch spells that deal with developing inner strength and assertiveness, banishing enemies, stopping arguments, soothing unruly children, calming anxiety, getting out of tricky situations.

DARK MOON
The two or three days when the Moon is not visible in the sky at all. The Dark Moon and the New Moon are often considered the same phase, but for the purpose of this post, I’ve separated the two.
On an average calendar, the Dark Moon is usually indicated by a black circle because it actually occurs on the day it is marked as well as one day before and one day after. This is a good time for discarding things in your life that you do not want, contemplating what you have already accomplished and what you want to accomplish in the future. This is an excellent cycle to find time for yourself and an ideal time for seclusion.
This moon phase surrounds us with a lot of positive energy and can act as a catalyst for immediate change. Many transitions naturally happen around the New Moon like new jobs, births, moves, but if you need to change your life, casting spells at this time that deal with career changes, moving, traveling, increasing your cash flow, better health – would be beneficial.

DEAD MOON
Three days before the New Moon is what is known as the Dead Moon. It’s considered to be the most magical and potent of all the phases. I have read that some witches will not cast spells during this phase because some believe that people who practice “black magic” do so at this time which in turn could influence any spells or rituals that they might be performing resulting in confusion or a spell not working at all. (Sorry horrible sentence, I’ll try to fix that later)

If you ever find yourself interested in studying the moons patterns, you will probably find that your demeanor will change depending on what the Moon is doing. I experimented with this once for a few months, by keeping a diary about how I felt or what I noticed in the people around me. It was really fascinating to find that during the Dark Moon I was very irritable and absent-minded but once that phase passed, I cheered up and begin to feel a lot more grounded. Certain situations naturally occur during certain phases too. For example, the cable guy came to repair my cable on the first day of a New Moon, which has happened before and ended up being really frustrating.  Since it was happening on that day, I instinctively knew that he would do a good job and he did!  NO DRAMA!

Try to find out during which phase you were born on because this will also give you insight as to why you are the way you are. Animals are also affected by the Moon, especially during the Full Moon and can become a bit more rambunctious.

RANDOM FACT: The moon used to be worshiped in many early religions as a goddess and it is always been seen as a feminine symbol. On average, are big, beautiful moon orbits at a distance of approximately 230,855 miles from earth and takes about 28 days to complete its orbit interestingly, the same as the average amount of time between female menstrual cycles.

20 Tips to being a Safe Witch

therestlesswitch:

Altar Safety

  • When burning anything always keep a glass of water near you, unless you are working with burning oils, then keep a fire extinguisher or baking soda on hand.
  • When working with essential oils(EO), do not burn them they are highly flammable
  • Never leave anything burning unattended, be it a burn bowl, candle, incense. DON’T LEAVE IT!
  • Please remove anything flammable such as paper or string from the candle, it will ignite and you will be alarmed.
  • Make sure that what you’re burning your candle in is fire safe, metal and cast iron are good bets. Do NOT burn in a glass, if you have to put it out and dump water on it, it will explode.
  • Make sure you tie back loose hair and don’t have any floppy sleeves or necklaces to get in the way.
  • When putting out a candle it is best to use a candle snuffer and do not use water.
  • Don’t burn kitchen sage, it gives off a toxic smoke. Not something you wanna inhale.

Essential Oil Safety

  • Please, please dilute them properly. I have a chemical burn scar I can never get rid of due to undiluted cinnamon bark oil. The proper dilution is one drop per teaspoon.
  • Never ingest EO, there are some that are now generally recognized as safe by the FDA, but the quality of EO are not regulated. Who knows what a bad quality EO could do to your internal organs, not something I wanna test.
  • Essential Oils are photosensitive, meaning they deteriorate in light store them in a dark area to prevent them from spoiling.
  • DO NOT put them near on your skin and get in the sun or a tanning bed, especially citrus oils, they will blister.
  • Water will not dilute essential oils, only other oils(canola, olive, sweet almond, olive will all dilute). If you want to use them in a bath it is one drop per a teaspoon of oil.
  • Please seek medical attention if anything seems off after using EO, they seem harmless but can be very dangerous
  • Pets can be very sensitive to essential oils(particularly cats) and it is almost impossible to cover all my bases here. The sources provided below have some great resources.
  • Always go by the scientific name, German and Roman chamomile are very different products.

Kitchen Magic Safety

  • Wear shoes if you’re doing anything, I nearly lost a toe the other day cause I dropped a knife. I got lucky I was wearing boots.
  • Wear correct clothing, and tie back hair. No matter if you have a gas, electric or induction stove, I’ve caught a lab coat sleeve on fire thanks to a torch while making a creme brulee.
  • Use your knives correctly, learn about the pinch grip and use the correct knife for the job. Using a paring knife for chopping potatoes is asking for trouble. There are tons of videos online, I like the ones from Alton Brown and Jamie Oliver.
  • As a side note use sharp knives, a blunt knife will do more damage than a sharp one.
  • Don’t leave knives in the sink, someone could begin to wash dishes and cut themselves.
  • Watch the steam. Steam can give a worse burn than dry heat, open pot lids away from you and don’t stick your face and phalanges in steam.
  • Don’t leave food products unattended.
  • Use your damn pot holders, they protect you and your counters.
  • Store raw meat on the lowest shelves, and never store cooked meat on the same shelf
  • Wash your hands before, wash your hands after handling raw meats, wash your hands after.
  • Don’t leave food that is meant to be cold or hot out for more than 2 hours, this is to decrease foodborne illness.
  • When using the store turn handles in, to keep yourself from bumping them off the stove.
  • Cook meats to proper temps(there is a chart in the sources)
  • If you are using herbs be sure to use kitchen grade herbs, those that are not kitchen grade are not held up to the same purity standards and could have more pesticide residue.

Herbal Safety

  • Please be aware a lot of herbs can work against prescription medications, or should only be taken in very specific doses( St. John’s Wort I’m looking at you.) Check in with your doctor or a licensed herbalist or naturopath before ingesting herbs.

Crystal Safety

  • Identify your crystals, some are water solvent some are not and it matters
  • Some that aren’t safe in water include malachite and selenite. They have copper and if aren’t sealed they can become toxic. There is no way to know for sure if it was sealed or not keep -ite crystals dry as a good rule of thumb.
  • Some crystals fade in sunlight like rose quartz, amethyst and citrine, in order to prevent fading try cleansing them with sound, flower petals, moonlight and energy.

Alchemical Properties of Foods: Foodstuffs Classified According to Their Elemental Nature

Almonds are sacred to the gods Thoth, Hermes, and Mercury and are said to bring wisdom and prosperity by stimulating intuition and insight through the Third Eye Chakra. Magical wands are often made of almond wood. [Earth ++]

Apple, known as the Fruit of the Gods, is a very powerful source of spiritual energy that encourages balance and harmony. If cut horizontally, the apple reveals the pentagram pattern, which is considered the gateway to occult powers as well as symbol of the quintessence. The Egyptians offered apples to their highest and most powerful priests, whom they considered guardians of hidden knowledge. In the Middle Ages, sliced apples were used to foretell the future and eating them regularly was said to enable a person to live over 200 years. Modern clinical studies have proved that eating apples reduces cancer risk. [Air +++]

Apricots carry feminine spiritual energy and are used to sweeten someone’s disposition or instill romance and passion in a relationship. Extremely rich in vitamins and minerals, apricots strengthen the immune system and have more of the antioxidant carotene than any other fruit. [Air ++]

Bananas represent the futility of material possessions, and Buddha is often shown meditating under a banana tree. On the other hand, the banana’s phallic shape represents male heroic energy. [Air +]

Barley is a gentle, nurturing force that stimulates the Heart Chakra and is used to ease a person’s emotional burden by turning harsh feelings into love and warding off any negativity that originates from other people. Barley grass juice is considered an effective psychological grounding agent and physical energizer. [Earth +++]

Basil was sacred to the Greeks, and women were not allowed to pick it. The herb soothes anger and hard feelings by encouraging feelings of love and is thought to simultaneously simulate the Heart and Sacral Chakras, thereby harmonizing stressful emotions while releasing sexual energies. It strengthens the immune system and is known to kill germs. [Fire +]

Blueberries embody the esoteric principles of calm acceptance, peace, and a protected environment. For centuries, witches have eaten blueberry tarts when under psychic attack to protect themselves. [Earth ++]

Cakes are thought to be easily enchanted and can convey both positive and negative psychic energy. Because they carry spells, cakes became associated with rites of passage such as christening, birthdays, and weddings. [Earth ++]

Cashews are used in magical spells to increase income and money. In cooking, they are added to dishes to raise their energy levels. [Earth ++]

Cheese is one of the oldest human foods. In cooking, cheese is used to raise the vibrational level of meals, adding a positive or joyous energy. [Air +]

Chocolate raises emotional energy and induces ecstatic feelings of love by stimulating the Heart Chakra. That belief is the origin of the custom of giving boxes of chocolates to women to win their favor. [Fire ++]

Cucumber promotes chastity and hinders lustful behavior. Cucumber peels are said to diminish headaches if placed on the forehead and relieve the pain of arthritis when wrapped around inflamed joints. [Water ++]

Dates were used by ancient Persians to celebrate the death and resurrection of Zoroaster, a Christ figure who dates back to 500 BC. Dried dates are considered fruits of the spiritual realm and are symbolic of the eternal resurrection of the soul. To live off dates is to be free of worldly concerns, though paradoxically, such a diet is said to make one extremely potent sexually. [Air +++]

Garlic was sacred to the goddess Hecate and left at crossroads as a sacrifice to her. The pungent cloves were also used for protection against evil and to break curses and hexes, and psychic cooks rub garlic into pots and pans to remove negative influences that might contaminate food. When eaten, garlic stimulates the immune system to protect the body, although it is said to induce lustful behavior in some people. Garlic is a proven antibiotic, cholesterol reducer, blood pressure reducer, and general heart remedy. [Fire ++]

Ginger is frequently part of love spells and is used to add power to other rituals. Ginger seems to release vital energies in the body and is used to cure motion sickness, hangovers, headaches, and nausea of all types. Adding cinnamon to ginger enhances its healing properties. [Fire +++]

Grapes carry spiritual energy and increase mental fertility, opening us to meaningful dreams and visions. Eating grapes or raisins is said to increase a woman’s fertility. [Air +++]

Guava fruit encourages romantic fantasy. Eating the fruit is said to allow people temporary relief from worldly concerns. [Air ++]

Honey is synonymous with happiness and fulfillment, and it is added to food and beverages to emphasize the good mood associated with it. It is used to treat indigestion, colds, flu, and headaches. [Water +++]

Lemons were thought to encourage longevity and faithfulness. Lemon pie fortifies fidelity, and lemon slices on a stranger’s plate or under his chair guarantees his or her friendship. Lemon juice is a powerful cleaning agent and is used to wash magical implements of all types of toxicity. A cleansing tea is made from dried lemon peels. [Fire ++]

Lime refreshes the soul. It is used in purification and healing rituals. [Fire ++]

Mango is sacred to Buddha, and it is considered one of the most spiritually charged and elevating fruits. [Air +++]

Maple Syrup is associated with long life and abundance. Maple leaves are used in many love and money rituals. In general, natural syrups carry the powers of the tree or fruit from which they are derived. [Water +++]

Mint leaf has been used in healing potions and teas for thousands of years. It is used in stomach tonics, and leaves of mint were once put in milk to keep it from curdling. Mint is also said to protect travelers and attract money. Peppermint raises spiritual vibrations and is used in purification and healing rituals. It transforms negative energies into healthy influences by stimulating the Solar Plexus Chakra. [Fire ++]

Onions were worshipped in ancient Egypt for their ability to absorb impurities, and the Egyptians even swore to onions when they took oaths. American colonists hung onions over doorways to protect their families from infectious diseases, and onions are still used in exorcism rituals. Esoterically, onions stand for both physical and spiritual health and protection. Scallions and shallots are green onions with long stems and bulbous roots. Leeks are also a kind of onion. [Fire +++]

Oranges. All varieties of oranges provide purifying energy for both body and mind. In some Wiccan rituals, orange juice is drunk instead of wine, and orange peel tea is said to keep one from getting drunk or muddleheaded. Marmalade jam has the same effect. The vitamin C in citrus fruits raises the brain’s level of norepinephrine, which increases energy while reducing irritability. [Fire ++]

Pasta is a powerful accumulator of psychic energy, and food psychics believe its various shapes determine how much psychotronic energy can be projected and stored in it. The least amount of energy is carried by stringy kinds like spaghetti and fettuccini, while the most is carried by the twisted tortellini or hollow macaroni and rigatoni shapes. For psychic purposes, the stuffed pastas like cannelloni, ravioli, manicotti, and lasagna are considered breads. [Earth +++]

Peaches are a feminine symbol of love, spiritual fertility, and wishes come true. Serving peach pie to someone helps win his or her love and attention. In Asia, the peach is a symbol of virginity, and the blossoming of the peach tree is a sign of spring and youthful purity. Magic wands made of peach wood are used in exorcisms. [Air ++]

Peanuts provide the reality-based, aggressive energy associated with masculinity. [Earth ++]

Pears initiate lustful passion by stimulating the Sacral Chakra, and the fruit is associated with Venus, the goddess of love. [Air ++]

Pepper is used to break hexes and promote fidelity in family members. Within minutes of eating red peppers, the body releases gratifying, morphine-like endorphins into the blood stream. All the powdered peppers are known to break up congestion in the lungs and sinuses, relieve allergies, and increase metabolism. [Fire +++]

Pineapple; juice is drunk to ensure chastity; eating the fruit brings luck and prosperity. Pineapples are traditionally used in spells for the protection of a person’s possessions, including one’s spouse and children. [Fire ++]

Raspberries induce stamina and vigor, and at one time, the leaves were carried by pregnant women to help them through childbirth. The tea acts as a blood tonic to treat anemia and stop diarrhea. [Earth ++]

Strawberries are sacred to the Scandinavian fertility god, Freyr, and are served to promote physical love and zesty romance. Strawberry leaves are placed on serving plates or carried for good luck. The dried leaves make a mildly laxative tea. [Earth ++]

Sugar is used to dispel evil influences and preserve or enhance the qualities of many foods. Only raw cane sugar is used in making spells, since refined sugar has lost much of its magical power. Because of its protective signature, sugar embodies the feminine characteristics of the Water Element. [Water ++]

Tomatoes were called Love Apples when they were first introduced into Europe from the New World and were used to solicit romantic attention. Europeans also placed them on windowsills to repel negative energies. [Water ++]

Vanilla is used to increase the midrange or “loving” vibrations both in cooking and in aromatic sachets and has been called the “Middle C” of spices. At one time, just carrying a vanilla bean was thought to tune one’s consciousness to a higher level. [Air ++]

stop telling people ouija boards summon demons 2k18

But they can summon demons… that’s why novices should never try them alone. HAVE YOU EVER WATCH A MOVIE ABOUT SPIRITS??? THEY ALWAYS HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS BUT DONT KNOW WHAT THEYRE DOIND AND NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU ARE BEING RAPED BY A DEMON AGAINST THE CELLAR

@theouijagirl

I mean I hate to break it to you @alessandra-ives but… movies aren’t real. The people in them are not the actual people but are actors, pretending to be those people. They’re reading of a script. The demons are special effects created by computers, and sometimes Doug Jones in a monster suit. Movies are not documentaries. They’re not real life. I’m sorry to totally shatter your entire world by this news.

No shit. But still don’t play with ouijas, you really don’t know what you are inviting in when you use it without some knowledge of the thing. It’s as basic as that. Don’t go around telling people that things don’t do things that said things can actually do.

Oh my good gods lmao

Anyways, anyone who spreads the false information that they do is getting blocked because I don’t have the shells to argue on this anymore.

If you wanna learn more about Ouija boards shout out to the @theouijagirl who has a shit ton of information on Ouija boards and even a some fae knowledge!

@alessandra-ives you realize you’re saying this on a post meant for people who know what they’re doing, and are trying to stop misinformation from being spread. You’re kind of looking like an idiot. Don’t go around telling people about things you have no idea about to the people who actually know. Ouija boards don’t summon demons. Ouija boards don’t invite anything in. It’s as basic as that. Moron.

Ouija boards don’t summon demons. They don’t need a piece of cardboard to enter your home. If you are indeed talking to a demon that’s because it was already around you. Using a Ouija board is like calling a public phone and seeing who answers, only the phone is in your immediate area. Nothing can “come through” the board since it’s right next to you moving the planchette. How hard is this to understand? Use it wisely yes, as in not when you are not in the best mental state, in a very negative entity heavy area, etc. And even in those cases you can still shield a way around those issues at times. It was created to be a toy for crying out loud! Sure it can be used as a tool too, but still not dangerous. Be polite, that’s pretty much the ONLY rule.

skincare magic

easy magic during your skincare routine: cleansing, grounding, purifying, blessing with abundance.

cleansing: when using your cleanser to first wash your face, imagine all the dirt and grime leftover in your energy gliding off you. visualize the cleanser wiping your slate clean, making what was once foggy clear.

🌸 add pink salt to your cleanser (once a week) for an exfoliant. *edit: or use finer salt, oatmeal or citrus peels for a softer and less abrasive scrub. do your research and figure out what works with your skin! visualize the salt purifying and smoothing over the rough edges in your life. add rose petals or lavender for gentle exfoliant and aroma, visualize love energy pouring into your aura, taking over all low-vibrations and amplifying them with love.

masking : use a clay mask after cleansing (2-3x times a week). clay is of the earth, and so by adding a mixture of water/oils/clay to your face you are restoring earth energy to yourself. visualize the clay activating the roots within you, encouraging them to grow and stretch deeper into the earth. continue to visualize until it’s time to wash the mask off.

🌿 fun oil combos to add to your mask: rosehip/lavender (soothing acne scar treatment), tea tree/apple cider vinegar both diluted with water (intensive acne treatment), lavender/mint tea brewed water (soothing and revitalizing).

toning: after cleansing, use a toner to restore pH balance of skin. use witch hazel, apple cider vinegar diluted in water, or rosewater after cleansing. spray onto cotton ball and lightly tap across face. toners are purifying and protective. visualize a strong protective energy field growing around you, imagine yourself becoming more secure and confident. you are safe, you are protected.

moisturizing: use a natural carrier oil to finish the routine, like grapeseed oil (all skin types, oily and acne especially) or avocado (deep moisture). all skin types benefit from carrier oils because they effectively manage the amount of oil your skin produces and restore damaged skin cells. as you rub a dime size portion of carrier oil into your skin, visualize yourself watering the seeds of your intentions. visualize your intentions coming to fruition, gradually and steadily. as you moisturize your skin, affirm that you are fertile ground for all your intentions to manifest.

I practice natural skincare and write about my DIYs here [x].

♡ ENERGY WORK

GROUNDING

simple visualization exercise for releasing excess or negative energy through imagination of nature surrounding you and recharging you with new energies. can be visualized with roots that grow from your body into the earth which serve as an energy channel between you and nature. concentrate on the feeling of the energy transfers, really feel them. practice this once a day.

CENTERING — meditative visualization for centering oneself and gathering lost energy bits that are detached from you, eventually after feeling extreme emotions or performing magick. find and feel your inner center. become aware of your magical existence. can also be visualized with space: planets and stars that revolve around you, the sun, the center of your own galaxy. grounding before centering is recommended.

SHIELDING
— strong visualization practice for protecting your energies from draining people and their negative energies. good for empaths. can be visualized through all kind of imaginary shields. the most important thing is that in your imagination you are entirely coated with this shield, no matter if you imagine a bright reflecting light around you, or other protecting elements. no cracks, no splits, you need to be completely shielded. practice this daily and keep it up forever.

CLEANSING — energy removing practice for clearing unwanted
negative energies or spirits from an object or space by doing a small
ritual such as visualization, burning incense, using effective crystals
or chanting cleansing mantras, etc. this type of energy work is perfect
for making a place or an item spiritually new again.

ENERGY BALLS
— physical and mental practice for visualizing a glowing white energy ball (or any other form of visual energy) between the palm of your hands. rub your hands together and concentrate on the friction and warmth and also on the energies which flow from your arms into your slowly forming and growing energy ball. if you feel the distance between your hands is just right and the energy ball is completed give it a last strong input of energy to seal it.

PROGRAMMING

once you’re really comfortable with making an energy ball, you can also program it with an intent. start with deciding on an intent (example: joy) and really fill your energy ball with these feelings (example: joy, happiness, delight, pleasure, fun, cheer and laughter) by literally trying to feel those things as you do it. also, imagine your white energy ball changes its color; use the color you connect the most to this feeling/intent (example: joy – yellow/else).

CHARGING — energy work practice for infusing an object (such as a crystal, water, or other things) with personal or external energies, like a certain intent. this can be achieved either through forming and programming an energy ball and willing it into the object by visualizing and/or embracing it with your hands; or it can be done by simply visualizing that the object is surrounded by bright energetic light (eventually take a color that matches your intent here as well) and will your intent into the object directly. keep up your imagination of the charging until you feel it’s complete.

SENDING ENERGY — energy work practice for sending programmed energy to someone. create and energy ball and program it with your intent (example: i want my friend to be more happy again). use the person or a representation of the person (like a picture) and visualize your energy ball forming a connection to the desired target and then, shooting straight into the person like a laser beam. as soon as the visualized energy has left your hands completely, your friend is charged with the intent.

Spiritual Abuse Red-Flags

Spirit work is such a fulfilling practice. And yet, as rewarding as it is, it can also be incredibly harmful. We are used to seeing warning posts about entities that do jarringly obvious terrible things. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking this is the only sort of danger that might come from spirit work as a practice. However, emotional/ psychological abuse is also (unfortunately) common and can be deeply damaging.

This is a list of some red-flags to look out for when working with an entity.

1. They tell you power/ success can only be achieved through following them. They reject/ mock/ belittle all other spiritual paths and proclaim their way to be The One True Way.

2. They isolate you and block you from communicating with other entities and/ or people. They might say that “your path is a lonely one”. “You only need them.” “Your relationship must remain a secret.” “They are only doing it for your own good.”

3. They discourage you from looking after your mental health, physical health, emotional, and social well-being. They might say that “if you use medications your powers will wane.” Or that “having a social life will distract you from your spiritual path.”

4. They do things without your consent, over and over again, regardless of the impact it has on your health and emotional well-being. Discussions on boundaries are ignored.

5. They nurture feelings of codependency and paranoia. They will tell you “you only need them” while also belittling all outside sources. They might discourage critical thinking, safe discernment practices, and healthy interactions with other members of the spiritual community.

6. They get angry if you question them. They punish you for attempting to better understand yourself or your own spiritual practice.

7. They claim that your spirituality and intrinsic fulfillment both hinge on working with them.

8. They claim only they can give you what you truly want, or they offer things that sound “too good to be true”.

9. Interacting with them consistently makes you feel sick, tired, emotionally and physically drained, afraid, etc.

10. You notice yourself losing grip of your “real life” as they continue to push you to delve deeper into the occult.

11. They encourage unsafe spirit work practices

12. They want you to enter into a contract or to devote yourself without discussion. They also want you to do this very quickly.

13. They place unreasonable boundaries and expectations on your relationship.

14. They gaslight you and/ or do not hold their end of a bargain/ contract.

15. They threaten your safety and well-being or the safety and well-being of your loved ones.

To finish this post, I would like to remind everyone that spirituality should not make you feel broken and miserable. It might be challenging at times, yes, but if it does not bring you happiness and fulfilment at the end of the day, then please take some time to think about your own spirituality. Additionally, if you have been or are currently in a spiritual relationship that checks off many of these red flags…. it is not your fault.

What Is Tech Magic? [Updated]

After getting more into the tumblr witchcraft scene, I’ve learned a LOT, and found some tech magic resources to help y’all so it’s time for an update of my previous What Is Tech Magic? post, now featuring how to actually do things! It’s gonna be long so here’s a friendly cut

What Is Tech Magic?

Tech magic(also known as techno magic by some) is magic using technology such as computers, phones, tablets, etc. It can be anything from a spell written into code to a sigil as your wallpaper to a ward using your WiFi router.

I personally started with tech magic for 2 reasons:

1. I love technology and have grown up using it

2. It’s really easy to keep hidden in ways both magical and mundane

Some basic, and extremely common, forms of tech magic that you may already be doing include:

  • Online BoS, grimoire, whatever you refer to you ~magical book thing~ as
  • Emoji spells
  • ”Reblog to get money” type posts- A lot of people don’t realize it, but these are quite magical! We have the intent(money, luck, etc) and the energy(everyone who reblogs it adds their belief or hope, charging it)

How Can I Use Technology In My Craft?

Actually using technology for witchcraft isn’t all that difficult, but can be weird for traditional magic users, so here’s a quick “Getting Started Guide”:

  1. Choose a piece of technology to use – while this step isn’t necessary, getting used to one object’s energy will help when starting out. I recommend something you already use a lot, such as your phone!
  2. Feel its energy – Just sit and hold it(or touch it if it’s too big to hold) and let its energy flow through you and yours through it.
  3. Practice manipulating it’s energy like you would with anything else, pull it in, push it out, etc.
  4. Find a specific spell you want to use! If you are a closeted witch maybe try a hiding spell or something similar!
  5. Do it!!! Do the spell!
  6. Cleanse your electronics!!!! Like anything else, they can get bad energy, so make sure you cleanse them regularly!
  7. Connect to more technology! I like streetlights personally, they have a strange energy.

Some Cleansing Tips

  • Bless/enchant your charger to cleanse while charging
  • Any normal cleansing method, smoke (don’t burn it!! Also idk about how smoke might affect the inner workings), Selenite, manually, etc. This seems like it should be obvious but Don’t Use Water My Dudes
  • A charmed background to auto cleanse!
  • Candle apps

Some other random tips

  • Putting your phone’s background to spells/charms/sigils is amazing. I once had a thing for “I find cool stuff at the thrift store” and immediately found a signed Fallout Boy poster. I live in a city with like maybe 50000 people? It was a salvation army too like that was high quality shit
  • Cocoppa? I think is the name? Is an Android app that will change the icons for Apps so do with that info what you will
  • Tech magic is just as valid as any other form and can be incorporated with other types!!!
  • Tech magic isn’t just phones! Computers, TV’s, anything electronic basically can be used!
  • Learning to code can add some boppin’ things to your craft that I don’t want to go into right now

Some Tech Magic Posts

I couldn’t find any tech magic focused blogs 😦 if you know of one let me know and I’ll keep a list!!!

As always, if you have questions or suggestions just ask!

Witching When You Need It

Coffee Shops

Not everyone has a witch kit to go, or they’re in the process of making one and need small supplies to add to it! Coffee shops are one of my favorite places to go for portable stuff, or if I left my witch kit at home and really need a boost.

Most coffee shops will have several ingredients you can get for free, or for a nominal price, especially if you regularly go there:

Below are some ingredients and some correspondences. Just some inspiration, but use what works for you.

Coffee

  • Grounds can be used for divination, much like tea leaves
  • Some people read the swirls that appear when pouring in milk.
  • Stores will sometimes give used grounds to use in your garden.
  • Invigoration and/boosting
  • Cleansing
  • Some people use for hex breaking, but caffeine also restrict blood vessels, so could conceivably be used for casing hexes too

Tea

  • A lot of people forget that you don’t just have to drink tea, they’re bundles of herbs, so look at herbal correspondences you may find!
  • Chamomile, green, white, Black, oolong, roobos, citrus, jasmine, Masala Chai (usually has black tea, cinnamon, clove and cardamom, but varies by brand), Earl Grey (bergamot and black tea) all can be used for their herbal correspondences.
  • Divination with tasseography!

Cinnamon

  • Usually in a shaker bottle, so keep that in mind.
  • Associations with sun and fire
  • Psychic boost for divination
  • Spirit communication
  • Blessing and healing
  • Protection
  • Love magic
  • Heating things up

Honey

  • Make a honey jar spell
  • Attraction
  • Glamour magic
  • Achieving goals/manifestation
  • Offerings

Cream

  • Tons of folklore about cream, read up and see if anything fits for you
  • Offerings
  • Divination (see coffee)

Rock sugar/white sugar

  • Love magic
  • Glamour
  • Attraction
  • Prosperity
  • Multiplying
  • Smoothing things over
  • Making other receptive

Now, if the shop also has food, usually they can be depended on to have a few more ingredients

Pepper

  • Banishing
  • Binding
  • Curse work, hexing, jinxing
  • Cleansing
  • Protection
  • Grounding

Salt

  • Cleansing
  • Grounding
  • Protection
  • Water connection if sea salt
  • Preservation

Lemon Wedges

  • Love magic
  • Representative of the Sun
  • Connects to water and lunar energy (idk, they seem to conflict but you get mixed messages)
  • Purification
  • Curse work, hexing and jinxing
  • Natural astringent and antibacterial

So there you go! Some pretty common ingredients you can grab in a pinch, and the benefit is that most of them are served at all major coffee chains, and even a lot of small ones. Good luck out there!

🦇Cheers, Barberwitch

Moon Bathing

After a rough day, especially after an energy draining day at work, I like to take a moon bath. While it’s not actually outside or the moon literally glowing on me, the power is in the intention and visualization.

After a rough day, take a shower or bath. To have dim lighting, I keep the lights off and light some candles to give a soft glow in the bathroom. As I’m bathing, I visualize the water glowing with moonlight, and it’s cleansing all negative energies that have attached to me throughout the day. When I’m done and watch the water go down the drain, I am watching all of the bad energy leaving me for good, and I feel myself relaxed, calm, and rejuvenated.

I have a question. When I find spells online, how will I know if the spell is legit or not? I mostly look for spells online since idk how to create my own spells

sylvaetria:

If it’s realistic or not. If it has the basic requirements that go into a spell, it should be fine. But if you see something like “spell to turn you into a vampire!!!” “teleportation spell!!!” “spell to make your eyes blue!!!”, then that’s BS.

It can be difficult at times to differ spells that are illegitimate to spells that are actually realistic, so if it’s too difficult to tell, just try the spell and see if it works.

My rule of thumb on this is three things:

  1. Does it have realistic goals/expectations?
  2. Is it dangerous/risky to do the spell? (is it asking unsafe things of you such as ingesting poisonous plants, burning toxic wood, ingesting things that shouldn’t be ingested ie essential oils, etc)
  3. Does its correspondences add up?

If it checks out on all three of these then I say give it a go and see if it works for you. If any of these three sound iffy when compared to the spell, its not worth you time to do it, its either fake or very ill-researched.

Basic guide to how to banish an entity

wolfofantimonyoccultism:

Introduction:

Learning how to banish an entity is a very important skill to know in case you come across an entity that you want to send out of your space, and is a good way to protect yourself from spiritual entities that may come to try to do harm to you. There are many ways to go about banishing an entity, and in this post I will be going over a couple of them. I will also be giving tips that may be helpful. This is not an extensive guide by any means, but it’s definitely a stepping stone to understanding the processes that coincide with the banishment of entities.

Protecting yourself:

Protecting yourself is very important especially when you feel a presence that should not be in your space. Through the act of putting up shields you will help protect you’re so against them by putting up a wall of energy between the two of you, and by putting up wards anything that’s already on the inside out. This will give you time to come back to yourself, so that you can focus on what you should do next in order to deal with this entity. These shields, and wards do not have to be elaborate, and should be something you can call upon quickly when your safety is in question from spiritual forces. Practices like casting a circle, or the psychic bubble of light are very good for this, and will go through the process of keeping the entity at bay, while you can focus on what to do next. A simple way to put up a shield is to simply focus your energy around you, by visualizing it flowing off of your body much like mist, or light well thinking that you are protected, this will send your energy out from yourself forming a shield around your body through the power of your intention.

Learning more about the entity:

Learning more about the entity can teach you a lot about its reasons for wanting to hang around you in the first place, and will also help you decide if this entity is malevolent in any way towards you, or is just an entity that is naturally there, and not aggressive. Knowledge is power, and by you locking onto some of its key features such as its spiritual appearance, and it’s personality along with any other information you can gather from it, you will be able to interact with it more effectively. Knowing what you are dealing with before you deal with it can help the banishing process go more smoothly by allowing you to have the upper hand on it by knowing your enemy, or can help you realize that you don’t need your guard up around this entity, and can let it be, or ask it to leave.

Talking it out, and asking it to leave:

If the entity isn’t immediately aggressive you could always go through the process of talking to the entity to figure out why they are hanging around. They may just be passing through and not know that they are trespassing on your space, and you may be able to go through the simple process of asking them to leave. All you would really need to do in order to do this is to enter a meditative state, so that you would be able to hear, and recognize their communication with you, then you would just have to have a normal conversation with the entity. In this conversation you should figure out what their purpose for being in that space is, and see if you guys cannot come to a civil agreement. You may be able to ask it to leave, or it may just be allowed to hang around if it is not causing problems, but that’s all that really depends on the conversation that you guys have. If you cannot communicate with spiritual entities psychically you can always go through the process of using a divination process to divine their answers.

Demanding that it leaves:

If negotiations fail, and you have gone through the process of talking to it, or you feel that it will not listen to you, then it is time to demand it to leave. Through the power of your will, intention, and assertiveness you can force the entity out of your space by demanding out loud that at leaves. This intention will send your energy to force the entity out of your space. You can also go through the process of using there name in your demands in order to connect your will to it targeting it with your energy, if you do not have its name you can always go through the process of making one up for it. By first telling the entity that it’s name is this, and then using that name in your demands to tell it to leave. During this entire process you should be strong, and assertive, and should not waver under the entity in any regards in order not to give it power, and to put your intention through. If done correctly the entity should be forced from the space from your sheer energy, and willpower.

Forcing it out with energy:

You can also go through the process of using a more energetic method by visualizing your energy as fire, or light flowing to the entity blasting it with all that you have, by focusing on this vision in your mind’s eye, while projecting your energy forward will send it out in order to manifest your desire of sending the entity out of your space. This is a much better method if you feel that you are better with visualization, and energy work, and will allow you to enter a more trance-like state, while projecting your energy at the entity.

Forcing it out with items:

Certain items have banishing metaphysical properties that can be quite helpful in sending entities out of your space. These items can be natural such as herbs, and stones, or can be more man made things such as sigil, tailsman and amulets. By bringing these objects into the proximity of the entity with the intention of forcing them out you will begin to use them. This is a good way to go to the process of banishing the entity from your space with the incorporation of other objects. You could even go through the process of hard binding the entity to an object, then getting rid of the object with the entity bound to it. This will allow the entity to be bound to something, so that that something can be gotten rid of more easily.

Here is a list of some items that can help in the banishment of entities:

  • Holy water
  • War water
  • Holy books
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Garlic
  • Dragon’s blood
  • Bloodstone
  • Black Salt
  • Salt
  • Smoky Quartz
  • Obsidian
  • Black pepper
  • Cloves
  • Jet
  • Sigil of banishment

Asking for help:

You can also go through the process of asking another practitioner for help in banishing the entity from your space, especially if you do not believe that you can handle it yourself. If you do not know any other practitioners you could always go through the process of asking a deity, or deities, or your spirit guides, or other higher power to banish the entity for you, or at least help you in the process of banishing the entity. This can help you out greatly, especially if you are not used to banishing entities, and want some extra help.

Other methods you could try for banishing entities:

  • Drawing the earth banishment pentagram in the air.
  • lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram
  • Gnostic pentagram ritual
  • Violet Flame
  • Sweeping to the east with a broom while having the intention that the entity leaves in your head.

Cleansing the area:

After the entity is all good in banished it is a good idea to go through the process of cleansing the area where they were at. This will relieve that space from their energies, and will get rid of any negative feelings, or residual energies that the entity had left there. This can be simply done through any cleansing method such as burning herbs, placing crystals in the space , clap cleansing, or any other cleansing method that you are aware of.

Protection from Curses

Decoys

(a decoy acts as a “substitute” for you, which the curse will be redirected to instead of harming you; the decoy can then be cleansed or destroyed to remove the curse from it; sometimes you don’t get a choice and the decoy gets destroyed, and you have to make a new one if you still desire its protection)

there is a certain level of nihilism in witchcraft that i wish i could impart to every witch, which is that nothing at all matters, it doesnt matter if you don’t have all the exact spell ingredients, nothing in the grand scheme of anything matters so do whatever the fuck you like. you are the head of your personal beliefs, you need to take your own agency, you don’t need to ask some other witch’s permission to swap out ingredients or do something a little differently

But why do this at all if you’re not going to at least TRY to follow the ingredients? Things are used for a reason?

hello! things are used for a reason, but i hope you’ll let me make an analogy. witchcraft, spells, they’re a lot like cooking,. hang with me a sec

there are like, a hundred ways to make a chocolate cake. does it matter in the grand scheme of things if you use bittersweet chocolate instead of semisweet, or dark chocolate instead of milk, or even white chocolate? i’ve done 4/5 of those, and i can tell you, nope. it’s still a chocolate cake. your result is the same gist of it, maybe the person eating it can tell your didn’t use their recipe, but no one would argue that it isn’t actually a chocolate cake upon eating it. and it doesn’t just stop there, there are even more ways to alter a chocolate cake, even on a more fundamental level. you can use a box mix or from scratch, use bread flour or cake flour, you can make it gluten free or vegan. you can even use carob (tastes just like chocolate) instead of chocolate and an unsuspecting eater will still think it’s chocolate cake. it’s absolutely mad.

but everything in a cake is there for a reason, as you point out, things are used for a reason. yes! flour is the base and the butter and milk and oil for moisture and the eggs to bind it while it bakes, sugar to make it sweet, salt and vanilla and chocolate for flavor, baking powder/soda to help it rise and balance acidity levels, and baked at 375f for 40 min. it’s fairly standard, and yet nearly all these ingredients can be replaced (see above paragraph) and it’ll still be a chocolate cake, maybe chocolate cake with a twist.  i’ve made chocolate cake with ground almonds instead of flour, worked just fine.

and metaphor goes on even longer, obviously if you put like a sock in the cake and make it from garbage and tuna it will no longer be considered a chocolate cake, it’s tuna a la gross. if you really want to get into the philosophical “what makes this cake a chocolate cake” i recommend reading plato’s theory of forms where he basically says “what makes a chair a chair? three legs and no-back is a stool, but if it’s four legs and a back? then how is a dog not a chair?” that’s a joke he doesnt say it exactly like that and really makes you consider how you define things verbally vs your fundamental understanding of them.

and also, no one cares what you make your cakes out of. yeah some nut at the garden party may throw a fit that eww how dare you serve vegan chocolate cake but it’s your cake and what does susan’s opinion even matter? she’s not the leader of cakes. no one is, it’s just a cake.

tl;dr it doesnt matter that there are a hundred ways to make a chocolate cake, all of them work. they may taste a little different but it still functions as a cake

so there is variation, but it’s not set in stone. a spell may call for sage to cleanse but i may choose to use lemon instead. or i might forgo cleansing entirely, because my craft doesn’t call for it, the veritable gluten-free chocolate cake of magic

K yeah but like… Magic don’t work like that hun.

why not? how does magic work then?

Actually, magic works exactly fucking like that.

literally one of my favorite posts to date

“Whats it like hearing spirits!?”

I get this question very commonly. People wondering what sage advice they give or great tales they share.

Well, let me offer up this story for you.

I’m standing bored at work not doing much and staring into oblivion. I feel a spirit brush up behind me and in a deep serious voice whispers “cheese wheels”. That was several days ago and I still have no idea why they said that. But that is basically what hearing spirits is like.
